Sharing a medley of compositions from a concert in 2017. These compositions threaded themselves in a sequence that was not planned before, in a manner that surprised us pleasantly as we presented them. As it happens sometimes, the magic of the moment and the location finds its way into the music, somehow.
Sung here first, are a couple of stanzas from a poem: pAyum oli nee enakku - by the celebrated Tamil renaissance writer Sri Subramania Bharati. In its immediate appeal, it is a strikingly beautiful love poem. In the larger context, the poem speaks of the eternal tug between inspiration and expression. The evocatively longing music, based on Raga Mand over Adi (Tishra) is a composition by Sri Rajkumar Bharati.
Flowing into it is a Devaranama: allide namma mane, Illi bande summane, - by Saint Sri Purandaradasa. The sahitya uses the metaphor of our dear homes, to remind us what our real haven is. It calls for devotion and piety, in place of worldly greed and possession. This devaranama has been composed to a tune based on Raga Rageshri, Tala Adi (Tishra), by Smt. M D Pallavi.
