@@Ben-kq9ji even if it is a regret, can’t be that bad. Multi millionaire and look, he’s still doing something and getting paid that most of us can’t even do for fun.
Absolutely....but god how good was Matisse....that's a bloke you would want to play alongside and have a beer with after the game....yes I'm an Aussie...
Thybulle is a deep thinking good dude. I'm a fan. As for JJ, he went out of his way to defend Ben ... but that was a tough but fair question to Matisse.
Matisse is the first player since Tony Allen that made me love watching defense again. It’s cool to see that he’s such a thoughtful and considerate guy as well
Literally Ben could've easily dunk it and at least tied the game, Matisse was in a bad spot to score and getting fouled was gonna happen regardless what he did. Problem was that Ben didn't even try to dunk the ball because he was scared of getting fouled and attempting free throws?! Sure Matisse can get some blames but the primary issue was Ben, he choked not just in that *one game* but the ENTIRE series...
Not many people are actually giving him resppect for his answer.qeirdly a person of his age and stature gave a better answer to questions than Both Doc and Ben have
@Aristides Gonzalez Funny how that works. My favorite version is "very articulate". I've heard that one directed at me one too many times. Micro-aggressions are weird. They are always context specific. Along those lines, since you can't hear tone in key strokes, there's no way to know what the OP meant by this. They might have been being sincere, lacking self-awareness, or anything in between. Maybe we should give the benefit of the doubt on this one as they ended the comment with an expression of pride in Matisse representing them. Just my two cents. On the other hand, the other comments directed at you are obviously from utter douche nozzles that are surprised when they see a black person on a plane, or you know, speaking English.
What else is he going to say? He's Matisse thybulle he's the biggest diplomat in sports right now. 2nd year player that isnt confrontational hes not in a position ta call anyone out
Props Thybulle!! Didn’t know it was you who actually Lost the series! But Ben did pass up the dunk which gave 1million people Covid , stalled the recovery, got Lil Nas X pregnant and allowed Paul to beat Woodley. He really covered for you…
@@justcameron6805 Not really but to say he’s not from America is pretty stupid. Dude was born in Arizona and lived in Washington state and went to an American university.
He was in the perfect situation when they had JJ and Butler. Being the 3rd or even 4th option suits him perfectly. Idk what the real trade options are but putting him on Golden State or another contender with scoring options is the best fit I believe for Ben Simmons
Big facts, gsw would be trouble creating matchup nightmares almost everywhere especially with klay back. His pros out weigh his cons, if a team uses him correctly. I think philly just needs more shooters or atleast more deadly shooters no disrespect to those guys they got, i really like thybulle myself as player.
Not an option. Thats one of those media fabricated trades. You really think they're sending Ben to Golden State for draymond or andrew Wiggins? Yeah I'm sure Daryl Morey cant wait ta pull the trigger on that one
He is 3rd or 4th now but Tobias and Curry were allowed to not be that guy in the late 4th and Embiid was turning the ball over so much how many possessions were they losing. That's what makes it weird to hear people try to act like his 4th quarter scoring was ever an expectation...the issue is BEN needed and you'd want him to see everyone else struggle and be like "I got this"...where would he pull that from and when has he ever been like that or had coaching push him to be that? Doc said REPEATEDLY "We don't need Ben to score..." In both 7 game 2nd series Embiid avg 4+ Turnovers...This is your non-playmaking Center throwing the ball away like this...your MVP.
@@kudabeen why was Embiid playing point in the fourth quarter? Maybe it was because your actual point guard was running away from the ball because he was scared to get fouled. This is the same story when people scream that embiid is spending too much time at the three-point line: what the heck are you supposed to do when your point guard needs the paint in order to score!?? If Ben gave us 30 points and eight turnovers no one would be trying to ship him out of town! There's nothing happening to Ben that is not deserved. He wants out, that's hilarious considering they've been trying to trade him since last year. as George would say I'M breaking up with YOU
I mean… he can definitely put the loss on himself he committed a foul beyond the 3 point line when the Hawks were only up by 1 with under a minute to go. You wanna talk about expectations? Remember, Tisse was 2nd team all defense last season. It is inexcusable for a defender of that caliber to make a mental mistake like that in the crunch time of an elimination game.
That being said, Ben does deserve blame for not showing up in the 4th quarter during that series. I’m not gonna sit here and defend his poor play in the clutch. He has to be better too. But Tisse is right it really wasn’t all on him it was a total team collapse that led to the second round exit.
