Also some props to stunt woman Leslie Hoffman. She was the hall monitor in Nancy’s high school who took the hit and fall on her behind. Fun fact: She was also the stunt lady in Naked Gun when Leslie Neilson slid across the table with Queen Elizabeth while her legs were in the air.

Cool fact, his name is Anthony (Tony) Cecere, and I worked with him on (Larry Clark's) Bully. He started off as a double for Robert Blake in Baretta. He was one of the 1st to use the new (at the time) fire gel for this scene tumbling down the stairs on fire. He was the guy in the Stay Puft Marshmallow man suit in Ghostbusters and has worked on everything from Terminator to Armageddon, Scream, Transformers, Con Air, Minority Report, etc... Real nice man.

Fun Fact: The joke behind 15 year old Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp) looking in the mirror and saying, "God, I look like I'm 20" is because she actually was when she made this movie. Another Fun Fact: This is Johnny Depp's first movie. Also, Fred "Freddy" Krueger (Robert Englund) performance was so popular, as the series progressed he was allowed to add his own flavor to it and he intentionally added a strange humor to the character, giving him some pretty memorable one-liners. It became something that viewers looked forward to. So, actually there was some intentional humor and that helped make the series popular.
@DannyBedo

Probably one of the funnest horror performances over time. Jason gets dumb, leather face is useless after 1 movie, and Scream is just garbage. Trauma will always be a great root of true horror and that’s why Freddy works.

Fun fact: There is a scene which was cut from this movie where it's explained to Nancy when her mother came clean about knowing who Freddy was, that their parents had other children who he killed. Nancy, Glen, Tina, and Rod weren't only children. The parents got revenge on Freddy for killing THEIR kids and being set free.

The A Nightmare on Elm Street set up for so many sequels. Some good some bad and definitely changed the game with horror movies. The creators wanted a villian that attacked people in a way that they had not normally done and this was the results and it has been movie gold since. I hope he gets a chance to watch all the rest.
@weezerfan084

Just to help with the scene where she rips the phone out and it still rings, everything going on where she's awake but still getting Freddy somehow is due to microsleep. Being awake for such long periods leads to a sudden temporary episode of sleep or drowsiness that lasts for less than 30 seconds. It occurs when an individual loses and regains consciousness after a brief lapse in consciousness, often without warning, or when there are sudden shifts between states of wakefulness and sleep. I'd recommend finishing the whole series through New Nightmare. I normally tell people to skip the second film since I think it's the weakest, but if you are going to finish the series regardless you should watch it just to get a better appreciation and understanding of the films following it. If you're not doing the whole line up i'd say skip to "Dream Warriors", then "Freddy's Dead" (it's more funny than scary but it gives a good Freddy backstory), and then "New Nightmare" to complete it.

Johnny Depp’s movie debut! Director Wes Craven would later ask some of the original actors to return for his 1994 movie Wes Craven’s New Nightmare. Johnny Depp was not asked to return. But later on, Wes Craven admitted that he was simply intimidated and didn’t think Depp would do it. He was already a huge star by then. Johnny Depp later commented that he would’ve been glad to appear if Wes Craven had simply asked. Depp did make a cameo in Nightmare on Elmstreet 6 under a different director.

This is a prime example on how to do amazing practical effects and how an incredible film comes out as a result. I wish they did practical more often these days instead of relying on CGI. The wall panel being spandex when Freddy's face comes through over Nancy. The rotating room for Tina's death they used for Glenn's room when the bed shoots out blood but really it's the bed on the ceiling and the blood is pouring out. A tank being underneath the tub and the prop designer Jim Doyle who built the glove was the one who had his hand come out from a hole. And when they yank Nancy down it's actually at a pool with a tarp over it so you feel like it's a dark abyss in the water. Jim's then gf played Nancy in that shit and they had a scuba team with them to make sure it was safe.

We third shift people (or night owls in general) would be perfect for keeping guard. It's always ticked me off when in TV shows/movies a character says they'll stay up but end up conking out in no time, putting everyone at risk of danger. The trope is _rarely_ ever played for laughs like when Clark falls asleep behind the wheel in _Vacation_ and only wakes up (screaming) when Ellen tells him to "turn off the TV and come to bed". Other than that, I'd have no reservation on punching someone in the mouth for failing that ONE job to stay awake.

I can tell you that a major part of the ending of the film was changed from the original ending by producer Bob Shaye. He and Wes Craven butted heads behind the scenes. He wanted the ending to have more of a twist ending. The original ending was that it was going to end happy, the only remnant of Freddy Krueger was the kids singing the jump rope song. Freddy possessing the car, the mom getting pulled through a window was due to a compromise the two made on the ending.

Great reaction! 😊 This is one of my all-time favorite horror classic horror movies. Fun Fact # 1: This was Johnny Depp's very first movie. Fun Fact #2: 21:04 - 21:57 There's an extended scene of this scene that reveals that Nancy, Glenn, Tina, and Rod all had a sibling that Freddy had killed. That was more motivation for the parents to go after him. The scene can be found here on RU-vid. I very highly recommend "Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors" and "Wes Craven's A New Nightmare". Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊

When you said “Freddy freaky” I couldn’t stop laughing, that is one of the funniest things I have ever heard

I’m so glad you are watching the original…. Thought it was the remake……. This one is better … 😊 … we had awesome movies back in the day …. I was 10 when I first seen this movie in 1985 … loved it then … still love it today

I also get annoyed whenever someone is asked what their favorite final girl is they always say Jamie Lee Curtis. She is such a popular choice that I looked at it as obvious choice when someone says her when it comes to final girl. I always found her boring in Halloween. I remember watching Chucky and the character Jake was asked what his favorite final girl is, and I like his character but it annoyed me when he decided to be obvious and say Jamie lee Curtis. I always have liked Nancy from Nightmare on Elm Street more then Laurie.

John Carpenters movies from the 80s were really on a different level. You should go through his greatest hits on here.

I grew up watching horror movies. This is one of the few that actually scared me. The other is the first Saw, Spoilers (Saw) when buddy bursts out the closet both in the lil girls room and when they get Adam.

If it weren't for the fact that I know you can't stay sane without dreaming, I would think I never do. I haven't remembered a dream in at least ten years. Everyone talks about their dreams and I literally have nothing. I used to get nightmares, but not even that anymore.

I don't know if the campiness was intentional or not to give an "off", unsettling vibe, but it's great. Totally makes it scarier like you're in a dream where anything could happen.
