A Little R&R: Lincoln AC 225 Repaired & Refurbished

Was given a 225 Lincoln welder and the selector was broken. Just bought it and the handle for $85.00. The handle was gone and the spindle was damaged too. Next opportunity I'll replace the selector and see how it goes. Free is good but it does cost to repair sometimes. I like your paint job!

I have that exact welder I inherited from my dad. The older ones had the white selector switch - you don't see those around much any more. He taught me to weld on it when I was 13, that's about 50 years ago. The shaft was broken during a move, but airgas had the parts. Excellent job on the restoration, I need to follow your lead. Like to pass it on to my son one day.

This video warmed my heart! I was a certified welder for over 40 years, and it all started with one of these back in ‘78! Although all my years in the trade were using DC welders, I’ve always had a soft spot for the tombstones! My home shop is stick/TIG & mig equipped, but when I retired in 2020 I bought a new tombstone as kind of a memorial to the comfortable living that all started with one of these! Spoiler alert: I use it more than my other machines by a long shot! She’s ready to go with the flick of the switch! No gas cylinders to worry about refilling or any of that crap! Recently I learned about ESAB 6013’s, they have green (yes, green!) flux but burn so much better than any other brand of 6013 I’ve ever used! None of the issues with slag entrapment and blowouts that plague other brands! Very good restoration! I hope by now you’ve painted that sweet cart you made! Well done Sir, well done!

Owned one for 40 years now.....I always change amperage with the switch off, and respect the duty cycle.....20 percent as I recall, except for the 75 amp tap, which is marked with the circle...that’s 100 percent. For your carbon arc torches......

My grandpa has this exact welder and that’s the machine I learned to weld with. It’s over 40 years old but it can still lay down a nice bead! Great video!

The contacts looked good when you opened it for as old as it is.i have one 35 yrs old I opened today just to check the contacts cause I have a little trouble with start up and sticking but mine looked as good as yours or better.guess I just need to clean the stinger once in a while.

Scored one of these from my boss, seems to be in working order but haven't gotten a chance to spark an arc yet.

Really like the setup with the casters, now go throw a few coats of paint on it so it looks as good as the welder does now looks awesome👍

I bought a busted Lincoln 225 that's 60 something years old fixed it up and I haven't had the chance to repaint it yet, but it'll last 60 more years without service once I repaint it .... These are truly well built and bullet proof machines

I just looked at yours again and at the literature on the front and it’s exactly the same as mine but I forgot to look at the date code on mine but I do remember it was about 1985 at Central Hardware and it was the only one they had and the shelve model to boot and they gave it to me $150 with no warranty cause being the shelve model.still looks new and all the switch and dial are both still hard to move.i used a small wire brush on the contacts today but didn’t really need it.i didn’t hardly use it the first 20 yrs then came all the car shows on tv and I learned how to weld,amazing now I have 3 of them and I started on brazing self taught and I love welding.you did a great job on yours
