A Look At Setting A Clean Shooting Screen on an Olympus E-M1 Mark III Micro Four Thirds Camera

When taking pictures I like to concentrate on the subject completely. That mean for me a clean shooting screen, no extraneous clutter at all. I know video makers prefer it that way but I'm sure some stills shooters would too.
It can be difficult or possible to do with most cameras but I've found a way with the Olympus E-M1 Mark III. It seems a bit convoluted but it's a tribute to the camera's flexibility that you can do it at all! I'd suggest setting a clean screen setup to one of the Custom settings if you find it comfortable.

Someone new to this channel may look it over and make the mistake in thinking that it's nothing but a gear discussion forum... Invest a little time and you will realize .. everything here is about getting you to the image.... And I never finish David's videos without wanting to go grab my bag and go see what's out there... David; I am glad you cleaned that up! Now if only you could get the film canister in one of the two card slots we'll be getting somewhere!

I got out my Dremel and reamed out the top slot so the canister will fit but the camera won't record to it. I don't think your idea is going to work, George 😂

Nice quick little video. Olympus seems to do some great things (Panasonic too) that other manufacturers haven't bothered with. I hope celebrating something like this might inspire other brands to pick up where Olympus is leaving off.

That sounds ominous, Keith! I'm hoping Olympus will continue. But yes, Micro Four Thirds cameras have some neat tricks up their sleeves and long may it continue.

On the G9 you could push the display button until it only shows the image, then look at the LCD on top for information...

That's right. I do wish Panasonic would enable an option to simply toggle the Info screen on and off instead of cycling through others, including off.

I will have to play around with my EM10 Mk3 and see if I can get similar results. What I love about Olympus is their lens. Wonderful wonderful, well built lens.

What? You mean the Panasonic G9 isn't the most versatile camera you can get? Did you switch sides? LOL! Just kidding buddy. Good of you to put out this video on something that looks like Olympus users were trying to figure out.. I bought your "Panasonic GX8 Menu System Simplified" book a few years ago and found it incredibly useful. From a photographers perspective and not a re-hash of the user's manual.

Thanks for the kind words about the book, Ricardo. The G9 and the E-M1 Mark III , I could happily work with either. To have two such capable cameras yet usefully different but using the same lenses is a real bonus. Imagine a Canon body that could take Nikon lenses - but it's not going to happen!

Sadly the mk2 doesn’t allow for this extremely useful set up. Is there a faint hope that Olympus will issue an update? Probably not, since they are selling off.

I moved away from Sony because of their mess of a menu sys. With my Fz2500 & G9 the well designed menu, integrated flip-out touch screen, Quick menu, lots of function buttons, ect, ect - the camera makes it easy to focus on creating photos. Period. Liked your G9 simplified book & I'll offer to proof read your next book for free ! ( grammar foilables )

The proof reading would be welcome! I go through the books myself and with various programs I do everything from the coding to the layout to the washing up and I find I always, always miss some things. It drives me mad. I'd enmploya proof reader bit it would actually cost me more than the book would make 😐

I don't think you can but I haven't a Mark II to hand. Certainly the Info screen doesn't exist but you could do the same thing with the SCP screen if there is an LV-Info 'Informations' setting. I don't think there is.

Ho, Jorge. As far as I know the cameras and lenses will continue under a different corporation. At least, I hope so. But after this pandemic, nothing is certain for anyone. Fimgers crossed for Olympus, their stuff is too good to be dumped.
