Couldn’t agree more on the whole bed setup deal. I see some amazing bed builds...but dad always said..”pride will cost you more than what you want to pay.”
You really know how to articulate common sense and welding wisdom. I love your whole operation. Keep those videos coming sir! I want to absorb all that knowledge you obtain! God speed watch your six and keep your powder dry.
Here in Virginia, I run a’17 F-550 with a V-10 gas burner. Best decision I ever made. Love it! The ‘07 F-550 diesel I replaced almost bankrupted me and my business. Had to go to the shop, on average, every 6 months for engine repairs. Bullet proofed it and it just found other places to break🤦🏻♂️. Early on, I applied for and got my US DOT number and then called the Va. motor carrier office to obtain information on how to be compliant. If you can even get someone on the phone, good luck on getting a straight answer! I was more confused when I got off the phone than before. I don’t even post the number on my last two trucks. I do however, have my CDL, medical card, triangles, fire extinguisher, commercial insurance and 26,000 pound tags. I do not have my business name on the truck. Good advice, I think.
I just bought a used knapheide for my 16 superduty. Gas with 153k on it. It’s been a runner since I bought it new. People ask why I didn’t buy a diesel, and I say I didn’t want to be a mechanic lol nice video of this truck and tools you carry. I’m an electrician but enjoy welding as well. Thanks for posting
really well thought-out setup. the added cages and rack with the wind guard too is nice. i found on my body they blocked too much of the vent tube for the slow gas filling problem
I don't understand....an overhead rack blocked you tank vent tube?...my tank vent canister is under the bed above the spare where there is no way an overhead rack could block it

Great truck in great condition and very well set up. I wish we had trucks like that over here in the UK but we have such damp weather and a lot of rain we need vans so stuff stays dry and somewhere to escape the rain.
Hey CB, I know you said something about the air compressor I would look into the Miiller air pac 330 trailblazer. I think it shorter in size and it’ll fit where your existing 302 is now. If you didn’t wanna go that route look for Ingersoll, rand T 30 air compresser. I run a K 4000 carbon arc rig off of it. It’s a dual stage compressor so your never left without air. I don’t know where you would put it. I think the air pac would be the way to go if it would fit.
Sweet setup and you are right weight is the biggest thing on a service truck. That's why I run a f550. You can pick up used fleet f550's just as cheap or cheaper than anything else. And you don't have to worry about weight. My deck is steel fairly heavy but fairly light built. The big blue 500 has some weight to er though. I have a discrete roof rack that I can carry full length material on. It's a functional setup But it could be better. I definitely want to build a custom setup one day. But my ole deck has been doing the job for 12 years now. I put the weight numbers on the side the same as the weight on the tag on the truck, and it's below the weight in Alberta to need a cvip. The key pad is definitely an awesome feature. I have heard nothing but good things about the 6.2 gas. I am thinking about getting a 6.2 for my personal truck. I do love your roof rack setup. I love my crew cab I removed my back seat and built plywood shelving in the back and I love it. I Don't think I'd run anything but a super duty for a welding truck after owning two. Sweet truck man and I have been loving your channel lately. Cheers!
Fantastic setup. I envy you :-) ps. instead of a tailgate, you could use a small door - especially since it could be a half-door (the other half would be the side of the large chest). In this position, it would be much easier for you to climb in and you wouldn't have to use the footrest because the step/bumper wouldn't be covered by the tailgate.
I was keeping track of how many well heads I welded on for the gas company that I was a vendor for…they switched to a landing ring type system and when I started doing those I stopped keeping track
I was about to ask where your concrete hammer drill was. I seem to use mine all the time. Seems like I’m always bolting the metal things I make into concrete.
thanks for the tour.......essential craftsman has a nice tour of his OBS super duty set up for carpentry/construction if anyone would be interested in a non welding work truck.
I think the reason the welder is now designed to face the passenger side of the service truck is because of what a lot of heavy mechanics have shown me about the passenger side being their work side. Arnold, Pape and others have said so.
I agree with you 100% on the newer model Trailblazers, I have a 302 and was going to replace it with another on as it had about 2,500 hours on it and i really like this welder, when I saw how Miller had screwed the design on the new models I decided just to keep mine couldn't live with the fuel and oil filter on the wrong side. Mine now now has a little over 4,000 hours on it and still runs and welds perfect after a few minor repairs.
Yessir…I actually have 2 of them because years ago when the Miller representative showed me the new machine that they built backwards I ask him if I could still get one like mine with a carburetor on it…he replied “There are a few left”…so I bought another one at that time…right now each of mine have about 2000 hours on them.
Why would you want to walk all the way around your truck to shut the welder on and off...all of my most used stuff is on the drivers side...the stuff on the other side are things I access less often.
I made a mark inside the door every time I welded a well head on a gas well for Antero Resources…I did over 100 of those. Then they stop using weld on well heads and switched to a weld on load ring system and I installed well over 100 of those too.
