Your story of being on watch during Thanksgiving reminds me of the Marines at the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. The Brass thought it'd be a great morale boost to serve the Marines on the front and brought all the fixings without taking into account how cold the Korean winter can get. By the time the Marines would file out of the mess tent with their tray of food it'd be frozen solid! It was not uncommon to find a Marine in his foxhole with a turkey leg from Thanksgiving defrosting in his pocket all the while keeping his eyes on the line!
I'd absolutely recommend more videos by Max in the Tasting History series. Specifically his 4-part series on the various classes of the Titanic and what they had for meals.
Both Max Miller and Drachinifel have done videos on the US Navy's ice cream ship during WWII, with Max doing an actual recipe for a banana ice cream (made from powdered milk and powdered eggs, of course).
Max does a great job. I started watching him the 3rd video he did during the 2019 crap, you gotta admit someone making recipes over a thousand years old has balls. He worked at disney at the time and was on furlough, his shit on a shingle video is good too.
The other version of "British tea time" that I heard was when the British tank columns are on the move in France during WW2, they stopped for a tea time break and the Germans saw them having a nice jolly tea time and then ambushed them, with their Panthers I believe Just like you said, Good intentions with bad intelligence
If I could recommend any other videos on tasting history, may suggest his recipe on banana nut ice cream, or perhaps his takes on Viking Mead worthy of a Space Wolf.
Is there some way to reqest videos for you to react to mostly because I would really like to see your reaction to the videos drachinifel made on admiral Ernest king and admiral willis Augustus lee since you Are a navy veteran
