4:30 thru 4:34 I had a set of new non-issued shirt, pants, vest and helmet cover of this T pattern. Purchased from an officer in the Urban Soldier/Oakland operation. The reason I mention this is the vest, pants and BDU shirt had three different manufacturer labels. I looked up the manufacturer's information and observed the manufacturing facilities on Google satellite. The vest was made by prison labor (employment training). I can't remember which was made by which - but the BDU and pants had labels for (1) a handicap and (2) a family reconstruction (abused families) training centers. I just though to add this little known information to its history.

I mean, if you're holding a rifle, acting like a soldier I'm highly doubtful any enemy soldier would think twice about shooting at you. If you're hard to see, they won't be able to spot you, and thus they won't shoot at you. However, if you aren't wearing any military gear, and are just doing Intel gathering, then I agree, regular clothes are definitely the way to go.

Hi. Respectfully, I have photos of me wearing "urban woodland" in 1985. Bought the civilian produced but BDU milspec set at a local surplus store where they had a wide variety of woodland based but printed in neon colors as well as the black/grey/white urban woodland pattern BDU's. They were really popular with new wave kids back then. I still have the whole set from then : ). A friend and I discovered that urban woodland was nearly ideal for under an oak grove canopy in a full moon. Really effective.

And at certain point the urban camo inspired China to a limit extent adopted for their airborne troops, that until the new pattern series debuted in 2019, it was more of a vocation colors than practical camo, same as to why the US military didn't adopt the urban camo... With the new camo pattern series, the practice of "vocation pattern" is to be abolished as the new uniforms rolling out to general issue.

I've done reconstructions of the T-pattern and the 2-color. I'm pretty confident in my T-pattern reconstruction, and I can say that it's a very wide pattern, like post-Vietnam US patterns usually are. Two-color is a lot tougher to figure out. I do have a horizontally-repeating reconstruction, but I am wholly unsure if it's fully accurate, as there's quite a bit of free space between the dark grey splotches, but the samples I've gotten suggest it has a diagonal repeat on the horizontal axis. Also, are its official colors light and dark grey or light tan and dark grey? I also have a reconstruction of the Dual-Tex. Took me a few years to find enough samples to get a repeating tile.

Marine Corps Uses coyote brown because it's neutral like OD Green is. They made sure to have coyote brown in their camouflage patterns when they made Marpat, so that it would match. The reason they did this was to save money on it. Armour vests are one of those things that you have to mass produce, its cheaper to use one color and one dye. Than to ise multiple to pattern them.

That's an interesting blub of not well known uniform history. In the early to mid 90's, MCSF PRP, MCSF FAST and MCSF RTT honestly just wore our normal uniforms under body armor that was better than the flak jackets of the time, but probably not as good as the protective gear infantry wear today. Some CQB teams wore the sage green Nomex flightsuit, but that wasn't really in the budget pre 9-11. MOUT has changed a bit over the last 30 years. It makes sense the uniforms have too.

I have an Army National Guard promotional jungle hat in the gray woodland pattern. I think I picked it up 20 years ago at a yard sale. It says "Army National Guard" on the front and has the American flag and a phone number on the back. It's actually very well made. Thick cloth, snaps on both sides to snap them in place, and a very nice adjustable chin strap. On the tag inside it says "One size fits all- made in China". WTH lol !!

Never knew us military officially trialed with urban camo. I always thought the only urban one was that commerical one that was used in the 90s

There were a couple other versions of the T-camo made one that used white in place of the black and actually worked much better. As far as I know they were only made a samples and evaluated. Never were they given to troops to try. Most urban camos fail trials due to their performance against NOD

Others sources say the camouflage outfits worn by marines in the pacific -- after constantly stained with sweat and repeated washes the colors fade -- and were spotted almost immediately by Japanese snipers. They were later discontinued. I don't believe camo was employed in the Korea conflict in any major way, if at all....... and I hope you cover the unsuccessful camouflage uniforms worn by Normandy campaign soldiers who were mistaken at a distance by U.S. artillery for Waffen SS and other elite German outfits.

Good video man, I love to see info about camo spread to more people! You missed a couple patterns, including urban tracks, all over brush, the navy woodland patterns, and the air force trials tiger stripe pattern. I have a complete set of all 4 close combat uniforms and some other us experimental patterns. A lighter colored t-mout camo was actually tested by the army at natick laboratories!

Also, a desert variant of t-mout has been produced and used locally in the African country of Gabon, along with the original colorway! I know the guy who's Ebay listing you posted, he's yet to sell any repro stuff for the prices hes asking.

DTEX and T Block look actually somewhat usefull. T Block might be too dark, the more tan colors of the first pattern may have worked better.

There's idiots in the Military Type 99 Oceanic was designed to mask personell onboard Naval Vessels makeing it difficult for the enemy to see the Sailor's or Marines onboard Haze Gray & Underway. The Camouflage Pattern can also be used in a Urban or Artic Environment so it isn't useless by any means. The Blue Variant is to hide someone in the water or to be worn at night makeing it difficult for them to be picked out. I purchased both Camouflage Patterns because they actually work. There's a company that makes custom patches for them if you look hard enough you'll find them .

Like three shades of grey most being darker color, maybe some tans, and some black would be a great combination of colors/shades for urban camo.

So yeah. If you were metal in the 90s - you just had to have had these pants. I had 2 pairs. Still have one and a Jacket. It's the coolest camo ever - and when I say that I mean more as a fashion. I don't know how well it holds in real life military aplications. That's a whole another story :D
