i wanted to mention that archive buyers buy for different purposes so with it’s not argument about following wave of archive fashion, I know people would buy archive pieces because of the reference behind the piece not just like the hype of archive fashion, I can’t tell someone stop being obsessed with your favourite archive or recent designers. Me personally I’m obsessed with archive clothes of my favourite designers not the hype pieces by the ppl into archive just for the hype of current designers because many brands i could mention that have archive pieces but niche market know about it, vexed generation, Alexander van slobbe, Shinichiro Arakawa, Bless.. so it’s about the purpose of the consumer sometimes hype or obsession or collecting or sentimental value. peace and love!

I have been covering Fashion Week New York from around 2003 through 2019 and because of the opportunity to create an archive of the runway shows that I have captured over the years I decided to broadcast the runway fashion shows on RU-vid for the models and designers that may not have seen their shows when I produced them on Time Warner from around 2006 through 2008. I was hoping that you can give me your opinion of how you can see that the designs, even the type of material used changed from season to season.

I feel like archive fashion is more aesthetic based more than anything

Nice video. I think I agree with you on the margins of the argument but I probably disagree with the core tenet therein, that some brands are considered “archive”. Maybe it’s a bit pedantic but I do think that people meaningfully distinguish between eras in a brand’s history and not all of their work can be put under an umbrella of “archive”. I think that it could be applied to the examples you give here too- I’ve got some older, circa 2000s Kapital that some might venture to call archival of Kiro Hirata’s work, but his dad had been making clothing under the Kapital label for 15 years prior. That said I don’t think anyone would call the bone sweaters of the past few years archive. Same for someone buying a new pair of tabi boots. It’s all just fashion, some of it is older and as a consequence, “archive”. Sorry for the long comment, overall enjoyed the vid

This is the exact type of comment I was hoping to get so thanks so much! I feel the same way. Actually edited a bit out about the bone stuff and kapital trucker hats definitely not being “archive” although they can be tasteful if that’s your vibe. But yeah I think there are definitely collectors of every genre who consider their respective stuff archival but of course you have like the Antwerp 6, Raf, Rick, and really that “cult” archive wave that I just wanted to suggest should maybe have some more entries from around that time, or other garments that are equally valued for their absurdity in quality or idea. Thanks again for the support it means the world :)

To add on to that quickly I think maybe the large part that you are disagreeing with is the idea that stuff is titled archive and I agree w that. Idk why this small group is archive fashion and that’s like their buzz word to describe them when clearly there are other significant contributors around that era and before them too.

@@stylesgraeme I appreciate your responses. I think engaging in dialogue on these subjects is how we move the conversation forward. Again really appreciated your perspective and the time you put into making this video

Visvim in the superfuture era was something else lol wait till the kids find out about Temple of Jawnz in 2028

It is so interesting to see how far they have come since FBTs and Denim of the 2010s. I believe aesthetic will always beat out storytelling for most people in fashion, so I am unsure if Visvim will ever be able to overtake the big names but it is nice to try and help it gain more recognition

I think an argument can be made that this recent surge of archive pricing could possibly be attributed to audience. As consumers grow out of phases, I know for many you start off in streetwear, may move onto Americana, and then the final boss being what’s considered “high fashion” and the audience there assumes this is the final stop the highest tier of fashion, and will pay top dollar for it. My two cents, no idea if correct or not

Thank you so much for saying that, I have been completely unsure. My next two uploads will hopefully have the audio adjusted properly! After that I might go buy a new microphone as this is just a cheap one
