We must not lose this historically unique facility. More television was shot and produced here than anywhere in the world. It is a unique American Treasure. Over 60 years, CBS Television City has served to connect American families during times of peace and war, of happiness and strife. It has kept a nation entertained, whether laughing with Carol Burnett or Red Skelton, debating during All in The Family, transfixed during Playhouse 90, or guessing with Price is Right. It has and does employ thousands of top professionals. It is a gold mine of creativity. So much of today is about ephemeral, disposable immediate gratification. Here today, gone tomorrow. Perspective is sometimes the odd man out. We must not lose sight of what is timeless and what helps define us as Americans. Our popular culture as embodied by these wonderful shows was key in enriching our collective experience - something sorely lacking in todays polarized environment. Who does not remember family nights of laughter... of joy. The rumor that TV City may be up for sale and possibly razed for yet another condominium complex - should stay just that...an insidious rumor. Television History is Our history. And it helps define us and make our lives better. For goodness sake, lets stop, take a breath and take a long look at what is valuable. What was, and continues to be created here - is nothing short of a national treasure.
visited the farmers market behind that building. had no idea all the stuff that went on in that place! found out that American Idol and Dancing with the Stars is also taped there! Those are not even CBS networks! I'll apply for a security position there just to be part of it's history. or get myself there at 6am to watch Price is Right live! hope im told to come on down!
How are other shows filmed in the Bob Barker Studio if TPIR uses it for most of the time? Do TPiR use other studios if Studio 33 is used, or is Studio 33 only used during the Summer when TPiR is on its off-season?
Who was that host anyway? Also, there are tons and tons of shows over the years taped at CBS, from the $25,000 Pyramid to America's Got Talent. They will rent their studios out to anyone who will pay, and I don't blame them. I think someone told me it's really one of the last full-service studios in Hollywood, but I don't know much about other studios other than CBS.
Glenn Lego KNXT (now known as KCBS) and its sister station KCAL have their headquarters at the CBS Studio Center in the Studio City section of Los Angeles, which is also the home of "Entertainment Tonight" and "The Talk," among other shows.
It's been KCBS-TV since 1988, and no, it's not under the same roof. Until a few years ago, KCBS-FM, KCBS-TV channel 2 and KNX 1070 were at "Columbia Square" on Sunset Blvd. CBS TV City on Beverly Blvd. is a network facility only.

Studio 33 was also the home of the short-lived and star-crossed Judy Garland variety show, which aired for one season in the early 1960s. A shortened stub of the “fan” that extends out into the audience area , and from which Garland sang some her most iconic numbers, can still be seen, between the stairs the winning contestants on TPIR use to get to the stage from “contestants row.”. Studio 33 was extensively remodeled for the anticipated event series “The Judy Garland Show” was expected to be. Alas, the series was time-slotted against ratings powerhouse “Bonanza” and didn’t stand a chance; one can find the only season of Jdy’s Show around, and some of the performances (Barbara Streisand, Ethel Merman and Garland singing all together on one episode, for example) are absolute show business gold, and worth seeking out, all from Studio 33 at CBS Television City in Hollywood. We can’t let this historic treasure fall by the wayside at the hands of greedy development.
