Welcome to the Beyond the Scope Podcast presented by ND MD. This podcast continues the mission of sharing the incredible stories and experiences of students, physicians, and healthcare professionals...but this time it's all about the things all those years of medical training doesn't prepare you for. Things that are beyond the scope of our practice. Whether it's navigating starting a family as a medical student or physician, or learning how to invest as a student, the goal is to bring on incredible guests who can guide you through those puzzling questions. Today we have two familiar faces on the channel, Mr. and Mrs. Dr. Rutkowski! Cleverly titled "A Match Made in Medicine," this physician couple is an excellent example of how it is possible to balance the busy lives of a neurologist and a neurosurgeon while even taking care of a new member to the family. Their empowering advice to future physicians considering a relationship with someone in the healthcare field is a must listen to. Thank you so much to the Rutkowski's for being an amazing part of this channel and if you are interested in neurosurgery, check out Dr. Martin Rutkowski on RU-vid @martinrutkowskimd3709

A lot of men act this way and have exactly this mindset. I've come to find out it's usually the highly educated men who think and act this way. I've stopped looking for partners who aren't educated and have come to find: the more educated a man / a person is, the better their morals and more respectful behavior towards women. With that being said, this isn't ALWAYS the case, but I've found myself surrounded by much more respectful men after surrounding myself with those who are more educated / as educated as i am

I cannot imagine being raised by 2 doctors. That child will be challenged and brilliant for sure
@americanbobtail1
@americanbobtail1 2 года назад
Not necessarily. I know of cases where kids were raised by two MD's, who focused too much on their careers and had way too high expectations for their children. One of them had a horrible relationship with his parents, especially his deceased father. Knowing him he would of been a lot better off with working class parents that could actually raise and mentor him, instead of parents too focused on their careers having grandiose expectations for their children without follow-up. Actions have consequences....

@crunchychicken2

@@DavdBlack No one said anything against medicine. They're all talking about the negative outcomes they've witnessed of being a child growing up with parents who have an unnaturally demanding job. To be a doctor you have to go through next level schooling with years of grueling training to be the person that save literal lives. It's a highly respected, beautiful profession to take on that responsibility but it doesn't take away from the point that some doctors don't make the best parents and the children are stuck with that.

I love that, in the middle of medical school, you are both taking time to make this video and the rest of the content on your channel. While I’m sure it’s something you enjoy apart from the grind of studying, it takes work to prepare and edit these videos. It’s not like you’re shooting these on iPhones and using camera mics, either. I think the amount of work and intentionality you’re putting into the content-allowing us the privilege of looking into the lives of medical professionals in a more personal way-speaks to the way you are setting groundwork now for the kind of physicians you will both be in the future. Your patients will no doubt be privileged to have you guys as their doctors. You both truly care and are eager to better yourselves. I hope you never lose that! Oh, and this couple is awesome. Stoked to see an interview with them together. Absolute legends.

I’ve had personal experience on the patient side of things interacting and being cared for by my neurologist in office, virtual video visits, & hospital multiple day stay for epilepsy testing. Definitely grateful for my neurologist, hospital epilepsy care team, ( super stars ✨ are the nurses! ❤) , and the amazing care I experienced when going thru the most uncertain, scary, & terrifying situations of experiencing the worst seizures in my life multiple times per day. They kept me safe while keeping me present, grounded, and always reassuring when it was really difficult. ❤❤❤ The journey is far from over but at least I have an amazing medical team to help me thru it! 😊

Very good questions. Martin and Elizabeth gave thoughtful, honest answers. As physicians and former residents, they've seen a lot of suffering and as a married couple and parents, have grown in empathy for their patients and each other. I hope they'll be blessed with more children. They are a kind couple.

My parents were both physicians and we suffered immensely because they put professionalism and Service to Humanity above all else. we did OK with our friends and the occasional parent getting a few hours to come home during the day. But we were always reminded our family existed for the better good of the suffering masses and as children we could also sacrifice so that sick people and people in pain could be taken care of. And once they retired my parents planned to make it all up to us. Unfortunately, when we were in high school the medical evacuation jet they were on crashed .

Viewing 2 doctors in the same field of work a husband & wife team my eyes were clued to the screen. Listening to questions being asked of them and then answered, was satisfying because; of the wives absolute honesty. The husband is equally supportive and totally honest. Work related questions then away from work questions. Having a supportive family with their 11 month baby👶 takes priority from mum to the carer. Detail that becomes everyday life. This husband & wife spoke of variables and work attune with life self gratification is visible to the eye as a viewer. Healthy outcomes tying it together if it breaks down years of experience with partner advice gently putting you in a safer frame of mind.❤❤😊

I think this is a great explanation of how they navigate two very demanding careers. Although my takeaway is that they are very fortunate that their extended families were willing to uproot their own lives and be such a huge support system for them when it comes to taking care of/raising their son. Most people are not that fortunate and will also have to navigate childcare in a much more complicated way.

I figured they were a couple/married from their indiv interviews. have always wished to see them both in 1vid too... so this is really amazing, and they are amazing! thx for doing this for real 😍 I always wanted to spec. in neuro when i was in med school before... and tho i have stopped med on my 3rd yr and havent gotten back since for years now, i know i still have that lil thing bout it left inside. and this is making me very happy ☺
