We bought one of the 99 STP cars from Nichels in 1972 complete with a 429 Hemi in it. When we took the 4500 carburetor off it had 2 pcs. of safety wire you pulled and the rings fell out. Inside the tub manifold was a basket that caught the rings when the wire was pulled. This is the same car that Roy is restoring, and you all built the wedge motor for. In the old pictures there were 2 of these cars. One that Nichels took to the 71 Daytona 500 had White Nichels Decals. The One we bought had Black Nichels Decals. The fuel filler neck was farther back on the quarter panel on the black decal car. I look forward to Mondays. Thanks and god bless you all. JR Rich

This is just one example of the great ingenuity that the engine builders like Chief and the mechanics used in the early days and Golden Era of NASCAR. Too bad that NASCAR has snuffed out so much of that ingenuity with the current "buy the parts from certified vendors and assemble" cars that they have now mandated.
Chief made velocity stacks out of restrictor plates just like mini rocket nozzles. He could have worked for NASA! God bless y'all for bringing these stories to life.
Diggin that R.R. model. Props to Mark B. on the street sign. Man, that dominator must have gotten great fuel mileage😂 Every crew chief must have carried a pocket knife😜 Great info gentlemen. Keep um commin.
