The guy who plays the Barbarian is a good comedian, the timing on his line delivery is perfect. And also, he stays dead serious all the time, which really adds to the comedy of his character.
Barbarian does not mean he is stupid. Years ago 2nd edition created the barbarian handbook which proved that they were not stupid. Depending what kind of barbarian you play, they can be like indians, vikings, or Scottish highlanders.
PUBG in a nutshell, you are in low health because of a shot in the head, and then after a few energy drink and wrapping a bandage on your arm, you'll be in good shape
Alternative ending: They never wake up, because they all died to a night-raid since none of them stayed up to take the guard shift (and afaik they don't have 2 elves to cheese it).
Or one given an attack is gonna screw up the "uninterrupted" part that everyone needs and you'll have to devote another 8 just to getting spells back for the none elves that didn't finish sleeping.

It's a lovely twist how it's the raging berserker that's the sane straight man of the party. He nails the combination of confusion and frustration of being someone who lives in our reality being stuck in the world of DnD. BlankGrim getting his arse kicked is the cherry on the comedic cake as always. 😁🍒🎂 Interestingly enough. A good 8 hours of sleep does have incredible health benefits.
It's not needed though. We could just find a way to simulate the chemical reactions that go on in our bodies while we sleep so losing consciousness is never again needed. I much prefer a light meditation to actual sleep
@@TaddiestMason Dreams are a sign that the brain is doing a lot of management while we are asleep. Which it keeps away from the consciousness to the point lucid-dreaming is possible without interfering with this process - but the sleep as a form of detaching from the senses seems unavoidable.

Personally, I love how you added the part about the knife sticking out of his chest just disappears when he naps despite no one removing it! That was the cherry on top.
Long rest is not 8 hours of uninterrupted rest, but 8 hours in which you have 6 hours of sleep and 2 hours of light activity such as reading or keeping watch. That seems much more realistic.
@@Bakuryus Also Geralt can drink a dozen or more potions each day so he really has to worry not too much at all about his wounds (I mean in the books witchers are more resilient but cannot regenerate health, they need potions and an overdose of those is deadly but oh well game logic)
Ironically, a long rest would probably fix most problems in real life too. We will never know for sure though, because 8 hours of good sleep is naught but a myth, passed on from generation to generation to prevent morale failure. Excellent video as always!

I read an account of a D&D player who told the DM his character buried himself in the ground every night, save for a long breathing straw, so he could rest uninterrupted. :-)
In D&D it kind of makes sense as Hit Points are not Health Points, they are considered an abstract representation of life-force, health, endurance, luck and the sort of favoritism that follows main protagonists and antagonists in fictional stories. If they were strictly health points then it would also not make sense that creature with max 200HP fights with same power and ability when it is at 1HP.
Agreed, the character only really gets HIT when the points run out, everything up to that point in regards to losing hp is just a superficial scrape, block, deflection, or evasion. 0 hp or lower is the only time a character has suffered grievous harm that incapacitated them enough to need first aid stabilization and medical attention.
@@CanadianWolverine Not exactly. Hitpoint loss means a wound, but non-threatening one. A scratch, minor cut, bruise, first-degree burn, light concussion, anything you can brush off, but still representing something for the healing spells to fix. Or if your opponent, has, say, a poisoned weapon, you wouldn't get poisoned if HP loss represented parrying the blow.
@@Ranger1741 No, it is somewhere in between. Hit point damage *might* be a minor or serious wound, but it is defintiely not always. It represents a weakening of morale and tiring oneself out, as well as simply running out of 'luck'.
This is what I always do. Depending on location, there's an X% chance something will happen during the night. Could just be a little harmless curious fox curious about the camp. Or could be an owlbear deciding your "prolonged stay" in the area means you''re a threat to it's nest. :P
Funny Story: in a campaign my dm was really set on only giving out the rest benefits if you were able to sleep a total of 8 ours irp. This eventually led to a pretty interesting situation in which after a massive fight a member of our party decided to spend a few more extra hours partying in an inn as everyone else slept. The next day he had no spell slots and 12 HP whilst everyone else set off to fight the BBEG. It did eventually lead to him Deus Ex Machinaning the fight 3 hours late of course.

