Cracking Video yet again Simon...New boots the old ones looked like they had years left in them...Leaning on frosty bales without a moan...Thats the first time ive not seen you smooth the fox and say sorry...I really thought you had missed (As If) when he took off at full pelt but a perfect shot...Happy Hunting.............
Thank you Jenko much appreciated also i was commenting on another video you commented on and my laptop went off and i can't find it now so if you see a comment i wrote and you think what am i on about a didn't get to finish what i was writing lol.
Hi Simon I went to two of my ratting permissions yesterday morning instead of night time just to see if they were about Not one but the beautiful small birds I saw was amazing Made a real change and came home really happy and relaxed and hadn't even taken a shot Lovely to see 👍
Thanks for sharing this and all your videos. I enjoy coming along for the ride. I have two varmint rifles I dabble with…a 220 Swift and a 222. Hope Jack is still doing well!!
Ye thanks Charles i have used the 220 Swift years ago and it did pack a punch for a .22 bullet just ended up with a 22.250 at the time but they all shoot well in the right hands i suppose.
Always look forward to seeing your content, Simon. Professionalism should always be the benchmark in this line of work. And you never fail showing that level towards your quarry. Treat Jack to a juicy marrow filled bone for this festive season.
That Hartley The hair is one lucky furry creature 🤣🤣I'm showing my age cause I remember the show Pipkins🤣🤣that was a kind of a weird and creepy show when I think about it 🤣🤣Anyway great shooting Simon, another one bites the dust 😃😃 that Scope is a nice piece of kit, I was well impressed by it.. Catch you on your next adventure 👍🤘👌
When you zeroed in it didn't look like winter but then you were on the bales in the frosty cold. No gloves and makin sure ole Mr. fox leaves the livestock alone! Great shooting all the way through, but that's your signature. Great job Simon!
I'd say your rifle was bang on. It's been rainy here ever since the start of Sept. Only a few days with sun. I see you had some snow on the bales. We're due for some tomorrow. Well done as always on the hunt.
Try bag shooting, vs bipod. The groups will have a "fingerprint" like the ones you shown for bipod, and something different for bag shooting. Sometimes its the expansion of the heated barrel that changes POI (like my old stevens 200 in .223 which would shoot low and right as it heated up), but I first discovered the bipod pattern while shooting .22 PCP.
Nice one, image through that scope is very clear. I've been wanting to try 40gr vmax but can't get hold of them anywhere I've tried. Getting on well though with the 53gr vmax in my tikka so will probably just stick with, had a fox only last night with great results.
Always check your gear beforehand especially when you have different setups. Nice shot and you were spot on with his exit. This is a very as similar trait when deer hunting in the US. They will run 50 to 75 yards before they drop. OBTW - How is Jack doing?
Wonderful work Simon. Exemplary shooting as usual. Maybe I’m standing on thin ice here , but I do wish you and Jack all the best for the seasonal rest of this year. ❤. R
mate, both of those groups were more than fine. that would be a fast round in the 223. i use 55gn super roo's or also known as game kings reloads. we need a bit of a solid hit in Australia for some larger animals, but work fine on foxes. nice hunting. got a call to a property where they cleaned up 16 foxes over 2 days, now need thermal an ir to get the clever ones, which is where i come in.
Howdo lad!! Another fab video and you seem so much comfortable talking to the camera, feels very natural!! Hope tha's well and family too. Owz Jack?? xxx
Aye, comes that time when every morning the olduns seem to have aged overnight 😳 My oldest , Dan, he's 11 next June. Twas my first show dog, a toy poodle. He's still fit as fiddle, only 2 teeth left! But he's still got it!! Am I ok?? Well, I'll not bore you with that, not on here anyroad up!! xxx
😎👏😊saludos mr simon desde chile muy buena jornada de caza los disparos de noche siempre son dificiles aun que se tenga miras termicas e infrarojas por ĺa distorsion de la percepcion de distancia un abrazo amigo
As always a really great vid and fully admire and respect your ethics towards shooting quarry and making sure the shot taken is the right one, something every shooter should do. Mate you have some fantastic rifle set-ups, always enjoy seeing them. Hope that Jack is ok, all the best to you both.
As usual its a plesure to whatch yor videos. I also use the 223 40gr vmax for Fox control, it's the most accurate bullet for my Cz. I really appreciate the flat trajectory you can get with such a light bullet in the 223. On the other hand I think "50 yard runners" can happen more frequently than using the 55 grains. In a clear field you can easily track the shot fox, but when shooting near dense vegetation it can be difficult to recover it.

Good stuff again Simon. After a bit of advice, I’ve bought yesterday a Pard 007SP LRF , I’ve put it on the Schmidt Bender 6x42 scope that’s on my BSA R12. Had it out today for first time and finding it difficult to focus on anything below 50m and loose the cross hair. Is the scope 6x base mag too high. What would you recommend. I want to do some ratting so all be within 30m I’d think. Regards Phil
Hiya, you’re correct in assuming your base magnification is too high. Even 4x plus the pard is a bit impractical if you’re ratting within 30m. I bought a Hawke Airmax 2-7 for this exact purpose, it’s not an expensive scope and on my pcp it’s nice and light and perfect for an add-on like the nv007. Hope this helps!
@@kims2r Cheers, yes that’s a big help, the scope came off my .223 when I got NV for that a couple of years ago. Only got my R12 in September, it’s in FAC format and scope has been fine but nothing is usually close up. Just getting into a bit more shorter stuff and learning more about optics 👍
Ye Phil the Pards all work better on the cheaper end scopes on the market pal and as above with the smaller the base mag the better BUT! some times if you play with the two focus settings you can get them clear even on say a Night force or Swarovski as i have in the past.
Simon, what velocity are you shooting those 40 grain V-MAXs at in your 223? I was wondering if the rotational stress of the 8” twist barrel would pull those V-MAXs apart?
They are doing around 3600 at the moment Charles and believe it or not shoot under half inch at 100 yards but ye they are spinning fast out this 8 twist and do pop very easily but i like this due to hardly any ricochets and no pass throughs making the shooting a lot safer pal.
Simon, I’m guessing you jump those 69 TMKs in your Sako 223. If you are, would you mind saying how far? I generally shoot flat base bullets just touching the rifling but I never could get boat-tail bullets to shoot well doing this. I’m betting you are jumping those 69 TMKs .040” or so…? Am I close?
Ye both do the same job to be fair but me personally think the TD70 has the edge at distance at night BUT! being honest the Alpex has the edge with a better picture closer up due to its base mag being smaller
@@simon6ppc246 thank you for your reply! Are you happy with it? I’ve got the standard IR that came with the infiray but need something with a bit more power
