In this video I talk about how I made my recreation of The Velvet Underground song 'Sister Ray' using a Vox Continental, and that in doing so, I accidentally found out that I was playing the wrong organ altogether!
This video will be the first in a series of videos related to the Vox Continental Organ - make sure you're subscribed and don't miss them as they come!

Very interesting! And BTW, I meant to congratulate you last week on the excellent Pt III of your Sterling/VU documentary (which could also accurately be written as "sterling VU documentary"). What a great conclusion to a stunning documentary! The immense research, creative use of archival footage, and tight and engaging script were all excellent, and I especially appreciated your audio-visual re-creation of Sterl's guitar parts. Even as a VU obsessive (for far longer than I want to admit), because of the often poor recording quality of the VU (sometimes combined with Lou's egotistical mixes), it often was hard to pick out and thoroughly appreciate Sterling's parts. But now I can hear them! As is all your VU content, it's a real gift you're giving Velvets fans. Also, I love your "Surreal" single, and may have missed it somewhere, but is there a new album coming? I'll definitely buy a digital version or CD if/when the opportunity arises! P.S. You've solved many VU mysteries, so I have a question that I've never seen definitely answered, but I bet you know: Was the guitar solo on "I'm Set Free" played by Lou or Sterling? I always assumed the latter based on the album version, but the live Matrix Tapes version seems to be Lou playing it, based on the rhythm guitar sound and stereo separation.

It would be cool if you could get an interview with Cale. I dont know if he would want to answer questions like this, or even remember. But i did message him on facebook one time and he did read it (or perhaps someone who runs it, but id guess its him), though he didnt respond. But i dont think its too hard to get ahold of him. It was kind of a weird question so dont blame him lol. I was glad he even read it. Thank you for the info though, i always assumed it was Vox cont. Sister Ray has a lot of great fuzz moments. Ive always liked that 60s fuzz kind of sound. On an organ, or on guitar like "I Cant Get No Satisfaction".

@@natetheannihilnater1886 I have tried to reach him a few times, but unfortunately to no avail. The doors have (unfairly) got a lot more coverage than TVU so I'm not sure if there's anything for you could add or not but hearing your little doors cover at the end was very satisfying, you're absolutely legend at recreating 60's rock. But if you ever do have something you feel like saying about the doors I'm sure we'd love to hear it as well!

I agree 100%! Yes I've done a few Doors covers which will appear over the next couple of weeks, but they're less a showcase for The Doors, and more for the Vox Continental. I'm really glad you've been enjoying my recreations so far - and hope you enjoy what's to come!

Interesting. Any reason you bought the full physical organs over things like a VST? That looks so large and bulky in the modern age! I find the VSTs sound quite good.

@@commonbirdsband Some VST's do come very close in terms of sound, but they lack any kind of physical playing experience, and the difference in sound is definitely noticeable to the trained ear - the originals are real, and sound like it!
