A New Obstacle in my Road and What It Means for My Future 

One of my best friends dealt with Bell's Palsy a couple years ago. I believe it took him about 5 weeks before he all of a sudden began to regain control of his face. I understand how difficult and frightening it can be. You have the fortitude to push through this trial, and all the support in the world from your fans. Thank you for sharing this update. I hope this is a quick speed bump and you have a fast recovery!

Bell’s palsy generally goes away in a few weeks. You’ve got this. Keep doing what you’re doing; the sense of normalcy and regularity will help.

Dear Hannibal, do not worry, you can revert it with face and word exercices, it takes a while and some persistance but normally it does not leave permanent damage. My mother had the same problem one year ago, and after a couple of months of facial exercices facing a mirror (the program must be prescribed by a doctor) she was completly cured. All the best!

You will make it. My uncle Gus told me that one of the most useful qualities a person can have is optimism. I know a fiddle player (concert violinist) who lost the use of his pinky and ring finger on his LEFT hand. He played the Tchaikovsky violin concerto (one of the toughest pieces out there for fiddle players) with his remaining TWO fingers. I did not believe it until I saw the video!!! It's here on RU-vid. So this was a year ago, and I just wanted to say that I've also suffered from Bell's palsy under that year. I got my symptoms in august, they abated in the middle of october, and I only realised while watching this video that during that entire time I had two reactions to this ordeal in my face: for one, this blows, can't whistle properly and I look like a terrifying nightmare ghoul when I blink, but the second reaction I think is very deeply related to the message in this video. I realise now that the reason I am studying to be a teacher is the exact same reason that the main thought running through my head during that month and a half was "this really is kinda cool though!" My natural reaction was analysis, a striving to understand and to describe. While this may seem like my trivialising the affliction, I really do think that when I thought that to myself, that was because of my innate response as a teacher-to-be. I hope everything is better for you now, Hannibal, and I apologise if I offended you, but I am also very thankful that you helped me understand a bit more about myself!

As a man who is also suffering with this condition, I know you can pull yourself out of this fear. Your words spoke to me on such a deep level that it has inspired me to work even harder on my physical therapy.

Only discovered your videos a couple of weeks ago. Nearly watched them all now. You are by far the best entertainer of magicians I've seen (I've seen just under two thousand acts of hundreds of magicians and illusionists). I found a book you wrote on Amazon UK as well, so I'm gonna buy that too. I mostly read books (fiction usually), but really curious to see what you've written about. Dunno if you read comments or not, but I will support you in what way I can. Thanks and best wishes. Note: this is not pity - you simply bring joy to people and that's unfortunately a rare trait - it is for that reason alone I wish to support you so long as you never give up.

I got Bells Palsy Labor Day Weekend last year, so I know what you are going through and how you are feeling. It's been six months now and I am pretty much fully recovered, very minor lingering issues but nothing of note. However, I'm an IT geek and not a incredible performer as you are. I am praying for you, and I know you will make it through this and come out even better. Just think of Buddy Hackett... he turned his Bells Palsy as a kid, which never really went away, and made it his act. You have the right attitude and you WILL get through this.

I just found your videos today. You are remarkable, and I am grateful to view your work. I have had two family members that have had Bells Palsy. Both have fully recovered with no lasting effects. One had it for several months, the other for about ten days. I hope you find these words encouraging and that recovery is possible. I had one in 2018. After 2 weeks it slowly started to become better. Just wait. Just be patient.

A couple hours ago, I had to perform a pecha-kucha style presentation in front of my university class. I was scared and ,quite frankly, underprepared so in the end, it was a disaster: I messed up my lines, the timing was all over the place and I'm pretty sure there was more "ummmm" than actual information shared. I failed hard, and I didn't take it well. I was swallowed by shame, self doubt and anger, petrified at the tought of my next similar assignment. That is, until i wached your video. Your voice, your determination and your love for both us, and for what you do has calmed and inspired me to face my own obstacles and conquer them. After all, that is thier sole purpose. To be conquered. So thank you. Thank you for all your wonderful performances, your beautiful stories and soul, and most of all, thank you for the inspiration you share with us. I got it 1 Mar 2021 and have already seen improvement. It will likely take months for full recovery. The biggest issue is to take care of the eye that can't blink. Taping it shut every night was a pain. My doctor provided information for a night mask so I can stop with the gauze and tape. The eye moisture chamber is also a great help. Lastly, use eye drops without preservatives. Hope sharing that helps.

You were always such an inspiration to me as a young kid watching you perform on television. I would love to come out and see you when you return. Stay strong.

In a weird way, I'm happy this happened to you and not somebody else, Hannibal. Because I know you're precisely the kind of person who will tame it, slay it, and make the most of it. I consider you to be twice the philosopher than the magician. And in that scope adversity, however cruel, is merely the stage of your next routine. The really magic one, which you pull off everyday on or out of stage: living a meaningful life. In the meantime, I wish the showman in you the patience and wisdom of the philosopher. Wow, Sorry to hear this. As you say in the description, you have a great chance of full recovery. I've seen it happen in my family twice. My daughter's was related to pregnancy and came about a week before her son was born. Her recovery was quick after the baby was born. My brother-in-law took a several weeks to recover. Both recovered fully. Make sure you do what your doctor has told you to do. Sharing the love and the gift will still be there. All the best.

Hannibal - I am sorry for you having to face this new challenge on top of all the other obstacles in the brave new (post covid, sort of post anyway) world. I just finished your book, and I have to say that I found your command of the language and your ability to relay emotion at a soul to soul level astounding. In such short stories, you could really capture the feelings, that comes across in your performances, but to be able to put it in the book and have a great impact is an amazing feat. I am familiar with Bell's Palsy from a friend of mine having it in the past. It can take some time, but usually resolves without long term impact. I will pray for a successful and full recovery, and quickly, but I KNOW you have what it takes to overcome this. YOU GOT THIS! Ain't no hill for a climber.

I knew someone that had it and he was told by a doctor that he was bitten by a bug and that he had a 50-50 chance of it going away.....2 months later it was gone.Good luck.

I had this years ago. I was put on a steroid regiment and daily shock therapy for muscle stimulation. People usually can’t notice unless I tell them. Get with a neurologist for treatment fast. My 1st visit to regular doctor didn’t catch it. Been there brother the eye taped shut,slobbering and choking when eating. You can get better

I know everyone reacts and recovers differently (I am an RN). I got Bell's palsy on the left side of my face in the spring of 2015. My mouth droop and open "staring" eye resolved by the end of the year. My only lingering symptom is that I cannot move my left eyebrow. My look of surprise only manifests on the right side, but no one seems to notice. Good luck to you and my prayers go out to you sir. I sense in you a good man.

My dad had Bell’s palsy. It took a couple of years, but he did improve. Please don’t let it stop you from performing or posting performances. I enjoy not only what you do, but also the personality of your style. Your style is worthy of imitation. Keep smiling with the side that still works.

Alright, I'm a fan and a Med student, Dealt with some Bell's plasy.. Both as a studying subject and had to deal with it when my father got it, I know you're scared , Don't be. It usually isn't permanent, but definitely get it checked, medications does make it better , Steroids help sometimes, physiotherapy is of utmost importance as soon as possible, and even electrical current stimulation ( no im not joking, my own dad had to go through it and it worked wonders!).. But hey,, even IF it doesn't go away, It's not lethal, you're not dead. Inconvenience? Sure it is, But it gets better, Maybe some eye protection and lubricants, and a sexy Sylvester Stallone accent.. But that's it.. Hang in there Hannibal, It DOES get better 😌
