I really appreciate you sharing this build with the world. I promised my Mom I'd make her a cremation urn for my step-father. I'm relatively new to woodworking and while I built a sturdy prototype box, I'm not entirely thrilled with the concept enough to use the nice hardwood I purchased for the project. I'm hoping some of the joinery techniques and finish feature methods you used here will help me over the hump. I feel terrible having not finished this project yet, but it's quite a heavy responsibility to create one's final resting place. Thanks again. I'm a new subscriber and am looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Nicely done, some nice techniques in there as well. Nice to see cnc being used to assist instead of being the whole project. Have a great Christmas.

One thing I have learned about urns that your viewers may need to know. Allow one cubic inch for each pound the person weighed when they passed, then add 10% to calculate the volume of the box.

I like the shape of the legs. Maybe try wiping varnish instead of poli. Easier to control. Very nice job!

Try using a Fritz & Franz jig for your slider to securely hold small pieces.

those are beautiful . urns and cremation will outnumber traditional coffin burials , current cemeterys are running near full capacity . i have not heard of any new boneyards being built recently.

Would love to have this man build one of these for my dad a Vietnam Vet who passed away, this is beautiful and I wish I had the tools to build it myself for him but I don’t and don’t want to buy just any urn, as this custom piece would be amazing as he was a woodworker his entire life. can someone help me get one built like this please?
@RobinLewisMakes

They look awesome mate! Could you go into more detail how you grain fill in a future video? Only recently heard about this technique
@KingPostTimberWorks
@KingPostTimberWorks 5 лет назад
I don't really care that much about grain filling as I'm not really ever after a glass smooth surface. Essentially just add a bunch of some clear filler (shellac,polyurethane,epoxy) and scrape/sand back until you have a dead flat and smooth panel. Then add the desired finish. Curly veneer tends to have a deeper open grain that can feel different from solid timber.

Nice panel saw! I don't think I could make something like that, too creepy. Cool build though.

If it’s okay with you I’d like to make something similar for my wife’s ashes. She died in 2010 we’ll do her funeral when we do mine. I really like the legs & I’ll try to copy. I’ll have to do it the hard way, don’t have a CNC machine. We’ll make it work Thank you Sir

Hi, Joey. I have a question: Does the natural expansion of the woods (veneer and wood board where the veneer is glued) cannot cause cracks because they can be of different expansions? Did you do something to avoid this possibility? In addition, it was very beautiful. I follow always and like your work. Congratulations! Merry Christmas and a Great New Year!
@KingPostTimberWorks
@KingPostTimberWorks 5 лет назад
Hi, so this is a big question. Firstly when veneering timber you must ad veneer to both sides to stabilize the board. Ideally use quarter sawn timber to minimize expansion . Remember the smaller the board the less it will move

Are good tips, Joey. Thanks for the reply!!
