New from WLTOYS this is the 124006!
Wltoys have had a rough couple of years with some pretty terrible releases but are things ever going to get back to how they were for WLtoys? At the current rate I highly doubt it!
This is heavily based on the old 12428 which I believe was a cool little RC truck for very little money. I never reviewed one myself but I heard it was awesome!

In this price range there are some solid options which make this hard to justify with some of its features but if you like trophy trucks this may be a good cheap RC car for you after some minor upgrades.

Are those friction shocks in the footage where you take the bodyshell off or is that the replacement shocks you've put in ? They might have had to stop filling them up due to some import laws to allow them to ship out through some shipping services smoothly without a lot of extra cost. I know Japan needs to do that for example on tamiya kits where they have to be removed from the boxes or they won't ship them out.

@@Mini-z1994 no they are the original friction shocks but judging by the manual it may be possible to fill them up. Can’t see it being a law issue as lots of cars are still coming over with oil shocks that I review. Just wltoys being cheap IMO..

This is exactly the same as the 12428 but with a truck body on it. That truck is like 6 or 7 years old. I got this for my nephew when he was a little kid. It’s a decent truck- but why recycle a 7 year old truck? Give it oil filled shocks and make it brushless or something.

I get the feeling they don't care what people want. It's just release something to make quick cash. With a little bit more attention to detail and design work they could be up there with the top brands. It seems they have gone backwards since the 144001. Such a shame really.

They had the oil filled shocks dialed in so well on the old buggies. This new one with a brushless system and oil shocks for $145 USD would be a good seller. What a shame.

Why does this remind me of the WLToys 12429 so much? The chassis and wheels look exactly the same! LOL! $113 USD seems about right for that truck, especially if it is the same size and layout as the 12429, but I agree with you. Even if it cost a little more why not upgrade it to oil shocks?

Thats all 12428 under it. Probably with the glued in pinion and motor mount too which took me 2 hours of cursing and chanting with a blow torch to remove. The shocks do not hold oil. You can pack them full with grease, that helps a little. There are same lenght 1/16 oil shocks on ebay which have way too hard black springs. Using these with kit springs and 150 cst oil much improves it. Stock wltoys motor in this kit has approx 21 turns and burns to crisp, to be replaced with a tamiya torque tuned. Same peformance much more reliable. Replacement 3 wire servo is a jx pdi 2506 25g. Its a strange size and this fits drop in. There are drop in 380 motor mount from another model, makes a 2845 brushless with 45a conversion possible. No more then 4000kv or the diffs will fly to orbit. Mod stock pinion is a m 0.8 17T not some usual wltoys oddball pitch. 18 and 19T mod pinion fits with a slider motor for either 380 or 540. The speed spur for 58 and 56 on thingyverse is my remix since the stock fdr is somewhere in a realm of this sucks. Since there is nothing aftermarket for it. Mount + spur is once piece similar to a tamiya tt01. If you wanna put in the work or tinker get it. Otherwise its full of issues.

I appreciate your honest reviews! This is just a new color and body of the 12428, and I never cared for the lay down front shocks with this model. Too much slop in the front end, even when upgraded to oil filled shocks. No room for a decent battery, the 12427/8 took a bit of body cutting in the rear to fit a small 2s lipo there. The wheels and tires are nice, but that's about where it ends for these models. Thanks for the review, WLToys needs to step it up because they are losing fans. Keep up the great work!

I cut the rear bottom and strapped a 2s shorty in there laying on the side. Just clears after removing the spare tyre.

So I guess the WL stands for wasn’t lasting.😢 honestly this is sad. They had some bangers a few years ago. Not just the 140001 but some good 1/12th buggies and I still have a special place in my heart for their 1/24 rc’s. 😢W(wasn’t) L(listening) to consumer feedback

good video mate, i get what you say about oil shocks, i had the wltoys polaris thing same chassis it was pretty good fun and i did put oil dampers in that made it a bit better but battery mounted high up same as this and made it top heavy

The 12428 was ok on 2cell but soon as you go 3cell the diffs keep going and no upgrade.. I ended up putting a whole different rear end on my one.

Wltoys was never a good quality rc brand. I was having the 144001 and I was excited but when started to drive it the drive shafts were bent very easily and steering and caster blocks screws was open the screw holes and made them bigger very easily becauseof the very low quality plastic. It's a nice but not a good model. Every cheap rc car can look nice and be awful in quality and this is the wltoys and not only this brand. I just watched the video only because it needs work to make a video, and I appreciate it when someone tries to make a good video.

It’s modeled after an Ultra4 car. Which does blend fast and crawl. This particular body is to resemble Loren Healy’s truck. Pretty cool scale setup, but as you noted….. skimped on a lot

Both cvd's, rear is just long axles. But they have more slop and play in them as a yugo. On top they dont come with grease from the factory or very little. It was more a whiteish goo that looks like body fuilds literaly.

does look good, but there is so much better for the money why would you buy it? friction shocks are just a no no nowadays and WLToys are ignoring customers at their peril. i guess their future customers will be people who dont know better and they are just buying fo kids... but at 100 quid people are more likely t research as thats still a pretty big investment to give to a kid as a toy. I dont really get it, its like they are ignoring the market and competition. I suspect this will be another forgotten model.

You say the manual says you can fill the shocks with oil, and yet you refuse to do it and call them friction shocks. That makes the review kinda pointless for me. I wish you would have filled the shocks and shown the potential of the car.

You are the exact kind of person i mentioned in the video. Did you miss the part where i said i review products as they turn up to me? Do you buy a ARRMA truck and fill the shocks? No. Do you buy a RLAARLO, MJX or HBX and fill the shocks? Absolutely not. If sold as a Ready to run (Which it is) nothing should be required apart from charging the battery and going out to run it. If Wltoys fail to properly test/develop and quality control their cars that's down to them not me.

Screwed on body, friction shocks and still brushed in 2024; WLToys has become bottom of the barrel. Looks alone won't sell a car, at least for me. You can still buy their old cars like the 144010 and 124017 which are still good value, but their most recent releases cannot be recommended anymore by any means.

I have never liked wpl, especially with thier model number's, just give them a name, I have dyslexia, so wpl cars just confuse me, I have always thought they are very over rated ,don't like bang good,too, they are over rated too, most their cars are rubbish 😱😱🤔🫡
