A New Era: Transition to Toon Boom Harmony

I have worked with Adobe Flash since 2008, it's almost ten years of work with the same software. Unfortunately, Flash hardly improved over those years and is still a very clunky and awkward software to work with.
At the recommendation of Pikapetey, Tiarawhy and Duo Cartoonist, I decided to learn Toon Boom Harmony and make my own rigs in it.
I present you Selene, a set of animation rigs for an upcoming Sunset Shimmer fan animated project currently in the works.
Those rigs are not based on the bases from Dinky's Destiny I have been using until Luna's Determination.
Personally, I recommend Toon Boom Harmony. It's a very powerful piece of software that offers some very welcome features that Flash lacks. It also has hardware acceleration and compositing tools to help to make much more impressive projects. The learning curve is more steep than Flash, but I think it's worth it.

Wow. Looks awesome. And better yet, this software is currently used by the big companies, like Universal Studios, Ubisoft, FOX, NBC, Dreamworks, and surprisingly, South Park Studios. Unfortunately, Toon Boom costs over 2 times more than the cost of Flash. But that's the price for good animation.

I'm glad to see more independent animators making the leap to new software. ToonBoom and TVPaint have done wonders in revitalizing interest in animation for hobbyists and professionals alike, at a much more affordable price. Dude, I'm so excited to see where you go with it!

Flash is still great for beginning. And it's part of Creative Cloud so you can get it with heaps of other programs...

@@pegamationproductions6062 I find this funny to see a comment from 2 years ago and here I am still using an old version of CS6. I agree that it TB is more expensive but the Adobe suite from what I can tell now forces you to pay a monthly-yearly memebership in order to use their software. So simply you can't just buy a version of a program outright it seems.

@@mongothemaniac5848 I did some research, and I found out that Toon Boom also makes you pay a monthly cost, of about $23 a month. And, Toon Boom is way more harder to learn and master than Flash, since its more of made for the professionals working at big-name media companies.

Sinceramente me quede con ganas de ver un poco más XD ... pero el pensar que incluso se puede otorgar más poder a la animación , pues da una alegría que no sientes muy a menudo. Esta demás decir que me quede asombrado de tan solo ver un poco de ese software :3 y el ver a Sunset también otorga un punto de "asombro" a la lista XD

Original story, but inspired by the IDW comic. I originally considered doing a one to one adaptation, but I think there's one angle of the story that I want to explore more than the one from the comic and that I think would work better with the medium of animation. I might change the title to distance it a bit from the comic, but I'm not sure at the moment.

If I ever want to start an animation career on RU-vid, I would definitely choose Toon Boom, kind of hard based on my personal opinion but it is worth learning it

@powerstar 2028 Flash is easy. It has the best timeline of any other program, nice and simple. Just NEVER USE SHAPE TWEEN, THAT THING IS TERRIFYING

That's pretty impressive. This software looks definitely more complicated but it's also a lot more powerful it would seem. I heard about Toon Boom Harmony, the MLP movie was made in it afterall, and I'm pretty sure that you will do great things in it. Though I'm kinda sceptical about 3D head... it looks... unreal for the lack of a better word. I was always more into animation made frame by frame, without any 3D assets but hey I'm sure you'll make it work. So yeah, I think you just got another subscriber :D (Man, there's only animators in it now XD) Btw, if somepo- ONE has any idea what Duo Cartoonist are doing, please, let me know.

If I recall right, Petey was the only one I remember pushing me to move to Toon Boom. Toon Boom is a great software, but damn it looks scary. Had it not been for the demos I've seen from Duo Cartoonist and Tiarawhy I would never have thought it was actually possible to make a good pony animation rig out of TB.

Minty Root, it is a scary program. But so is 3D Blender, which I can do as well. I'm sure you'll go places, just don't give up and have resolve. I was the first in CK to own the Harmony Premium for $2000.00. Petey just raved about reviews at the time.
