I think the part where the video says their end product is identical, I would beg to differ. They have almost the same goalscoring record, but Messi's efficiency surpasses CR7s by a country mile. At their peak, Ronaldo would have more shots available to him than Messi being the fact he plays more as a target man. But Messi would only need a sniff of a chance to convert. The shot-to-goal ratio of Messi is far superior to CR7 and that should tell you who is the better finisher.
I hate the fact that old players like Ronaldinho, Zidane, Garrincha, Maradona, Cryuff weren't considered as legends or even GOATs during the time for their goals or assists but for how they owned in the pitch, but when it comes to Messi now, a lot of people reduce Messi down solely into his stats. Ofcourse he is statistically better than everyone in stats but he still has the magic factor. What if someone like Haaland actually get better stats by banging goals and people from the next generation thinks he's better just because Messi was unfairly reduced to just stats? People are even comparing Messi to Mbappe based on stats now even if 9/13 goals Mbappe scored were Messi assists this season and no one would remember it in the future incase Mbappe gets better stats, which I don't think will happen because Messi at 24 scored 91 goals and Mbappe even if he is leading now will have lesser goals than Messi having played more matches by next December. Certain stuff these old legendary magicians like Ronaldinho, Garrincha, Zidane did weren't even on the stats because their play might result in a goal but might not even be an actual assist right? Also football is a team game afterall anyone's mistake can result in a miss afterall but that doesn't mean the player contributing a pass didn't do his part, he did it perfectly there too. If they check stats for that like goals and assists then being called football legends would make no sense especially comparing to Ronaldo and Messi's stats in Europe. And after all od this, he scores goals against and competes with goalscoring legends like Ronaldo, Pele etc. Ronaldo is compared to Messi only with stats because passionate fans wanted to keep Ronaldo equal to Messi by showing stats, which looks good for Ronaldo in the eyes of a casual who watches highlights. But with that logic, like I said, Ronaldinho, Zidane, Iniesta, Cruyff etc would never be legends because stats wise they aren't as good, longetivity wise too! Even Ronaldo and Suarez has more assists than Iniesta because they are in the attacking 3. It's sad that media forgets to look at Messi's magic that is similar to all these legends while comparing him to literally anyone. They just check stats like robots. A robot would call Ronaldo's individual stats comparable to Messi, but has humans, we have the brain and logic to understand so much more than the final output, Messi's gamesense, decisions, how he creates a chance out 0% chance (like the pass against Netherlands and the goals where he dribble 5-6 players) should be more thought of. But the insane part is Ronaldo as of now has 142 games more than Messi and still only has SIXTEEN GOALS MORE. Ronaldo played 142 games and 16 goals even if Messi competes with all other dedicated attacking roles simultaneously! So maybe Ronaldo will score so much in Saudi and keep the goals record but as of now even a robot would say Messi's stats are better even if they reduce it to just stats which is also so crazy to me? So I hope when someone praises Messi later on, they put some weight on the fact that Messi isn't just stats, isn't just assists or goals and has the same magic factor the legends who didn't have impressive stats on paper. Basketball, specially NBA Basketball, is well known as being a very statistically driven sport, the most "nerdish" one even over other popular sports such as hockey, baseball, cricket, or rugby. Tbh I can’t understand why there is/ was a debate between Messi and Ronaldo being the 🐐. Messi’s game is in so many ways superior it isn’t even close. Only their goal scoring numbers are similar and when you look at that it doesn’t stack up either as Ronaldo has played more games as he’s older. The only player that should be in the GOAT debate with Messi is Pele 👑, but personally I think Messi just edges him due to the efficiency of his moves but it’s hard to differentiate due to different pitch conditions/ weight of the ball 🏀, physical conditioning etc 🤷♀️
