One of the reasons that I started this channel was to broaden my musical horizons and gain exposure to bands such as "Blind Guardian". I'm glad that I have had the chance to listen to "The Bard's Song" and "Valhalla" and I must admit......I was not blown away.
Let me know your thoughts!

Blind Guardian is a German power metal band. The band has been around for 39 years. Wacken is the premier metal music show. Every band in Europe wants to be on a Wacken stage. Bands have become popular (such as Bloodywood) simply from getting to play on a Wacken stage.

11:22 There is a reason why we don't raise the entire hand but only a finger or two here in Germany. Just think about it really hard. ;)

I was on a concert recently and it was so magical! Check out more Live stuff from then, it’s really all about the connection to the crowd

As already written: Wacken is a huge metal festival and the bards song is its hymn, once blind guardian was not there, but the bards song was played as background music and all people sang along, even as it was stopped the crowd just sung to the end. Therefore it's the (inofficial) hymn of wacken

They're chanting "Guardian" between the songs. At the end Hansi said "obrigado". I've seen these guys... so many times. Singing along to Bard's Song and Valhalla is tradition by now. Last time I saw them, we were standing in the rain singing Valhalla for several minutes after they got off stage until they came back and did an encore of it.

I don't know a lot about the band and don't usually listen to them, but I've rewatched this specific video quite a bunch of times. The songs are great, the musicians are very talented, but it's the crowd participation here that sets this apart. It's quite beautiful to watch! Blind Guardian is a German band, and the Wacken Festival is in Germany, so it's safe to assume they are speaking German. I obviously don't understand any of it, so yeah. About the lyrics, you are not wrong, it's quite hard to understand watching it for the first time. But the lyrics are amazing in these, so the crowd singing it all is also because of that. The Bard's Song: It's a song about a song. The Bard created it, but he has no name or even gender, and can be from any time period or location. And as a human, he has perished or will perish. His origin and destiny are not important. Sometimes the lyrics refer to a bard, sometimes to multiple. Even the bard's song itself can be interpreted as a single song or multiple songs. The most important part of this is: regardless of any of the above, the Bard's song will remain as something that represents the feelings, culture, or whatever else the bard makes it about. It will remain in the minds of the people that heard it, it will remain if other people learn to play it on an instrument and sing it, for generation after generation, just like a lot of well known songs from centuries ago that nowadays have any type of recording. It requires that people find the songs good enough to pass to the people close to them, and so on. The bard's songs are described as magic songs that make people comfortable and not afraid of whatever it is that is happening in their lives. Anyways, the lyrics are great, so listen to the studio version while reading, to feel the vibes. Valhalla: The lyrics obviously reference Norse mythology, but I myself don't know much about all the references it makes. The main chorus is a bit hard to understand, mainly because it's written in an unusual way: "Valhalla, deliverance Why've you ever forgotten me?" Anyways, I had to look up the meaning of the song and found a great analysis: "The lyrics of Valhalla tell the story of a brave warrior who has fallen in battle and finds himself at the gates of Valhalla, yearning to gain access to the glorious afterlife that awaits him. The song beautifully captures the emotions and desires of a warrior who longs for an honorable death and the chance to join the ranks of the fallen heroes in Valhalla. It intricately weaves together themes of valor, honor, and the pursuit of an eternal reward. Valhalla carries a powerful message of courage, honor, and the pursuit of glory. It inspires listeners to embrace their inner warrior, to face challenges head-on, and to strive for greatness. The song encourages individuals to live with valor and to leave a legacy worth remembering." Is this too much text? Yes it is. Anyways, great reaction, cheers!

Was that a lot of text? Yes. Did I read it all? Also, yes. Do I appreciate the time you put into that comment? 1000% yes. Thank you, very helpful!

@@JustJmax Well, the bard's song hold a lot of important meaning so I got carried away, that's what a bit of passion and free time does :)

Oh, reading my comment again, I remembered a perfect example of what I'm talking about. The song "House of the Rising Sun" was created a long time ago and an infinite number of artists made their own version and interpretations of it, and it turned into one of America's most recognizable folk songs. The RU-vid channel Polyphonic did an amazing analysis of the history of this song. It's really worth a watch!

This was a great song that immediately was an audience participation highlight when I saw them live in the nineties.

It's not just their casualness. Despide being a foundation stone of german heavy metal, the singer Hansi Kürsch is probably one of the least metal-looking singers I can think of.

@@JustJmax It's a joke. The song is so much part of their live setup. The one time they could not come to Wacken, The Bard Song got played over the video boards randomly and the whole Wacken festival stopped in their tracks, started singing it. It's German's metal heads "The Minstrel Boy" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RJudJ9S579A.html

Imho stretching only 2 fingers is just a "safety habit". If he would accidentally raise his right arm with a flat hand (I hope you get the point here) it could be misunderstood and even become a legal issue (said gesture is illegal in Germany).

Ehh i mean as a german you shouldn't hold up more than two fingers when you signal to a crowd - especially if it's your right hand ( a fist is okey i guess) ... Ya know we have to be careful otherwise some people would interpret something sinister behind a gesture like that ! And when i say some people i mostly mean other Germans, we are really careful about symbols and gestures that could be regarded as something close to our WW2 history ( We learn about WW2 and the atrocities our forefathers are responsible for pretty much 24/7, so i guess Hansi has to be careful too). And no it's not cancel culture, it's actually a crime in Germany to do a salute, which is close to the Nazi thingy ! Even if you never had the intention, you still could get fined for it and be branded a Nazi, especially in the social media day of age ... Okey enough rambling from me ! Great reaction tho !

I have heard how seriously the German people take their history and try to learn from it, as a non-German (American) I often wish that our culture was more open to taking critical looks at what we have done historically. Instead, it seems we pretend it didn't happen or attempt to justify it somehow. Thanks for sharing!
