Been using hobo 5 years for daily journal, nolty for personal planning & B6 stalogy for work. But missing my TN & collaging. Re-thinking in progress 😅

I am the biggest procrastinator. I started off journaling well in January, stopped and didn’t realize it was already June. Sigh. I have been wanting to do a lot of creative journaling but the biggest obstacle is not having a desk. When I don’t see all my things in one place, it only further discourages me and I end up forgetting I have to do it.

Buy a lap desk. There’s a cushion on the bottom for your lap and a hard surface on top for your journal or books. You can use it on the sofa or in the bed. This will allow you to at least open your journal, lay it flat and begin to use it again. Put your supplies in a little basket, pouch or bowl next to you and enjoy. I have a desk, but sometimes just want to be on the sofa or in my bed and create. I love using it to lay my Bible flat and read in bed. I got mine for 30 bucks at TJ Maxx. Hope this helped.

I also started doing a small pocket size journal while I’m on trips to jot down what I did so when I get back, I can remember everything for my more complicated memory keeping journal! It’s a lot less pressure and I know I’ll have everything I need when I have more time and supplies around to work on documenting the trip in a more presentable, re-readable way. It’s also helpful for catching up in my Hobonichi 5-year, which I don’t take with me on trips. My journals and planners have been serving me very well this year so far. I have a lot going at once that each have a different purpose/approach, but I don’t update them all as often. They’re there for me when I’m in the mood for that style and it’s always fun when I have renewed energy for a journal I haven’t used in a while.

I wonder what you think about the jibun. I recall that was your work planner (?) of sorts. Planning to switch to jibun next year but the traveller’s notebook seems more flexi!

It’s not my favorite 😭 I realized I no longer use time blocking! I’ll have to make a work related planner video soon! I think TN is more flexi definitely!

sadly no! Only during the new and full moons. I no longer decorate it as well...it's just pages at the back of my Hobonichi Weeks!

It's absolutely to wild that it's already mid year review time 😅 Loved seeing how you're changing up your travel journal/regular tn, I'm planning on using my regular tn for travelling journalling from july forward and now I'm very tempted to try this weekly insert you mentioned 👀👀👀

Love the color of that Leuchtturm! May I ask if you prefer Leuchtturm or Rhodia for fountain pens?

Oooh such a tricky question! I think Rhodia's paper is smoother and more buttery than Leuchtturm. I haven't tried anything fr Rhodia except the Webnotebook, but honestly both is fine with me! I just prefer Leuchtturm because there are a lot of color options :)

Hi Abbey! I love watching your videos. I have the same Leuchtrum in orange. It is a summery color. I tried out a Midori a6 size notebook similar to traveler notebooks and didn’t like it. The paper wasn’t as enjoyable to write with fountain pens on so I went back to a Leuchtrum. I have a Hobonichi A5 and really have enjoyed using it so far. Although I find I either write in the weekly pages or the daily’s but don’t use both as often.

Hey Brittany! Thanks for watching :) I reeaally love the Leuchtturm for fountain pen writing; it seems to hold ink well, right? For TNs it's fine; I like it with the MD cream (or white) paper. But glad you are able to find journals that you've been enjoying. It's always the best part! re: Hobonichi, I had the same problem when I used my Cousin in 2021. But I want to go back to Avec for my work planner next year! Will share updates when Hobonichi goes live this September~

Hey Abbey! Just FYI Field Notes says that that particular yellow set has paper that is more fountain. pen friendly than their other sets. I haven't tested it myself but there are a few videos on RU-vid showing the difference. (It still doesn't look great to me, but definitely better!)

Oh cool! Thanks for letting me know, Sarah! Will definitely test it out. I remember the ink feathering on the regular Field Notes so ever since that I've always just stuck with using a ballpoint pen to avoid any feathering and ghosting :)) Will find some review videos too!

been a while since I've watched your videos! and the journals game is darn too strong as always! the hobo weeks, and the diarist/a5 creative journal have served me well so far. gonna retire hobo a6 as art journal and instead i'm currently recording my works on it. and i'm more of sketchbooks person, since i have a sketchbook just for drafts and another for mixed media. phew, what a ride for this year so far1

I definitely need to reassess my journals. I started off fine with an a6 hobo planner for memory keeping but then I added on a 5 year journal from leuchtturm and I have my hobo weeks for planning and a b6 Galen leather notebook for my morning pages. My life got pretty busy so I’ve been struggling to keep up with everything. I’m thinking to either use a standard TN for memory keeping just fun events next year or maybe switch to the hobo cousin and use the weeklies for memory keeping and stickering and the dailies for journaling. I’m struggling with the decisions though and it’s only June 😅. Loved seeing what you’ve been using and enjoying though!

Haha, it's totally fine to struggle once in awhile! Life definitely gets in the way and it can be overwhelming. Have you considered using more undated journals/planners? That way you don't have to update everything diligently; I figured that's what worked best for me with regards to my journals and planners. Also! Remember that you can always switch up your journals and what their purpose/s are if they no longer serve you :) Good luck with them! It's part of the process!

Thank you for sharing Abbey! :) I miss journaling. I haven’t written in my diarist journal for 2 months now. :( But having watched your video, I am excited to go back. My goal was to finish the pages in my diarist journal by midyear. But I don’t think I won’t be able to.. maybe next month! 😅 My problem is, I wanted another diarist journal for the second half of the year but I’m not sure where I will be able to get one! Any recos? The shop reopens in September. Please wait by then. Thanks! I think it's quite unrealistic to finish the entire Diarist journal in 6 months...unless you do it every day. I made the journal good for one year. Other customers stocked up on the first release to make sure they had extra. You can consider doing that next time too!

@@AbbeySy Haha. I started writing in the diarist journal when I got it in October last year. And I was pretty consistent in my daily entries since then until around Feb. So I thought I'd finish it by June this year (just in time to start a fresh journal midyear hehe). Anyway, yeah, I realized that too - that I should've gotten two! :) Will wait for September! Haven't really found any other notebook that compares to the diarist 🥺 So I'll be waiting :)

Field Notes are so great - I love their different cover designs… but I have a hard time with their size. I never know what to do with them!

Haha I super agree :)) they don't fit in the TNs either :)) It's mostly the notebook I just leave on my desk for quick notes! I think it fits pockets well, but I never put notebooks in my pockets...

Have you ever found yourself starting on a notebook and abandoning it just because the appeal of it dulled on you? I am in that funk, and what’s worse is I continue to purchase new ones… and now, they all are just stashed. Any advise to get going, and keep going?

Yessss but I've mostly learned from it! Taking note of your personal preferences (size, paper type, dotted/grid/lined/blank) will help you figure out what you can get in the future. Another tip is to reuse the notebook and assign a different purpose for it, so that you don't get compelled to keep buying new ones and/or stocking up on too much :)