@@AniSage I've never seen Ben play without confidence until that series.. in other words his team or the fans or the organization doesn't encourage him they didn't have faith in him he played timid to satisfy others this first games I've seen him hesitant
The only thing I gotta disagree with JJ on is we did appreciate Ben’s greatness. We asked him to shoot, he refused and we let it go. Then he just decided to not do any of the things he does great except play defense. He left Philly hanging in the Hawks series. Ben can get to the rim with ease , that’s we didn’t care about him shooing. Then he just stopped scoring.
Sometimes you think youre asking a little, when youre really asking for a lot. If the GM and Doc felt the need and told from day 1 to start shooting, maybe they would have come to the conclusion that A) he can shoot or B) He's just not a shooter, by playoffs time. You let him play guard for heaven's sake. When youre winning it wasn't much of a deal but come playoffs you expect him to be a well rounded guard overnight? Dont act like Doc Rivers isnt suspect too, his bad in-game subs and adjustments (or lack thereof), bringing his sh*t from LA to Philly. Then be like everyone and puting it all on Ben when they lost. Now ben's out, who are you gonna blame next when you get kicked off the playoffs this season. Fact is you weren't a finals team last year.
@@Itssconnorr bro the Ben Simmons we saw in the playoffs was nothing but a defensive mentality player.. he was a legit liability on offense and he has never been that before. He didn’t look scared to drive and score any other season but this season he passes and posts up next to the paint.. is it worth having the best defensive player when on offense he puts you in an automatic 4v5?
@@Itssconnorr I legit said we appreciate Ben’s greatness. It’s just the fact he wouldn’t even attack the rim against the hawks. I like Ben, I wish he would stay but not if he going to be a ghost in the playoffs.
gained such a huge respect for bro hes so well spoken and gave such a heartfelt and meaningful insight! This coming from the guy who caught the ball after bens big moment! Rooting for this guys career!
Matisse' thoughts on Simmons agility is on point. Being able to put ball pressure full court on NBA guards and forwards isn't something that any big defender just learn. He is in tune with his body mechanics at all aspects of the basketball game.
This interview gave me so much more respect for matiesse, just for his ability to take responsibility for the whole situation. He’s a role player as of this moment but he for sure showed he can fill the role at the very least as a leader
As A Hawks fan I noticed Thybulle's fouls. In games 5 and 7. It happens. I think folks overreacted to that series loss TBH. Sometimes you lose playoff series when you have the talent to win a championship. Part of the game.
Danny Green going down was bigger then people talk about. One of Simmons best skills is finding a guy open for 3, so losing Green hurt in that way. Embiid was also on a bum knee. Imo, sixers win at full strength, but like you said it's part of the game. But on the other hand, when guys go down, all stars need to step up so that's I why I think it's all justified. Trae, Collins, Tobi, and Embiid all stepped up, Simmons did the opposite in a big big way.
@@intoxicatedandslighlyfaded534 Simmons was part of the problem, a big part, but don’t say they lost BECAUSE of Ben Simmons. We can’t ignore Tobias having 4 points with no free throw attempts, we can’t ignore Embiid having zero field goals made for a half, we can’t ignore the all bench lineups, we can’t ignore Danny Green guarding Trae in game one, we can’t ignore the foul Matisse made, heck, we can’t ignore any of the misses. Saying one player lost them a series in a team sport is frankly laughable. It’s a team sport and there where a million factors. They are a team and they lost as a team
The problem isn't that we don't appreciate what other skills he has on the court... it's the fact that he is reluctant to improve for his team and he is so arrogant about it. His statistics have regressed since his rookie year. He is reluctant to help others and do one thing that he is being played $200 million for
This! He would have NEVER been in trade talks, EVER, if he had actually worked on his game. That's it. That's all we asked for as Philly fans. To at least attempt to shoot in game. We didn't care if he'd make it, just wanted to see him try. If Giannis can, so can he. Or at least that's what we all thought....
I know I’m so sick of hearing how he’s “nitpicked” and it’s more than just lacking a few skills. The guy is a liability come playoffs which isn’t new, it goes beyond this year.
He got paid and got comfortable, hes earning the bag why does he need to improve?? It’s sad because it seemed like a good idea at the time to give him that contract. He’s just too soft sadly, and now his trade value is down in the dumps
@@shin267 I don’t even think it’s that tho because he was the same even before he got paid. Definitely arrogant and has no self awareness or takes accountability. He said in his interview “I am what I am” like that’s not a guy who is looking to improve or expand his game or work on the deficiencies. But yeah let’s praise and appreciate him for what he is like JJ said smh.
