Cadence is diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder known as Angelman syndrome. She is nonspeaking and very social. Cadence and her family want others to know that a person can be nonspeaking and still love to be around others and interact in their own way.

I just want to note that the communication between Cadence and me in this video is just as valid as a conversation with words. In fact, I believe Cadence may have more effectively communicated her feelings and emotions than the typical person in our interaction. I’m a severe/profound special education para. None of my kids can communicate through talking but they can DEFINITELY communicate!! We use lots of music in our classroom as well as special lighting. My kids can tell me what lighting they want by how they physically interact with the lights. They have different music preferences and we have to take turns listening to everyone’s music. I’m pretty sure I’ve been cussed at just by some of the looks I receive 😂 I most often get looks of complete love ❤ I hear giggles and “singing” and screeches of happiness. A smile can say more than any amount of spoken words. We have the most special non verbal conversations in our class and anyone who doesn’t take the time to listen is missing out, in my opinion at least 😊

Hi my name is Aubrey and I have Down syndrome and doctors told my parents I would never walk, talk or function in society but you know what my parents never believed that because they knew how smart (wise), independent, strong person that I would become as an adult, even when someone has another type of disability or in a wheelchair it doesn’t mean that it will stop them from living their best life. The way you have raised your daughter cadence is beyond perfect what your doing to help her is what is making her so happy and she knows how much you love her, you are an amazing mom

The beauty is the way you connect with her. Such a special talent Chris. I'm always in awe of you and your ability to treat everyone so kindly, and to truly connect. I'm autistic and I do struggle with social connection. I've been getting better, and part of it is just watching people like you, and truly trying to connect with the world. Colin Farrell's son has Angelman Syndrome. When his son was very young he started a research foundation for testing and treatment, as well as a cure. I very much appreciate all SBSK does to help bring light, hope and laughter to all their guests. And i appreciate when "famous" people do the same. I think people underestimate how much fun it is to make music with someone who takes so much joy in it. My grandpa in later years became non verbal and started loving music, clapping, me singing and it’s the only way I can connect with him. He can shout out a rare word at most. Just the joy of brining happiness to someone else spending time with them is a gift to us to. It’s like being totally present with another person. Cadence is a lovely artist, a passion for rhythm and music. Thankyou for sharing your story and positive energy Cadence.

I had no idea Angelman's Syndrome was the mirrored(?) Prader-Willie syndrome. You hear of Prader-Willie Syndrome, but not so much about Angelman. She may be non-verbal, but she is very bright. You can just see the wheels turning while she processes everything. Enjoying the arts is such a fabulous way to let go, enjoy your own talents, learn the talents of others. Since she loves water and the arts, have you seen the paints for the bathtub? Some are like bingo daubers, but there are really neat supplies. I was an art major (painter and ceramicist) so I understand the connection.

There was this kid in an old life skills class I helped out in back in 9th grade who I believe has either this syndrome or one similar. He always had the happiest look on his face and I'd just talk to him while helping one of the teachers with little things in the classroom. I don't remember his name, but I will always remember how talkative he was for being non-verbal and his joy when the teachers would put on dance music for the class.

Beautiful!!! I love showing and telling others that communication is not just with words. Many non verbal people have no issues communicating. They just use different tools and learned ways of doing so! My son is high functioning on the spectrum, recently at his ot he met a little boy who was non-verbal. My son asked why he couldn't talk, and also assumed he couldn't understand people around him. It was such a great learning experience for my son. We told him the little boy communicates, just not with words. He uses body language and some sign language. So we've been learning sign language anyway in our honeschool...but we were able to practice it and learn more so my son can communicate with his new friend!

Chris was just made for this! What a sweet young lady, I’ve known several young people with this condition and they really do have a very happy and sociable disposition. It’s quite uncanny the fact that just a tiny depletion can create children and young people who can almost instantly be recognised as having Angelman Syndrome.

I had to pause around six minutes in because I am just so moved by the positive acceptance and genuine love her mom and grandma have for her. I have medical issues that pale in comparison to what Cadence struggles with, and I still will never be 100% independent. I’ll never be able to live on my own or provide for myself completely, and I really struggle with feelings of being a burden to my family (mostly my parents). I know my parents don’t see me as a burden and I’m beyond thankful for that, but my mental health isn’t great because I struggle to cope with my limitations. Thank you for helping me see my own situation in a more positive light. And thank you Cadence!

I do respite care with a little girl with a mitochondrial disease. She is the only one in Canada with this disease, which doesn't have an official name. She has a low life expectancy, and is at risk for sudden death. She's quadriplegic, non verbal, has a G.J tube, and is on several different types of medication. Among other things, she's deaf, has epilepsy, spina bifida, and dystonia. Despite all this, she's a very happy little girl. She has big blue eyes and the sweetest smile. She sure melts your heart.

She is precious!!! I’ve worked in a long term care facility for individuals with developmental disabilities as a speech therapist for the last 16 years. It brings so much joy to my life. There is something so special about the these individuals and I’m doing exactly what I was meant to be doing.

I love her laugh when she is enjoying the music. 🥰❤️ I’ve never heard of this disorder before but my little girl(9yrs old next month) is very similar to Cadence. The Drs diagnosed her with autism and develop mental delays. We are currently waiting on genetic testing, not sure why it has taken so long. Best wishes ❤

obviously haven’t watched the whole video yet, but what struck me is the fact that she doesn’t require that much sleep?? a disorder can do that?? our body can do that?? that is wild idk why it’s so surprising to hear but it is
