A Nightmare On Elm Street, on its own, is perhaps the greatest original idea in horror movie history. I get the idea of nightmares had been explored in other movies, but the creativity of this film still blows me away even today. Wes truly was a visionary.

The birth of an icon and the foundation of a movie studio. I love Freddy Krueger and his dark humor.

Best horror movie of all time, Freddy Krueger best horror villain and he only has 7 minutes of screen time 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

You know a villain is genuinely great and terrifying when you don’t even notice that he’s barely in the movie. The dread that hangs over the original movie is palpable. Even though you don’t see him, you know he’s there somewhere. Great, great stuff 👏

@jokir520 I agree, Michael Myers, the original Halloween, and the earlier Friday, the 13th movie's 2-4, you don't see Jason that much

I remember seeing A Nightmare on Elm Street at our local movie theater when I was 17. Full house and silent (except during the intense parts). This is one of the few horror movies that truly scared me!

Absolutely true! The role is Englund's and nobody can fill those shoes the same way. One of the greatest icons of horror/fiction over the last 50 years! It all began with this little film that became a juggernaut of the genre. Great episode (as always) in a great series. Thanks for continuing to gift us with these entries. I'm loving them! Cheers!

I consider Freddy THE top horror icon of the last 50 years. Such an original, creative and sadistic character! He ruled the 80's like no one else.

The first nightmare on elm street film is the greatest horror film ever made for me. One of the characteristics I usually use to quantify greatness is how many other things it has inspired. Well NOES 1 didn’t really inspire subsequent copycat films, but that’s only because it was a complete one off, the mould was broken. And as great as the second and third films are in the franchise- the third film is the most enjoyable to watch; no film in existence can replicate or match the absolute original terror of that film

The first nightmare and the original Freddy was terrifying. I look at 1 as a stand-alone movie with parts 2-6 existing in their universe because there’s no way Papa Freddy from 6 is Fred from part 1 😂

Exactly. I hated they turned the whole thing into some sort of pseudo clown franchise.

I watched a Nightmare on Elm Street when I was 12, behind my parents back. It frightened me so much I had to sleep with lights on for the first time in nearly 4-5 years. I was too embarrassed to tell my parents why for a week I kept trying not to go to bed.

In the 1980s. My older sister's would push us into a closet or dark bedroom and yell "Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers Jason!!!". And hold the door closed till we were hysterical. Good times

I remember the first time i saw Freddy Kruger, there was a giant cut out of him promoting a nightmare on elm street part 2 in our local blockbuster in Aberdeen Scotland, me and a friend went to get a vhs rental and saw this incredible figure staring back at us, we shit ourselves and ran out the vhs store, scared but intrigued at what we saw. Me and my friend sitting in his backgarden talked about the scary burnt face man that met us in the store, we had horrendous nightmares that night, and my dad was wanting to rent some movies for the weekend so went back to the same store the following day and aged 10 i begged my dad to rent this movie for me, he did along with a nightmare on elm st part one, and when my friend came over that night for a sleepover i put NOLS 1 on not telling what the fuck i just rented, we both cowered in our beds watching Freddy slice and dice his way through innocent kids my friend refused to watch the second one, instead he went through to my brothers room and coward like a baby for the rest of the night. He went home the next day and told his mum what we watched, and funnily enough we soon never spoke again.... thank you Freddy not for only opening my eyes to what horror could be but for getting rid of friends who it turns out i had nothing in common with!

Great video, but I can't believe the JoBlo crew didn't talk about "Dreamscape" before ending the 1984 segment of this wonderful docu-series. "Dreamscape," which predated "A Nightmare On Elm Stree" by at least three months, shares a similar concept and contains many horrific images. JoBlo gave "The Terminator" its props (and deservedly so), but nothing for "Dreamscape." Bummer.

Freddy was the first and only horror to make me dream a night terror. I woke up freaked from Freddy in my dream ran to my parents room to hide with them. Remember vividly being wide awake and seeing Freddy reach to stab me with his knives. I just shut my eyes and hoped it wasn’t real. 😅 bring him back.

The reason why nobody can replace robert is 1. Robert had time with this character for so many years think about it since 83 84 all the way up to 03 and a special apperence on the Goldberg's 2018 thats roughly 20 years in the story line amazing thats why its damn near impossible to replace robert 2.who can vision freddy like wes did for a remake that would scare the piss out of us and make us scared to go asleep at night maybe andy musheitti I may have spelled that wrong he did a hell of a job with it he is the only person I can see down the line to do remake but the person that will play Freddy has to be better than Robert honestly i like Jackie's mannerisms to a degree especially in the beginning in the dinner. But after that it was may day may day 3. Idk about kevin bacon he hasn't done Any concepts no type of concept trailer if u get my drift no script now nothing to Try to even persuade the wes estate at all but those r my reasons I did see a a really good concept trailer in 09 is think it was produced by platinum dunes and this was just before they announced a remake and this trailer was really good lile some of Freddy's face was on fire his claws were red hot as if they just came out of the furnace it was really good and im trying to find it on youtube but im having a hard time lol it is one person I could possibly see and many wont agree but jason clarke i know i know but he is the closest looking person next to robert and that concept if im not mistaken I think it was him that played Freddy I really got to find that video but anyway just spitballing

Yeah, I was craving a smart dude Wes he was a psychology teacher. He knew the mind and stuff as far as that you know I don’t know if you would ever have been a psychiatrist, but I would’ve love to meet him and Jorge Romero and you know and I don’t even law to have met Tobe Hooper and talk to these guys and see how much I’ve loved their movies and how much they scare me and stuff like that but especially Wes Craven he’s a smart dude man yeah I’ve I’ve only had a couple nightmares involving Freddy Krueger, but it involves mothers slasher icon villains too but yeah I was craving scare me and NightmareOnElmStreet as a kid growing up like Josh Steven Spielberg a scare me from water and I still don’t like water so yeah the movies can do that to You🍿

Glenn’s death wasn’t scary. He just got sucked into his bed and blood gushed out. Tina’s death was messy and you saw every minute of it.

Sweet F-ing Jesus, people, it's a *JUMPROPE SONG* 🙄 *NOT* a "lullaby", *NOT* a "nursery rhyme"🤦 Freddy had a *900* number, *NOT* an "800" number. Wes Craven has said several times that it was his *daughter* that was most influential in his casting of Johnny Depp, not because of anything that Wes specifically saw in him over others auditioning for the role.

Back then: one memorable masterpiece after another, cheap and great. Today: billions of budget, CGI and all they manage in hollywood is grey diarrhea.