You know why we didn’t really talk, because MT plays hard on defense and he takes the shot!! Make or miss you just gotta have some balls and try. That’s what we respect and want out of our players on all 4 teams. Of course we were pissed at him for that foul that gave Trey 3 free throws but MT is our kind of guy here and we take the good and bad as long as we see heart and effort
@@paulokogbenin8470 smh. It's not that we always have an answer is that you guys want to put this narrative that we didn't support him and we did. If he would have came out and said I got to get better that's on me for not taking that dunk no one would have a problem with Ben. Instead he get's to the mic and say's "I am what I am". @@toshibaren y’all knew what he was when you drafted him tbh. He’s not perfect but he’s a damn good player and you should be able to win with him as is. @@paulokogbenin8470 what? lol now you have an answer for everything. How in the hell was anybody supposed to know five years into his career he wouldn't even attempt to shoot a jumper? In the history of the NBA no player has ever just refused to shoot. Cmon dude please have several seats.
The issue with Ben isn’t that he can’t shoot, it’s that he won’t even try. The straw that broke the camel’s back (and it’s a massive straw) is that he gave up on the team in the playoffs
The “nobody appreciates Ben for who ben is” take is old and honestly a bad one. He won rookie of the year. He a 2x-Allstar and All NBA. He was runner up for Defensive player of the year. He a Max contract player. He was even getting LeBron comparisons. And all anyone wants from him is to miss 2 3’s a game.
Yeah I can’t really agree with JJ when Ben wasn’t great in that series. And it’s probably a sign of things to come in when it comes to big playoff series. His weaknesses will be glaring. He certainly is great at some things but if they never show in the big moments, then it won’t ultimately matter.
Anybody expecting the guy to be a great outside shooter is expecting him to be the best player in the league BUT, can we at least count on they guy making free throws so that he can be an effective inside scorer? I get it, some Philly fans ask too much of the guy, but is scoring over 10 points in a playoff game when you are a max player on a contending team really too much to ask?
Bens made 33MM he can deal in the mountains away from everyone for the rest of his life is he so chooses. Work on your jumper and show up to your team. They are tired of waiting for the “process” to workout. He needs to ball!
@@brentoncole5488 I mean, part of the reason is that he isn't willing to fit. If he became a better shooter. Doesn't matter if it is 2 pointers or 3s. But I agree, he would fit so much better in a team like Golden State were they have good shooters.
@@brentoncole5488 I agree but where does he fit and would they be elite with him? I think he pairs great with a big that can shoot like KAT. Or an elite PnR scoring guard like Dame, Harden, Luka, Trae
He fits in a team the same way Gianis does, just surround him with shooters and let him play in the post. The problem is, Philly have the best post player in the NBA, so instead the philly crowd are bitching that he's not something he was never going to be. He's not a shooter. But he does everything else at an elite level!
Thank you all @ JJ Redick for having Matisse on to talk !! He and Tyrese Maxey are going to really help improve the 76ers. ☺ Sad how things worked out with Ben Simmons tho.. The Nets *could* also become a place where Ben struggles with the differences in approach between K D, Kyrie and coach Nash and how he fits, like in Philly. 🤔
"Let's appreciate Ben's greatness, instead of nitpicking his inability to pick up a core basketball skill despite being a max player." He was the #1 pick in 2016, guys. The sixers fanbase has been more than patient with him.
More patient thwn who? Steph was MVP Steph his first 4 seasons? what player is he supposed to be at 25? Embiid just learned how to play last year at an MVP level and just learned how to lead this year...2 years older...but you have more patients for him than Ben...why because Emblem smiles and dances more...can't be because he won you a championship or hasn't choked in big games...you just like Embiid more and it is reflected in how Ben vs Embiid is covered and allowed to persist as Sixers never put real vets in place to grow them up
as a Ben fan it’s not that he “lacks the skill” he seems to lack the will to become a better offensive player. With his current skill set the sixers will never win a title. As great as he is at other aspects, one of the most important skills for a primary ball handler is shooting. There’s no way where Shake Milton (no disrespect) should be taking more shots than Ben does.
Draymond Green is not a great shooter/scorer, but coupled with two great shooters, he has adapted and is a terrific offensive piece. He's a hall of famer for sure, and likely first ballot. Ben's skills are elite - he just needs a different team so that he's better utilized.
