That was an amazing episode. The writing, the characters and the acting is SO good. Nothing compares.

@@TrophyReacts Totally agree with you. I watched the 1980 miniseries, so have an idea where this goes and, while I love the original, this remake is truly astonishing. Historical accuracy, production, acting, writing. Everything really. They outdid themselves and like you, I wish for al of it to come out now.

This show is better than I expected. The attention to detail is amazing, the whole cast is wonderful, but Rodrigues is on another level.

The person who was the model for Buntaro was Tadaoki Hosokawa. Mariko's model is Gracia Hosokawa. Although he was strong in battle, he loved his wife Gracia so much that he had many anecdotes about going crazy.

21:00 - You can delete this if you feel it and I am sure it will be covered at some point but "Hatamoto", without being too in-depth is a really high ranking Samurai that operates directly to the leader. Its essentially like a high ranking Officer position in the Army and as far as I know its one of, if not, thee highest roles you can get as a vassal.

Mariko's character is Hosokawa Tama Gracia whose father was the best General of previous leader called ODA Nobumaga. Taiko and Toranaga were colleague under ODA as General. Mariko's father was extremely well educated and faithful to only one wif e. Connected to Emperor's Palace. ODA was Tyrant and gifted but very cruel character.

Mariko's character is based on Hosokawa Gracia which is Christian name and she became Christian after father's death. Her husband was famous for excellent and able Bushi, also a master of tea ceremony.

she's the daughter of the Oda's retainer and assassin, Akechi Mitsuhide. she probably met Yasuke, tho.

@@m33p0 He killed ODA but not for himself whose character had a sense of justice for the Emperor and Japan. He had most compassionate feeling towards people. Most educated in the General of ODA Army .

Most of all Akechi was honorable human being. Noblesse oblige he was , nothing like Taiko Toyotomi, very cunning lowest character

Hosokawa Gracia's father is Akechi Mitsuhide, the rebel who killed Oda Nobunaga. Nobunaga was by far the most popular samurai in Japan, and it is still unknown why Akechi killed Nobunaga, which is considered the greatest mystery of this period. In addition, recent historical research has revealed that one of Nobunaga's famous atrocities in one of his episodes, the burning of Mount Hiei, was exaggerated. It is now being suggested that Nobunaga himself may have been using propaganda to portray himself as ruthless.

Curious, does watching a few shows at a time make it easier to get through them all, I was always a one at a time guy, but of late I’ve been struggling to stick with a show which I’m solely watching. Just wondered if taking on a couple and rotating them may be a better fit? Anyone got any opinion on this?

I only do this personally because I do reactions, I wanted to have a variety of shows going at any given time, when I watch shows off camera though it’s typically one at a time, just depends on the type of show though really!

I currently watch 17 shows, mostly anime😅 I must say I like that much better, instead of waiting for a full release and then binge it(when it comes to ongoing shows!). Binging is fine, but I don't want to wait months until a show is fully released. Going for one ep per week keeps my interest up and I can make up therories how it will continue. About getting better through them hm, maybe for some might that be good, since they can concentrate on another plot then and come back when they feel rdy to continue. I have no problems switching series after I finished an episode. Since they all are interesting, I can easily dive back in with the story and characters, but tbh I think you can mess up or forget some names if you're not watching in a row. Has it's pros and cons and I think no approach is better or worse. Some has to finish a series before they start a new one- even if it's one ep per week release. Other people can switch to another show/anime very easily, doesn't matter how many episodes you have watched and how many you currently follow. Personally when it comes to ongoing shows I mostly watch the 'one per week ep' the day or the following one, sometimes wait a week so I have two. But when it comes to already fully released shows I watch them til the end or until something ruins the show completely(barely happens) and don't surch for another completed show next to it. Hope my thoughts aren't confusing tho :D

What happened to Lady Kiri and the other girl? I realize Lady swapped places with.. the lord guy? Where's the girl, i thought she was instructed to travel with them.. all that was a bit confusing

Fuji, the other girl, stayed with them, you can see her on the ship when Blackthorne says that they're all gonna die. Lady Kiri stayed in Osaka with Toranaga's other consort, the young pregnant woman.

Nah. Its "okay-ish". The original adaptation with TOSHIRO MIFUNE, was a masterpiece. This is just "okay-ish". And only for people who see THIS first. Surface over substance. The original isnt in HD though, and nowaday, thats all that matters apparently. The OLD actors do a good job. Storywise, its a good tale. And the actress that plays Mariko ? Well, she should probably practice more. On well... EVERYTHING THAT AN ACTRESS SHOULD KNOW. Except how to play a sullen arrogant little girl. That she seems to have "method acted" into her very core, to the point that I cant tell if the "character" is leaking into her private life, or the actresses personality, views and opinions "leaking" into the character. Either scenario, would be most unfortunate. If its the first, she should go se a psychologist. If its the latter, maybe a different line of work would be in order ? She does know that her role is to play LADY MARIKO TODA, right? Not a centuries past, version of "Lady Anna Sawai of the upturned nose kingdom"/ herself ??? She seems to portray HER OPINIONS on Mariko-san, and what SHE thinks Mariko-san should feel and do, rather than studying and you know, ACTUALLY PLAYING THE CHARACTER, WITHOUT PRECONCEIVED NOTIONS AND GETTING TO KNOW HER CHARACTER/ROLE. It is not her place to judge, it is her JOB to PLAY the character, and win her audience. She was handed a role that should have been a dream role for ANY actress. Her opportunity to shine, and show what she was truly made of. She squandered it.
