@ around 36 minutes, I’ve been away for some time but either the bakery or the winery cellar buildings for a time back in the 1950’s operated as a knitting mill producing woollen fabrics ; it was known as Cleckheaton from my distant memory.

The Information Centre used to be a public toilet , known locally as “the comfort station”. (There is still a toilet at the rear).

Re. the hotels ; in the older days Heathcote was reputed to have had the highest alcohol consumption per head in Victoria. Mainly due to wood cutters , though shearer’s played a part as well. I’m 78 and when I was young there was not a wine grape growing in the region though there once were plenty. The phylloxera wiped them all out and they didn’t re-appear until around the late 1960’s.

In measuring the Main Street it is worth remembering that Heathcote adjoins what used to be known as South Heathcote which is just over the hill to the south of the town on the Northern Highway. Whether that part of the “Main” street counts in distance I am not sure. (South Heathcote used to have a bit of it’s own identity even with it’s own football club).

@davidmartin1015. Welcome to the channel and thank you for watching and commenting. Yes, a few of these towns do tend to morph into South or West, East or North provinces, so I am not sure exactly where the main street was measured in order to proclaim it the 'longest' main street and I cannot find reference to it, sadly. Nevertheless, to the average eye, it appears long to travel along (I believe 1.2 km??). Happy reading and safe travels ABT
