Super vid ,I’m a brickie in my 50s worked with a brickie 30 years ago who loved his trowels not unusual to use 3 different trowels in a day and he was mustard he still puts in the odd day now he’s nearly 80👍
when i started and blokes talked about left /right hand trowels for cutting edge i thiught it was a wind up ,left the tops course with a whs , never regretted swapping for marshaltown , regarding cutting bricks with the trowel ,always thought it quicker to mark and cut with a bolster made a little wooden gauge for 3/4s and queen closures , hope the old back gets better mate
Nice one Andy 👍...supervisor I worked for sometimes after my YTS had a Marshalltown brick trowel and a Marshalltown block trowel ...hope the back gets better soon
It came out of the Berlingo which got written so dont fit the Ford so well but yes a small van needs to be organised when I had the transit it was always full of unnecessary shit 👍
Nice set up with the bucket Andy i use a Stanley one with the pockets on the outside and a zip pocket works well before i used the same set up as Rob songer. I love trowels aswell been using a marshalltown 19 11 philly since 1983 but whs before all good though. Thanks again Andy and get well soon soon
Top upload by Andy great insight to your trowels ! Had the same problem I bought that Kraft tool bucket pouch and I gave it to my colleague as I couldn’t get a bucket for it he got his mum to alter it as she does alterations to dresses and got it fits regular buckets 🪣 now 👌🏻 Hope the back is easing up enjoy the pints 🍻 cheers for the upload
I loved it when you said about going on ebay after a few drinks Andy! I do the same when buying disston hand saws ...love your channel by the way mate and all the best to you and the family
I’ve never really bothered with about my trowel. My first was a 10” narrow London on the YTS . My boss who took me on abs indentured me bought me a CK brick hammer and a WHS trowel but I can’t remember it . I used to buy Marshalltown 11 “ Phillys but they didn’t last long in the foundations so I went into Ox . Half the price but lasted as long . Then we started getting free OX ones for a while till they fell out with us . 😆. Then Rodian gave Alex and I a 10” London narrow which Al uses and a 11 “ Philly duracork handle which a love using . We had a trip up to Rhinobuild a while back and I bought Al a 10 1/2 “ narrow London BON trowel as they are a stockist now, nice trowel . Al likes the slim plastic handle . Rodian also gave us a Rose trowel which we hated and gave away 🤢😆🧱👍🏽
Rose trowels can be a problem, they are individually made but quality, they make a low and high lift and that's the one you want changing from a MT, unfortunately we aren't getting them in the UK, I've heard they are also struggling to keep up with demand as it's a traditional forge (Quality). The Bon trowels felt good when I picked one up at the Comp, they are made in Slovenia but they wanted me to pay for it obviously not famous enough😁🤣 Charlie using one at the mo👍
I've had a few tool bags over the years too and always find a simple old bucket is the handiest 😂 only problem is everything gwt wet 😢 but recently bought the stanley fat max bucket bag it's shaped like a bucket but has a strap for over the shoulder and plenty little pockets for jointer and line pins etc. Worth a look mate.
Contact the seller ,ask him Andy ,he might have bought it new . Judging by the square cut handle end I’d say it’s a fairly new trowel . I would,nt read to much into it age wise by going on the stiffness of the blade . Those rose trowels are all over the shop as regards consistency of manufacture. I have a brand new 10 inch rose narrow London ,and the blade is as thick and as rigid as the Dutch trowels .
Lol, yes that's what I thought, it's turned into a nice trowel can't wait to use it.Must say i fancy a high lift 9 inch limber to try but that's going to be like chickens teeth to find.
@@bricklayersworldwithandy6277 just had a look and the limber blades start at 10 inch . You’d probably have to go to the states and check through the standard shank trowels in a suppliers to find one with with handle angle that suits you . I’m not sure if the limber blades are on sale in the uk .
