I went with Sony because of my broadcast background. Even though I only worked at the community station for a few years and we were using mostly CEI and Hitachi equipment we started to put in Sony gear right after I left however all these years I was doing stringer work for a couple of networks including the CB and whenever I would go into the station all the equipment they had was Sony it was all betacam and 1". At this point I was working in the repair shop and we serviced all brands I got to see which ones broke down the most JVC Panasonic hitachi RCA. I have had other brands notably Panasonic I had APVS350 and an AG450 both were a piece of crap. I had some JVC equipment I still do an AYDV 500 which was a piece of junk. My first SD based HD camera was AJVCI forget the model number it's still around here somewhere the imager went bad when I caught a bright light might have been a laser pointer but still pointing a less than 1 mW laser pointer in the direction of the camera should not permanently scar the image sensor but it certainly did on the JVC. Sony's always had the best cameras and that's not just my opinion I don't touch cannon because of all the troubles that cannon had in the past and all the ones I had to repair during my career at the repair shop because we did cannon as well we were a cannon dealer and they had the biggest c*** cameras I've seen. As to the cameras that I use the AX 100 has been replaced by the AX 700 the differences the 700 has HDR which the 100 does not. The HDRAX53 which I shoot my RU-vid videos on now is still a current model that is available as is the 43 which is the lower priced version without the eyepiece. Might be a little bit harder to find the AX53 as that's getting pretty long in the tooth now it was around for a number of years and was replaced by the 53 but if you can Find one used it could probably get a pretty good deal on it as it's a great camera. Many people pick the DSLR type are the mirrorless cameras now as they can be cheaper for the camera and you can mount whatever lenses you want and that's fine those cameras are great the APC and full frame am images are fantastic but I didn't want a camera like that I do have an APC size DSLR and I've got a couple of lenses for it but I just find it it's just too big I wanted something that was small That I could attach over the bench and that is why went with the 33 and 53. Another huge advantage to shooting on a video camera versus a regular still camera that has video capabilities is that all is still cameras have a maximum record time of 30 minutes actually 29 minutes and 59 seconds if you really want to split hairs, The reason that they have this limitation is because in Europe backwards country that they are they charge a value-added tax and it's quite high on video cameras but they don't charge it on still cameras and what the EU defines as a video camera Is a camera that records for more than 30 minutes without stopping so video cameras such as I use you can throw them in record and you can leave them in record until the memory card is full which could be 8 or 10 hours down the road depending on the size of the cart if I put a 256 gig card in my camera I can record 10 hours straight a 4K video and I will end up with a file that is 240 plus gigs in size. Yes you heard correct in the AVC-S File format the files are huge it does not break them and the smaller files in the standard AVCHD mode that I normally use It breaks the file at the 10 minute mark and continues on with a new file but it still continues to record and does not stop until I hit the record stop button. By contrast my Sony DSLR will record 29 minutes and 59 seconds and then it stops completely and I have to start at a game and that might be fine for someone who's doing short clips and even doing my videos that would be fine because I'm never recording anything more than 30 minutes in one go however what I do coverage of meetings or seminars which I do from time to time and the client needs A continual file with no breaks shooting on a DSLR is a problem. Anyway back to y shoot with Sony well they are the highest performance and basically the best cameras on the market to ask anyone in Hollywood look at all the films that are shot on the Sony Venice that should tell you right there.
