I’m married to a Chinese and at the time of the pandemic we lived in Tokyo. I was lucky enough to get a working visa to enter China but now I’m stuck in China and have no Idea when I will visit my family in Mexico again. The sacrifices we have to make as international couples are just .. heartbreaking.

Thank you for making this “mini documentary” of your trip back to China. My daughter was born in Sweden during corona period. She’s two and a half now and hasn’t met her grandparents in China yet. This made me cry 😭 i’m a Finn, married to an Indian guy and living in India, and I can so well relate to all these feelings, anxiety and grief. It’s way too difficult for my husband to get a visa especially a long-term one to Finland and currently I’m in a situation where I’ve been waiting for my own visa extension for 8 months already and can’t exit India without a valid visa or an exit permit in which case I wouldnt even know if I’d be able to return. All the while waiting for a permanent spouse visa which I was supposed to get last year already… I have only spent one month in my native country and with family in the 3 years which is all the more heartbreaking since we had our first child in Feb 2021. I’m so happy you’re slowly making a comeback. I love your videos, they’re a huge comfort and inspiration ❤️

I am a mixed couples son :) My parents had many hurdles on their way, at that time the iron curtain was separating the world and my mother was an East German citizen and my father a foreign studen in Eastern Germany. But thanks to their patience and endurement through paperwork and lots of bureucracy they managed to go to my fathers country and settle there ... so there I saw the light of this world 😉 I grew up in three cultures, the andean culture with our indian language, the latino culture and from my mother I learned german. We even managed as a family during the cold war to go for vacacions to the GDR, at that time quite an adventure with three children and those hours and hours of control at the border between eastern and western Germany. But thanks to this back ground story I had much curiosity about the world and travelled and lived in many places....... So Miriam, you are giving your children a big gift, they are truly blessed... Wish you and your family all the best.

So glad you guys managed to go back to China safely! I'd received a tremendous amount of emotional support from your videos early last year when my then fiance and I had to live apart in 2 different countries - him in Japan and me in Singapore as he lost his job in Singapore and couldn't find another before his visa expired. We took the risk last year too when the quarantine in Singapore got extended from 14 to 21 days and his initial flight got rescheduled, meaning he had to cancel the flight to book another airline so he could come into Singapore within the stipulated period. We're now married so he has a proper visa to stay here without having to worry of the possibility of having to leave the country if he ever lose his job again. The 5 months apart and 3 months prior where he was frantically trying to find a job was really tough so I can only imagine the mental and emotional toll this process must have taken on you. I really enjoy watching the videos of you and your mother-in-law these days! :)

Another pandemic could just be around the corner, our planet is in dire need of rescue, but with governments around the world completely refocused to bickering and accusing each other and raising tensions we did not need in the first place, it is up to ourselves taking care of each other.

One advice for future travels: Look for indirect flights. Check which countries you can fly to from your country (e.g. Sweden) and from which countries you can fly from (e.g. into China). You may have to buy separate tickets for each destination. Of course, the expenses go higher but you don’t have to wait for a year.

Thank you for an amazing film Miriam - I could watch your content for hours. You are an amazing storyteller and videographer. What a harrowing journey for you as a family. So happy everything worked out! Why do countries make it so hard for families to be together? Perhaps it wouldn't have been so difficult if not for COVID. What a lovely reunion with Yonghong's family. It was so heartwarming it brought tears to my eyes. Yonghong's mother is such a lovely lady. And grandpa so happy so see his two grandson's. What a wonderful feast to welcome you back! So happy for you and the family. Love and blessings to you.

This was so emotional and raw to watch. Thank you for sharing the journey with us. My husband and I came back to England during covid and my son was born here and is now two. He still hasn’t met his Chinese grandparents and we don’t know when that will be. I just hope it can be soon, but ticket prices are so crazy.

I totally I told my husband if I didn’t love him I wouldn’t marry him because immigration is no joke in America especially when your husband is from a country that usually doesn’t get a visa to come here!

OMG! You two are amazing. Just by thinking of the so many “tasks” before getting on the flight back to China is already so stressful! My son is nearly 3, haven’t got chance to meet his grandparents. But you two managed bring two boys with so much challenges! May God bless your family! Have a lovely loooooooong holiday and family gathering! All the best