One of the things Pathfinder does right, you recover VERY little health after a long rest. (Unless you're using the the Stamina rules, but that frames the Stamina as "Expended energy" rather than wounds, and the Hit Points section that reflects wounds still takes a long time to recover without magic.)
When you say "does right", you are suggesting "more realistic". No one could really say DnD 5e was realistic, but its mechanics are based around game momentum, fun and avoiding the need to mandate a healer in the party, increasing player character choice, so its always a trade off.
@@MGrey-qb5xz It's based off of 3.5, it fits a crunchier playstyle, some people prefer to the slimmed down and streamlined 5th E rules, I find them too restrictive for my personal enjoyment.
@@paulmdevenney That's fair, I did mean more realistic, I'm not all in on the recovery system of PF2, that's why I mentioned the Stamina alternate rule the GMG introduces, because it strikes a nice balance between quickly recoverable Stamina, and more permanent Hit Points. The reason I enjoy PF2 is that because the rules are Crunchier there's a lot more flexibility for which ones you can include, leave out, or substitute depending on how you want to tailor a custom Campaign. 5th E meanwhile feels EXTREMELY "Samey" after a while, you can't really slim it down anymore than it already is, and it severely lacks in explanations for how to add your own rules to the game, which can lead to power creep or imbalance issues, even in official books. (While also tending to haphazardly insert half-constructed, poorly executed, rules into the backs of module books instead of putting in the effort to make books dedicated to those rules. Looking at you Saltmarsh Book I bought exclusively for the ship rules and The Guide to Ravenlofts extremely disappointing Domains of Dread section.)
So assuming you take a night rest set out in the morning, 2 hours later for example you have an encounter... then what? you spend 14 hours doing nothing just to start a new long rest? Well that's 22 hours of staying in the same spot which in most scenarios would be perfect for an enemy to jump you.
The poison killed you instantly, but you could be revived from the dead if a cure poison spell was applied within minutes of death. The hit points were like 1 per day plus at the end of a full week of rest you got your CON bonus as a bonus. So a 18 CON fighter could be back to full fighting strength (without magic) in a bit over two months.
Nice one, Robbie. The make up and outfits are amazing. I did miss not hearing Zargrum/Pargrum/Targrum’s (?????). silly quips this episode. Well done everyone. Mum xxx

At the risk of sounding like a fun killing psycho, in dnd hit points are an abstraction. They don't represent your ability to get stabbed through the chest with a greatsword and live. That's pretty lethal. Rather they represent your characters ability to turn a direct hit into a glancing blow. They are stamina, reflexes, luck, skill, divine intervention. When a character is "hit' They don't actually suffer a full blow, rather they through the above manage to turn with effort a fatal a blow into one that doesn't matter. So a character with low hp isn't fubard, they're just so exhausted/their luck has been spent that they really can't defend against legitimately dangerous attacks.
It's _Cure Wounds_ not _Cure Abstraction Points_ - SHEEESH! LOL. 😂😏 (Actually, true - how I GM it, I never say "the sword slashes you doing X points", instead saying something like "you block the sword barely but that sends you over (the altar/table/etc), winding you and costing X hp as you recover to...?" It's both memorable, utilizes the scene, and more descriptive of the ongoing action than the bland "you're hit for 11 damage - okay, what do you do?"
0:05 * Sees Hargram lying on the bottom, looking dead. Waits for one of his identical brothers to appear. * Wait, Adam's character calls him Wargrim. How many died since the last episode? (Also, last episode he calls himself Hargrim, but the official subtitles call him Hargram. Miner inconsistencies.) :( If we ignore the "Hargram" subtitle mistake: 1. Fargrim > Targrim 2. Targrim > Hargrim 3. Wargrim Hargrim died between episodes 2 and 3 ...
I think the best interpretation of hit points is that most of them are like glancing blows or near hits, and then like the last few ones before you are unconscious are actually like bad injuries or if you get picked it’s just slow blood loss
I guess that's one way of misinterpreting wounds in D&D. I always misinterpret it the way that they do in Nathan Drake games. Where the HP is actually your players luck and ability to slightly defend vital areas so over the course of the fight the PC becomes more tired until eventually the HP reaches zero meaning that fatal wound is finally landed and the player has to start a death roll.
Yes, you are correct. They are called "HIT" points not "HEALTH" points for a reason. It is specifically said so in the rules that reaching 0 hit points means you are actually struck by a weapon, until then you are just taking scrapes, bruises and armor damage. Then again, the game is supposed to be fun and taking 2 months or more to convalesce wouldn't be too much fun. So a dislike from me.
@@wagesofsinn3881 It is more like they want an easy content that everyone expects. It requires less effort and gives you great rewards. Coming up with genuinely smart content isn't easy. On the other hand their FPS logic series was almost 100% spot on parody of Call of Duty WW2, which I played after I saw the FPS logic series and I just couldn't believe how shockingly accurate most scenes were to the game, down to some really small details.
It's not a misinterpretation. The two interpretations are not mutually exclusive and not meant to be mutually exclusive. From 1e AD&D onward, each hit suffered by the character is meant to both deal some amount of physical damage and some amount of abstract damage. But it's certainly the case that if your character is reduced to near zero hit points, that they've taken quite a bit of physical trauma. In older editions of the game, such a character would have required days or even weeks to heal up naturally despite the fact that explicitly hit points were both physical fortitude and abstract ability to avoid damage. The only misinterpretations in my opinion are when you try to treat hit points as all one or the other. That leads to all sorts of problems in the fictional framing of a scene. Now, it is true that 5e has largely done a handwave on the casual realism found in earlier editions, leading to the logic shown in the video where a player who doesn't know the rules would probably RP doing things that are completely logical for a level of casual realism, but unnecessary or even illogical under the rules. Some people have a bigger problem with that than others.
I think a long rest assumes that you are using part of this time to tend to your wounds with healing of non or magical type of some kind to recover, or D&D races just have stronger innate healing abilities as reflected by spending your hit dice for short rests :P
Ah, I remember the days when a long rest didn't recover all lost hp. you got some back, but most hp was gained from healing spells that were regained and recast during the resting period
