Try to report on police, prison, military and state security crimes, especially murder, and you could find yourself in contempt of court of there's a gag order in place (including gag orders on gag orders, meaning you're not allowed to reveal the existence of any gag order, let alone why they were put in place), anywhere in the west that has such a thing, which is most countries. Especially here in Australia, where a lot of information on such is buried, does this court-ordered suppression take place, especially around deaths done by cops and prison guards against indigenous people. Zionazi Israel murders journalists deemed hostile wholesale, or gets them fired, and controls all footage and reporting the ones they don't kill or otherwise work against compile and do. The fact is that a free press is a laughable notion anywhere, *especially* the "free west/free world" because if you dissent and you reach a big enough audience, or even if you don't get a wide consumption base but they're paranoid (which is a big deal today, especially concerning Israhell/Isnotreal, and especially with fake claims of "terrorism" or "combatting disinformation") or just find you annoying, your feet won't touch the ground. And don't get me started on Julian Assange and every other whistleblower who's ever existed... If by "gold standard" you mean they literally urinate on press freedom whenever it suits them, then you'd be right lol. Everybody knows that Al Jazeera (a famously non-Israeli media outfit based in and funded by the Qatari state, a comprador regime of the US empire) has a lot more freedom to report than does Israeli media, which has been especially hampered in recent months. I can't imagine why... But sure, you go on believing what you want and see where it gets you. Deviate even slightly from being a decently-behaved pet and see where it gets you with your state.

Reducing the emancipation of India from British rule to the "success" of Gandhian non-violence is a myth. The Palestinians have done this with their non-violent Great March of Return, where peaceful protesters (mostly women and children) were gunned down by IDF snipers. Easy for you to pontificate online when you don't live under the boot of colonizers that have total control over your life and material conditions.
