Thanks for commenting Alice. Born and raised in Kuching myself too. I can only imagine your situation of 44 years. Been four years I last visited Kuching and a lot have changed. Having said that, there are also things that seemed to have frozen in time. A truly remarkable town.
LOL, when did Padungan become the old town of Kuching. I thought it was the area around India Street, Main Bazaar, Gambier and Carpenter Streets, the Post Office, Central Police Station and Central Padang. Then there are the Electra House and Courthouse. Etc, etc.
Hi RU, you are technically right. That’s what my parents and grandparents would refer to as “Lao pa sak”. I would still consider Padungan an old town given its history and significance. Maybe not as old as the places you have referred to. Thanks for stopping by with a comment.
@@journeywiththejongs I suspect its because these areas now fall into the governance of Kuching North City Hall. I'll let you decide why Chinatown is now Padungan, instead of the areas I mentioned. Googling can be so much fun.
