Have you ever wondered what $1200 buys you from SVS? In this video I take a look inside my SVS SB-3000. I will go over the cabinet construction, TS parameters of the driver, technologies being used in the driver, and the amplifier. If I can get at least 200 likes on this video, then I will do a look inside video of my SVS SB-16 Ultra.

Thanks from Norway. Your video helped me make up my mind. I will buy this subwoofer for my stereo music system. From this video, it's obvious that SVS builds serious quality products at friendly prices. The beefy element looked impressive, good power amplifier with app control DSP, nice stiff thick baffled box, good looking outside finish... And people say it sounds great. I believe it will satisfy my needs 👌

Great review inside this sub! I see you have Sonus Faber Sonetto 8's. I have the 5's in a 2 Chanel system. Do you think this sub will match well with the Sonetto's or is is too big. I own the SB 100 pro for a theater setup and love it. Thanks!
@generationbehindhifi
@generationbehindhifi 7 месяцев назад
Thanks! I have Sonus Faber Venere S speakers (they look very similar to the Sonettos) and they are a really good match for the SB-3000. I purchased the SB-3000 specifically to match with my Sonus Faber speakers and have an SB-16 paired with my B&W 802 Diamonds in my primary system. Both subs have been great at doing both music and movies. The DSP on both of these subwoofers really helps with integration. If you're more of a two channel music guy, then you might want to look at the REL S510 or S812 if you can swing it. Hope this helps!

I’d like to see an RSL Speedwoofer or Monolith subwoofer done in the future. I’d REALLY like to see anything from JL Audio done too. Preferably Fathom V2 or E-Sub but they’re so expensive I wouldn’t expect you to get your hands on one so I’d be happy with even a Dominion. Won’t even talk about the Gotham V2…lol. Also you said guess high so I guess I was a bit too high on the SVS weight.
@generationbehindhifi
@generationbehindhifi 8 месяцев назад
Thanks for the great suggestions! I have heard good things about the Monolith subs and have always wanted to try one out. I think next year is the year when I pull the trigger on one. I have heard the original JL Fathom F110 and was not impressed at all and thought it was crazy overpriced. Maybe things have changed since the v2?
@Mike.Macmyazka
@Mike.Macmyazka 8 месяцев назад
@@generationbehindhifi I’ve heard some really good things about V2 myself but it’s kind of like an endgame sub for me so I probably won’t be able to touch anything of theirs for a few years at least if ever. I’d like to audition one but I have to drive 100 miles plus to a dealer that has them. So I don’t see that happening.
@generationbehindhifi
@generationbehindhifi 8 месяцев назад
@@Mike.Macmyazka Just make sure that you purchase from a dealer with an excellent return policy if you do pull the trigger on a JL subwoofer. IMO they are way over hyped or at least they were back then. After walking away so disappointed during the F110 demo, I never had the urge to demo another one and you definitely don't want buyer's remorse when spending that kind of money! Edit: I can't believe JL now wants $4000 for F110 v2 subwoofer. Back when I had my demo they were around $2200! Wow!

My sound system consists of 6 SVS Ultra Bookshelf speakers (2 for the mains, 2 for the side channels, and 2 for the rears), an SVS Ultra Center speaker, 4 SVS Prime Elevation speakers ceiling mounted for Dolby Atmos and 2 SVS SB-3000 Subwoofers. The system is powered by a Parasound Halo A52+ 5 channel amplifier and a Yamaha Aventage RX-A8A 11 channel AVR with dual AC Infinity AIRCOM T9's keeping them cool, and all are connected to a Panamax M5400-PM Power Conditioner. The output power of this Living Room home theater system is 2,800 watts R.M.S.

Any chance you got the box volume while in there? I ended up with one of these drivers and need to build an enclosure.
@generationbehindhifi
@generationbehindhifi 5 месяцев назад
Sorry! I'm not taking it apart again. Although if I had to guess, it's probably a little over 1 cu feet in volume. You could also plug in the T/S parameters of the driver into WinISD and it will give you the optimal box size depending on what frequency curve you prefer. Hope this helps!
@jensschlegel346
@jensschlegel346 5 месяцев назад
Hi :-) Thanks for a great video! I have an amplifier module from an SVS PC13-Ultra and recently got hold of a speaker unit from an SB-3000. I want to make a woofer and have entered the TS parameters here from your video, for the speaker unit into the design program WinISD. I have calculated that an SB-3000 has a volume of about 44 litres. When I try to design a closed cabinet with 44 liters and the speaker unit with the parameters from your video I do not get the desired result. I get a result that says 50Hz at -3 dB. The specifications for the SB-3000 say 18 Hz +-3dB. Can there be DSP in the amplifier that can compensate for the difference?
@generationbehindhifi
@generationbehindhifi 5 месяцев назад
Absolutely. Just about all subwoofer manufacturers use some form of DSP to reach their desired frequency response.

@Paulscole3

Did you happen to have two of these drivers that you recently sold, and they were both making that clicking sound?...lol. I've been talking to a guy on Facebook Marketplace who had two of the SB-3000 drivers for sale, but he mentioned a similar problem to what you're dealing with. He was very upfront and honest about the noise and everything, so I very much appreciated the honesty. Someone else ended up buying them for the same purpose that I wanted them for, which was a DIY project, but I was curious to know if you were the one I was talking to?

It wasn't me. I still have mine because I'm thinking of doing a dissection video on my broken driver to see if we can determine what went wrong. I only have the one SB-3000. Two would be cool!

@Mike.Macmyazka 8 месяцев назад
Well I know it’s an odd size sub. 13 inch. So I would assume it has to be at least 35 pounds. I don’t think it looks like it’s too much heavier than that based on motor structure. I guess the question is how thick is the enclosure and how much bracing is there? The amp shouldn’t weigh much.
@generationbehindhifi

What’s your thoughts on the this SVS 3000 vs the REL 1205? Or is that comparison coming in a future video?
@generationbehindhifi
@generationbehindhifi 7 месяцев назад
Did you see my review on the REL 1205? In that review I refer to the HT1205 as the "poor mans SVS SB-3000". The REL HT 1205 is a great subwoofer for the money, but it has no where near the output, bass slam, and definition that the SB-3000 can produce and it shouldn't -- just compare the drivers between the two. The choice of drivers between these two subs is light years apart in terms of technologies, but the REL is a great value option if you want SB 3000 like performance on a shoe string budget. Hope this helps! :) Thanks for the suggestion! Maybe I should do a comparison between the two? Hmmm....
