Hypothesis on the Relation to Venous Disease and Lipedema. The Saphenous compartment.
At the 2022 of the American Venous and Lymphatic Society, Dr José Luis Simarro shared his new comprehensive theory on the cause of lipedema.
The theory incorporates new understandings of anatomy, physiology and immune system biology to
explain Lipedema as Subchronic Sub-compartmental Syndrome of saphenous and peri-saphenous tissue.
Dr Simarro shares new insights and current understanding of adipose anatomy, venous and lymphatic physiology and interaction with adipose tissue and the immune system. Anatomy of layers of adipose tissue is described and the anatomy of the superficial Lymatic and Sapheous Veins and Saphenous Compartment are described.
Dr Simarro goes on to describe how lipedema the fibrosis and hypertrophy of the saphenous compartment leads to sub-chronic compartment syndrome which causes signs and symptoms of lipedema.
