I was thinking $50 and would still think it's pricey but maybe worth it. For 175, I might just install a locking nut like the Floyds. Yeah, I know, the whole point is that this "nut buster" thing won't require mods, but if the issue is bothering so much and the solution is so good, just do it like that and save money.

It's a cool gadget, but *I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS $175!!!* It's just over-priced, man. You can get an entire Floyd Rose bridge and nut setup for that price. I'm very disappointed in the price gouging. It shouldn't cost any more than a D-Tuna or an intonation key.

Before installing the nutbuster you followed a specific pattern of trem bends then chord strums, without using the trem bar to help reset the tuning. However after you installed the nutbuster you repeatedly shook the term bar after each phrase, which we know helps reset tuning. It would have been a much more scientific test had you followed the exact same procedure before and after fitting the nutbuster gadget. Your testing is usually much more ‘consistent’ and fair than this appeared to be. I’m sure you didn’t deliberately try to influence the results, but in the case you certainly didn’t apply the same test methods, so it’s impossible to know if the result was accurate.
@leonardodufloth9309
@leonardodufloth9309 4 года назад
Yep, every Floyd Rose owner knows that tuning issues with floating trems is the bridge not properly returning to position and its very evident on up bends so a down bend after an upend usually helps it get back in position flush with the body. I don't know if Darrell was doing it consciously or not but it definitely makes this particular test a little sketchy.
@DarrellBraunGuitar
@DarrellBraunGuitar 4 года назад
Hi, If you watch closely you notice that when demonstrating the "bending up" section I never "reset" the trem by bending it downwards - only upwards which does NOT reset the trem - and tuning was solid. Also, most of the "soloing" section I don't reset the trem after bending upwards :)

@OutstandingBill1

The bend up tests at 3:25 were where we first saw the unmodified go out of tune. The bar stays back, so there was no downward flutter for the unmodified, but the bar is moved forward and there is some downward flutter for the modified in the test that starts at around 7:30. However, at 7:40 Darrell seems to show that the guitar is in tune before he does the flutter. So we do have scientific proof :)

Darrell, nut setup has a lot to do with staying in tune, meaning, break angle (less is more) polishing the channels and lubrication. Might want to try to setup the nut, and do an A.B.C. comparison ( no nut setup, nut setup and lubricated, floating locking nut )

How to improve tuning? get rid off the headstock and get a headless.
@JunkfoodZombieGuns
@JunkfoodZombieGuns 4 года назад
Yeah, true. But then you have a really ugly, nerdy looking guitar, which most people aren't going to want. That being said, the device in the video is pretty damn expensive.

Forget that, if I want a headless guitar I’ll just get a Gibson.

@@JunkfoodZombieGuns Part of me disagree, another one agrees. I think headless guitars _can_ look decent, but most makers somehow don't understand that they have to adjust proportions when they cut off a big chunk of the neck. I never understood why the advantages of headless were never really combined with a headstock that just serves as an anchor point for strings. The Steinbergers sceptre kinda did this, but not quite.

I'm actually impressed by how well the guitar stays in tune without the contraption. I have an American Deluxe with a roller nut and locking tuners and light downward use knocks the g string out.

Neat little piece specifically for freeflowing style tremolo bar system on the strings.
@yagoravell7944
@yagoravell7944 4 года назад
This would be great for a gibson style headstock, stoping the strings to make a angle at the nut, and locking the G string to not go out off tune 👏👏👏

If you're interested in something like that, check out the String Butler. They're great for the 3/3 style headstocks that have tuning issues.
@DeeKeyLP
@DeeKeyLP 4 года назад
@@stereolove21 hey! might help but my lp has a titanium nut which is not properly cut so strings probably will get stuck either way. i will take the nut to a luthier but that still doesn't guarantee tuning stability

WTF??? That is beyond cool but how does affect the sustain of the strings etc...?
@swingset1969
@swingset1969 4 года назад
Why would it? The sustain is the function of the string between the bridge and nut, not the dead string behind it.
@onefatstratcat

@Darrell Braun Guitar if you take that Strat Pro and remove the strings, won’t the back of the bridge/tremolo system lay against the body of the guitar with the 3 springs pushing down on it? And if so, can it eventually damage the finish? Thanks.

Wow, that ugly chunk of metal is pretty awesome! I normally avoid guitars with vibrato because of tuning problems (& I HATE Floyd Roses), so this thing may open some doors for me. Killer review, btw. Thanks!

Reminds me of the old Fender FTLN locking system. I actually still have one I long since removed from my old Strat. I wonder..it's so close in design, if I cut off the mounting tab, it could probably work just as this does. Cool idea to employ the floating concept.

For those complaining about the price, if you need this, you'll get it. If you don't need one, there is no reason to complain about the price. This was an excellent demo. No one is being forced to buy one.

Awesome! Thank you for sharing. I'd be interested to see this on a floyd rose trem and use this Nut Buster, and give results how both work together. Use both the fine tuners to really get close to perfect pitch. What do you think?

The thing that fixed my tuning was the saddles. I had the ones that are also on your strat. I put on slotted string saving saddles and it kept the strings centered. That solved my tuning issues. I took a close look at your bridge, and I hope it was not an illusion but I saw some strings aligned and others not, all in the same frame, before you did the nut install. Take a look at it. It might be all that some of your viewers need.

Seems very interesting. Wish I had seen this video before making my DIY attempt to smooth out the nut slots and failing miserably by filing down too much and causing open string fret buzz... Now I have a new nut on order and will keep this one in mind!
