My daughter passed away from cancer. She was 17 years old. His baseball career was meaningless, next to the joy that he gave the kids at the jimmy Fund. Careers come and go, but your love, will endure forever.
My deepest condolences too you both, my mom passed from stomach cancer in February 2011, when mom got sick it caused my pops to have a broken heart and he passed shortly after mom did
RIP Tim and Stacy Wakefield. I wept while watching this. Watched and went to a ton of Red Sox games growing up as I don't live far away from Boston. Year in and year out there was always that constant in the pitching rotation, Wakefield. Feels like I lost an uncle even tho I never met him.
They must retire His Number at once & let some other player wear the number 21. He was as great as both a pitcher & humanitarian as any other baseball player could be. ⚾⚾
@@marcstevens8576Since knuckleballers have a thing towards that number, I would rather they didn't retire it, but only let a knuckleballer wear it. But, at the same time, there's really no more knuckleballers😢. About #21... Totally agree.
Tim lived in the same town as my parents. One day in 2013, I went to the theater with my mom and noticed Tim standing in the lobby. I ran out to the car to get a baseball out of my backpack and asked him to sign it. I told him that as a Yankees fan, he was always a joy to watch pitch. He was extremely gracious and kind and signed my ball with a smile. RIP Tim and Stacy Wakefield
Beautiful tribute. Tim Wakefield passed from the same form of cancer (GBM) that took my husband, and that will forever connect them in my mind and in my heart. RIP Tim and Stacy Wakefield, and may God bless Brianna and Trevor.
As a Yankees fan since 1977, I remain heart-broken for this double loss. Life sometimes simply isn't fair, but the legacy we all leave behind is reflective in how we lived while we lived. And he and his wife lived well, honorably and honestly. I hope there is an afterlife where they are free of the bodies that betrayed them, and I hope their kids remain strong in navigating a world without their parents. Much love from all Yankees fans.
Been a Sox fan since I was a kid back in the 1970's. Wake is one of my favorite players ever. I LOVED watching him pitch. What a man too, he and his wife were beautiful people.
As a baseball fan, the story of 2004 Red Sox ending their 86 year drought, after a 3-0 ALCS series comeback over arch rival Yankees, is the best story in modern day baseball. And it's not remotely close.
A life long Oriole fan I could not get through five minutes of this before the tears came. I almost wish we had lost the game today. Wake was everything you want in a player and a person. Gone to soon he and Brooks can talk baseball now. Both Tim and Stacy were such nice people and that damn Cancer just does not care.
While I got through this video, albeit, barely without 😢 like a baby, I couldn't help it during the pregame ceremonies when I watched them on MLB Network. I almost completely lost it when Tim and Stacy's children, Trevor, and Brianna walked out onto the field, and Brianna threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Jason Veritek. You can DEFINITELY see and feel the love they received from Wake's former teammates, especially Pedro, Tek, Trot Nixon, and Mike Timlin. They, along with the Wakefield family will help in ANYWAY the can to help them. not j😢during the mext few months, but always. RIP, Tim and Stacy Wakefield. 😪🥲❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️⚾️😇
As a long time, life long, Yankees fan, I was extremely sad to hear of his passing. A true competitor and a class act. And for his wife to lose her battle so soon afterwards I can only say I will pray for your family, go with Gods Speed Tim and Stacy
Tim Wakefield was the man and contributed so much and was a huge part of the Sox and bringing home the World Series!! Thank you Wake and may you always RIP you have def left your mark here!!
Grew up watching him and that distinctive knuckle ball all throughout the 90s, watching him play against the Yanks. I’m a grown man now and so, I truly hope him and his wife are resting peacefully.
When Wake passed away I heard it reported that Stacy was also ill. Until watching this video I did not know she had passed as well. There are no words to convey what Tim meant to the club and to Red Sox fans everywhere, and there are no words to describe the tragedy of them both dying so young. Thanks to Terry Francona for this. Just sitting here crying now.
I opened up a box that's been in my attic for 30+ years. The items were wrapped in the newspaper of the day. One of the newspaper wrappers was the August 1992 sports page of the Albany times union. In it was an article about the Pittsburgh pirates new knuckleball pitcher Tim Wakefield. Being a diehard sox fan this was like finding an old silver dollar in your backyard. Ill frame it and add it to my Red Sox shrine.
Nice video, Tito. Watching Wake pitch was always a rollercoaster ride but he never made excuses when he got shelled and never gloated when he won. MLB could use more like him today instead of these overpaid hotdogs running around the bases doing dances, flapping their arms and just trying to grab more attention to themselves. MLB is too chickensh*t to address this.
I grew up on die hard Yankee fan and I had the pleasure of playing against Tim Wakefield in high school in 1984. he was at Eau gallie High School I was at Palm Bay High School in Florida . I remember when he went to play for Florida institute of technology he was a star all the way around in high school and college and in the pros. rest in peace Timmy.