@@1970rsc Draymond Green is way better than Ben offensively because even tho he can't shoot that well he at least tries to shoot when he is open which keeps the defense honest and opens up the floor more for everyone else. Ben doesn't do that yet which holds him back imo. He doesn't even need to be good at shooting threes but if he will take the 1 or 2 a game that are wide open the defense will have to start guarding him at least a little out there and then the rest of the guys can have more room to operate

Stop babying Ben. This is why he’s been the same player since 2016. He’s literally supposed to be your best/second best player. It’s been 4 years man..
100%. We as fans have put up this for 5-6 years. His defense improved, cool. But the skills that matter are half court offense. He should walk into 20 ppg and can still involve everyone else in the offense. Others players do it, it’s not that hard for his talent lvl.
@Cuss Blackstone not even range. He lacks the basic will to attack. Giannis doesn’t have range but he attacks bc he’s the most athletic guy on the floor. Ben cowers in fear of being fouled bc he gets nervous at the FT line. And the fact he’s the main ball handler only amplifies that issue at the end of games.
Ben is literally a consistent mid range away from being top 5. I truly believe this. Most people don't actually watch basketball so when they see negative headlines, they can talk without knowing or even caring about context. If you've played and play basketball at an organized level growing up you learn to appreciate what makes other players great. Ben is in the nba which literally means hes one of the best players in the world, but the media and those who are "casuals" talk about him like he hasn't shown any legitimate talent on the court. Hes still young and confidence only goes up. He's improved literally every season. Multiple time allstar, an all nba player, elite ELITE defense and athleticism.
Everybody knows Ben Simmons is an elite talent. He is great defensively and at creating shots for his teammates. What everyone hates about him is that he doesn't try to move out of his comfort zone and try to attempt midrange shots and 3 pointers. Every off-season we see him shooting 3 pointers in work out videos and then when the season starts he takes only 3 in the whole season.
Dude averaged single digits while his team was upset in the playoffs. If I had Ben's athleticism I would be a better player than him, and i dont play more than once a week. The guy isn't a top 50 player in basketball

@@intendedexpression6609 I think Simmons could flip the switch at any time and be that great player. He has severe mental issues holding him back. He is afraid to fail. @@jas1565 They got rid of Al Horford, and played a line up of Embiid, Harris, Green and Curry around him, all capable of shooting threes, yet the team didn't look as deadly offensively as they should be because Simmons doesn't drive enough to the basket to create space for his teammates and he even gets in Embiid's way under the basket sometimes because he doesn't wanna be on the three point line receiving an open shot that he can't hit to save his life, you see, most of the issues happened because Ben wasn't an offensive threat.
"I made the foul" that's a good teammate right there, cuz he knows damn well the only reason he made the foul that lost the game was cuz Ben Simmons was too much of a p**** to take an open dunk. It definitely wasn't Matisse's fault.

Man Ben needs to work on his offensive game (hopefully he's doing that). Period. He has the tools. Nobody's asking him to average 30ppg. But develop a solid midrange pull-up J, shoot 70-75% from the FT line and at least be a 30% threat from the 3 point line. 20-22ppg along with his other abilities & stats helps a squad win several chips.
But bens “1 or 2 weaknesses” is so extreme. It’s unprecedented for a top pick to not shoot a 3 not even attempt one. That’s why people flock to that it’s so extremely unprecedented
Yeah I completely agree. Is so misleading to put his major flaws as "1 or 2" weaknesses". It's not like he's a beast at everything, but can't hit corner threes. The man is a black hole in the offence, his presence is inexistent and detrimental. Brushing it off as a small flaw is very disingenuous
Rod Strickland played 12 years in the NBA. I don't think he ever shot a three and no one ever called him out. I'm not sure that the three point shot has improved the game. Some athletes now are afraid to get close to the basket. They may encounter an elbow or two.
it's not that he is missing one skill. he's missing THE skill of shooting the ball which is pretty essential in a sport where the goal is to put a ball through a hoop. but even that would not be a problem if it was not your main ball handler. Ben is.
Not really. Clear the path to the basket. He can dump 40 when needed with others involved. Go back to the games without Embiid for evidence. Even playoffs if you like e.g 2018 vs Miami and 2019 vs Nets. The only occasion in Ben’s career he had to power the 76ers with a clear path to the basket (with no Embiid on most). 76ers won both series. Embiid tried once without Ben . Result = swept by the Celtics last year. Put both together it is a disaster.
Bro, there are dudes who are very impactful players and can’t shoot the ball. The only reason his shooting is magnified to the level it has been, is because of who he plays with. Yeah, he needs to improve his shot to be a more effective player, but the fit that he has with Embiid was never really going to work. But, imagine if he’d played with a guy who is more perimeter oriented? We would definitely not talk about his shot or lack of, as much.
