In 2012 WWE rebranded a game show to their official developmental. It all began as something that was supposed to have the next generation filter through it. As a place where wrestlers could train for a future WWE main roster career. But what it morphed into was a super indy of a lifetime, something no one could've imagined, something special. A brand that fans will forever love. Here's a look back at the black and gold brand.

In my opinion, 2018 and 2019 were the best years for the NXT brand. It didn't feel like a developmental brand. It genuinely felt like a third brand. The ring work was top notch and the storytelling was brilliant. NXT 2.0 focuses more on character development, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Words cannot describe just how special this era was for us fans. NXT truly had something the main roster was lacking at the time, passion. Everything that was shown, such as storylines, characters, the wrestling, promos, the crowd reactions, everything was nearly perfect. For me and my brother, it was NXT that brought back our passion for wrestling as it gave us so much nostalgia and vibes from our favorite era, Ruthless Aggression. We got some of our most fondest memories during this time, especially from 2016-2020. Truly good times. Absolutely fantastic work on this nostalgic documentary, homie, you nailed it with this one.👍😭

This video truly brought a tear to my eye. Black and Gold was special. But a lot of what made Black and Gold magical is being translated into today's product, so while it hurts that we no longer have that era of NXT, its essence runs deep within the veins of today's WWE, and I'm loving being a fan today. So much Lightning was caught into a bottle. From Undisputed Era, to Bobby Roode, to WarGames, just so much greatness for something that was treated as a developmental brand.

The very first TNA PPV I ever got was Samoa Joe’s first TNA match and I bought the PPV just to see him wrestle AJ Styles. Seeing him squandered in TNA was heartbreaking. And Asuka was already my favorite female wrestler of all time at that point. I discovered her in like 2009 or 2010 when she was KANA in Japan and I watched everything I could find of her. She was just next level. So when she debuted in NXT, I freaked out.

The few Ws I hope Triple H can actually pull off is more controversial attitude era-esque storylines and iconic characters and stars. Even with the women too. Look who you can turn into icons: The Bloodline, Judgement Day, Toxic Attraction, Wyatt 6, Bron Breakker, Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, AJ Styles, Imperium, Brawling Brutes, Joe Gacy, LA Knight, Karrion Kross, Bianca Belair, Nikkita Lyons, Grayson Waller, Pretty Deadly, Carmelo Hayes, Tiffany Stratton, and alot more. Put them in good and captivating stoties, controversial stories, some with controversial characters (Joe Gacy got news outlets talking at one point). There’s plenty of potential here

@@LittleMan27 agree about character but we don’t need attitude era storylines now when looking back on it 75% of it was shit and nonsense. It was truly a product of it’s time. Fans nowadays care about in ring storytelling now, and I do agree that characters are now lost in that aspect. Which why NXT was literally the the perfect combination of that good characters with good storyline having great wrestling matches. The problem with the former NXT people that Triple H is bringing back and putting on the show is that they are being put out there with no induction and think the causal fans watched NXT and knows them. Sometimes they just need to run video packages on them and introduce them to the WWE causal audience, letting them understand their characters and an idea of who they are rather than throwing them out there to the shark seeing if they could sink or swim.

@@randellhowardiv8168 "Fans nowadays" are a fraction of the size of the audience during the Attitude Era. "In-ring storytelling" is still shit and nonsense, and pretty much always has been, the big difference being that it's much more boring than the ridiculous stuff that happened in the Attitude Era. When all the stories just amount to "these two guys don't like each other and want to kick each other's ass" and then it culminates in an obviously fake, choreographed match in the ring, people might as well just watch MMA instead, since the payoff is actually going to be legit.

The current NXT 2.0 era ended up working out well. They had a 15k attendance for S&D Guys like Carmelo, Bron, Trick, Roxanne are stars It may not be like the black and gold era, but it’s now it’s true form as a Hot Development brand

Nxt was there for us when RAW and SmackDown dropped the ball. It mostly avoided the stupid sh*t and put the focus back where it belongs - in the ring.
