It always amazes me they tear the sets down after the film is complete. Those beautiful sets but we don't see the back where the glue shows.

At 2:00 you can see "Waltons Mountain" in the background. I worked on the goonies movie and was on that pirate ship with one eyed Willy. Willy was a real human skeleton procured by one of the magical Warner Brothers property people. In fact all of the skeletons on that ship were real human skeletons.I was told the skeletons were picked clean by flesh eating beetles and were meant to be used in scientific studies, which is where they probably all ended up. I still have some of the fake doubloons that the property master gave me. I found a small package of powder on the stage at the wrap party, I had no idea what it was so I took to the security chief Jack Egger, he asked me if I knew what that powder was, I said no and he told me it was heroin. I have bittersweet memories of working at Warner Bros. Large companies get filled with greed, that is why they are no longer the largest movie companies in Hollywood. After the major studios busted the unions, all of the smaller movie companies took over, rightfully so. They deserved what they got! "And the first one now will later be last, for the times they are a changing" (bob dylan, on caps = no respect).

The video neglects to mention that there was no safe way to remove those railroad ties after the new lower walls had been built, so huge blocks of ice were wedged under the bottom of the old walls and allowed to melt which lowered the stage slowly onto the new base. He also fails to point out that the stage's new height put far more strain on the new base than the lot's other stages. They didn't want to build thicker walls to support the old stage, so a series of buttresses -- steel beams encased in masonry -- were erected to restrain the outward pressure, giving the stage its unique appearance (Warner's frequently used its distinctive look in films to double everything from prison walls to railway tunnels). The only other stage in the world (as far as I know) to also be supported by a series of buttresses (of a completely different design) is the even bigger third 007 Stage at Pinewood Studios outside London.

I was a Studio Electrician on The Heretic The Exorcist Part 2 and we shot in Stage 16. They built a African Village type set and it was amazing. Used more lights in one stage than had ever been used before. Had to bring electricity from the next door stage to support all the arc and 10k lights.

I used to be a store manager at a Warner Bros Studio Store in the late 90's and our yearly conferences were held in LA and I was lucky enough to be there on the Mr. Freeze set. The floor was covered not with ice but with flooring covered to look like shining ice.

I love the magic of Hollywood. Too bad I didn't major in special effects or film production. Film school is a little out of Post 9/11 GI Bill price range. Lame.
@haleyjones8960
@haleyjones8960 5 лет назад
This is so so so late, but you definitely don't have to go to film school. I'm an actor, and getting into that is a whole different beast, but I've heard being a Production Assistant is a very common, easy 'in' into the industry. It's a starter job and definitely not one most people that start as PAs intend to keep. It's a gateway job, really. I did a couple PA jobs when I lived in a place with a virtually non-existent film industry - a PA gig for American Idol in the town I was living in at the time when they did national touring auditions, and another gig for a TLC reality show. I did it for fun, fairly easy money and to still be working an industry job since there was so little film acting work, even though the PA gigs were just a few days long at most. Made a number of small mistakes and looked painfully green (amateur) on those jobs, but every PA started green somewhere. All in all, if this is a career field you really want, stupidly expensive film school isn't your only route.

Not quite the tallest stage if you consider height above floor. The high side of Stage 27 at Sony Pictures is 80' to the perms (low side is 50'). Stage 6 was also 80' to the perms when it was being used as a stage. Sony's Stage 15 has right around 42,000 sq. ft. of space

So, does this set not have an elephant door. Well like you said, you can take out the floor, and it'll go down 25 feet, does this mean that you have to walk up a flight of stairs to get on the actual set, or is there two floors. Or is the set actually almost 100 feet in the inside, like you walk in the elephant door and its 100 feet tall. The set just seems so strange to me on how it was just...raised 25 feet.

Is Stage 16 where they filmed the grotto/One-Eyed Willie’s ship (the Inferno) scene from The Goonies?? I read that once they finally wrapped up filming that entire scene, they had to dismantle EVERYTHING on set … including that AMAZING pirate ship display, which caused Richard Donner & the rest of the set design crew to get all emotional… 😢 (supposedly Donner himself wanted to keep that massive ship display as a souvenir, and planned to put it in his backyard, lol)

Extremely impressive. Amazing what proper production can do to the world. It has transformed kids to become Navy fighter pilots because of Top Gun, transformed people into killers like the joker movie shooter James Holmes, turned people into Christians from the Jesus film by the guy who made Bravehart, made people into better lovers because of Titanic, created all kinds of permanent fetishes from cartoons like Hentai, etc. All done sometimes on the other-side of the world. The benefits of proper logistics and marketing. Making gun control look like it's the worst thing in the world when the other statistics that are indeed higher aren't even seen as an issue.