Hello Andy I’ve just got 2 rose trowels in my mail from a trade .. 2 wide London pattern 9 inch .. one with a low pitch plastic and one with a high pitch wood handle .. the low pitch I have has a remarkably thicker blade and higher weight feels very solid .. the guy who send it said it was a bad ass trowel ;) these came from the states btw .. And now think I’m gonna make myself a 7 inch trowel 🧐🤔 take care mate 🙏🏼
Nice one Jay, yes we cant get high lift in the UK, nice trowels but in my opinion the way you work in Belgian out of tubs for me they don't really work, Jung all the way👍
Andy you need to see a physiotherapist if you have lower back pain? Plus you should start going to your local swimming pool I think! All the best mate!
Can’t beat a rose trowel, I swear by them my particular favourite is 12” narrow. I used to suffer with tennis elbow when I changed over it went the lift makes the difference I think
W rose still make the ridged solid blade have 3 narrow londons 1,s worn 9inch other 2 11inch. Always buy from speedcrete just ask them to check the blades etc. did get a broad heel sent across from American via speedcrete 11inch thing was a monster 6inch wide at back again was solid blade rings bell when hit anything with it 😆 nae good for the arm use now and when on the block on flat. Can’t get on with plastic handles. Rose proform suits me a lot better thin style straight through suits me. Limber blades roses good Andy but wouldn’t want to be chipping bricks with them tho. Super light in the hand.
@@bricklayersworldwithandy6277 Yeah buddy speedcrete contacted them only handle they didn’t have it was rubber but they put 1 on for me. Can send ya a limber blade rose philly was 10 1/2 think more like 9 now low lift handle tho. Will have a look see if have any more limber 1,s may have a narrow London. 10 1/2 pos. A mostly like the solid blade now.
Andy- I live about 15 miles from the Rose Factory in Sharron Hill PA. I was lucky enough to be inside once, you would love it, stepping back in time! I'm a trowel hound as well and love me a good W. Rose. I've been looking to get a WHS Wide heel 10" London. but it is hard to find in The US. What's the best way to pick one up without breaking the bank ? THX
Hi David i thought they moved the factory from Sharon Hill? I dont know, they turn up occasionally on UKebay under "Vintage Bricklaying Trowels" not sure on postage though. If i see one on a boot sale ile grab one you can always buy bigger and grind it down.
I think Kraft tool bought them and they are in Missouri I think, but I work with someone whose spouse still works at the Sharron Hill location. I believe that they still make the trowels at that location I will check on that. What's the best way to contact you? I had a few other questions for you.Thx@@bricklayersworldwithandy6277
Nice one Andy , you've got a great trowel collection there.... Keep away from that Tick Tok mate it'll do your head in the amount of shit on there...😀 cheers...👍
I know how your feeling. Im 58 and been off with my back. How old are you..its a hard game on the body. I dont think ive many more jobs left. Always looking for easier ways to work.
Happy friday ... have to say being 52 my back and arthritis fuck me ... hence buying a concrete boom pump and pumping concrete... boring as bat shit ...good money and easy on the body ..
I was given a WRose by an American Bricklayer whom came here to New Zealand, whom I employed. I thought I'd give it a go, at the very least it would put an end to the constant..."it's the best Trowel", rhetoric!!! Well...I did use it Andy, on both Concrete Blockwork and Bricks...but after awhile the bloody toe of the Trowel curled up like Aladdin's shoes. Useless!!! Lol... It got retired pretty soon after and I never heard another peep about it. Hope your back gets sorted, sooner than later....
10 inch marshall town is my go to now and i do like the 10 inch rose for blockwork. Anything above a 10 gives me tennis elbow .I had terrible tennis elbow a few years back changed to the rose for a bit and it went so a trowel can make all the difference in many ways mentally and physically Andy . Have u counted how many you have mate ? 👍🧱🧱🧱
Ive got rid of a lot i had two or more of, just kept one of each for the collection, not counted but probably 30 but was a lot more.A lot of people say the low lift Rose cured there tennis elbow i had it bad mid 80s and had the op been ok since but i still wear a tennis elbow strap at times to protect it.Technically i suppose a smaller trowel should make it worse as more movements are needed with a smaller trowel than a big one but that dosent seem to be the case👍
