A Lost Generation | Is London safe? 

Good talk, as an older guy, This is always been the way in London and big cities in England, I'm 60 year old and my younger brother lost his friends in the early 80s. Number of stabbing and shooting go up and down throughout the decades. Usually derived communities suffer more with this issue, eg some areas in Glasgow have had very high levels of crime. Glasgow use to be the most dangerous place in Europe. This issue has many sides to it. people killing or hurting you for looking at them, happened in my day. The major difference if the rate of stabbings and the major change in media access to hurtful materials, Ie. We have a set of youth who create music that is not helpful to the situation. in fact some of the killing are relating to the theme in drill music and grime. So we need to me more engaging with our young people in terms of music. Plus people growing up with parents who are busy working and have less time monitor there children. I think we also need to realise the 2 women per week get killed by there partner. The music context you mention, I made my comment before you got tot the part. so we agree on that. The reason people doing it at anytime is because nobody backs anybody when tough shit hits so they never really get stopped

Sadly I went to school with people with this mentality, one ended up in prison for 20+ years for shooting someone dead - I was in the same class as that guy😔 it's sad really. When I was 14, so many people my age were (are still) runners for dealers - they did it cos it was 'easy money' but I still know people stuck in the 'game'. They just got groomed by elders but once they realise its too late 💀

Renno I agree with you with the link with drill music to knife crime, but parents have to take more responsibility to provide a stable loving environment and good role models in their lives. The government needs to invest in the youth and provide mental health support when needed. This is a excellent topic that Is well overdue,it is refreshing to hear a young person’s point of view🙏

Very sad to see young people, their families and the whole society drawn into a swirl of crime and murder. It is great, to listen to your analysis of reasons and how to cope with / fight te situation to overcome this man-made horror.

You have said some good effective points there. Having potential young offenders visiting a prison to be exposed to the harsh realities of living in prison along with moderating drill music. Schools introducing councillors to support youths from troubled backgrounds who can empathise with their issues and behaviours. As these councillors need to be from the same demographic. The mayor has clearly not done enough. Over 150 youth murdered during 7 years of being in office. That's a very worrying fearful statistic. It's too disturbing that someone can get knifed at any time of day. These days it can happen on public transport and school/college. People are too savage to care about the setting of carrying out their attack!

Would the Windrush arrivals to the UK have thought that their children, grand children and great grandchildren be killing each other in this country, we have to do better. One Love❤

People stuck in the game will not listen to anyone, won't listen to their parents, teachers or people trying to help and they just see prison as a game for them. Broken homes are a major issue, single parents trying to work hard for their family working on zero hour contracts for some s****y companies (maybe working several jobs) mean that they are never home, they can't have control on what happens. Terrible living conditions are a major contributor.
