I do apologise for shitposting. Apart from it being out of tune slightly, I do thank you for taking the time to post this up. I believe this is the only lesson for 3 Libras on RU-vid.
It's all good and I don't even have the energy to re watch the video and verify your complaint. You're welcome on the lesson and I like getting feedback.
After the second complaint I just gave it a listen. If anything at all I would call it slightly out of tune. De tuning a guitar that much without changing the string gauge makes the strings pretty sloppy to credit the tuning issue. But if it works better I can just delete this lesson so I don't torture anyone else on here having to hear this horribly tuned guitar.
I just play it on standard running beginning with an Am and then go up from there. I've been playing it wrong for so long that it sounds wrong any other way I play it.
I tried tuning those open strings to those notes, but it sounded extremely off. Should I tune to those notes while I'm pressing down on the strings? I know this is a super newb question, apologies. Thank you so much for this tutorial, one of my favorite songs.
+Jill Valentine Definitely tune without pressing on the strings. Double check that you have all the notes that you're trying to tune to right? It could be too low of a tuning for your guitar setup??
It's very possible it's just a symptom of the slack I your strings from tuning to C# but your G(or E in this tuning) sounds like you've got a high spot on a fret somewhere down the neck. A lot of people commented on the guitar being out of tune but it was the sitar-like buzz on the G that was throwing me off. Also, as a side note, try plucking over the fretboard closer to the respective harmonic nodes for whatever notes you're fretting to get an even warmer, more bell or harp-like tone on this.
Personally I've debated deleting this video cause of all the tuning complaints, but it has so many views I'm just going to let it ride and take the repeat tuning comments/complaints. Definitely no high frets, just me detuning super light strings way lower than they're capable and not being super precise on my tuning and set up.
rpguitarvideos Yeah I figured it was just the drop to C# and the G string is the problem child of the guitar to begin with. Don't sweat the criticisms man, the instruction here is solid, and that's what matters. Your intonation is going to suffer under that little tension at that scale length no matter what. I saw the guitarist for Chicago once accidentally break the neck of his strat during an encore, and pull it back into place, holding tension with his left hand while finishing the song. You know what didn't matter at that point? His freaking intonation! We were just stunned to see such a feat, nobody was sitting there going "yeah but he's a little flat..." Same here. People that are coming to learn the song will appreciate the material you've given. People that are just looking to criticise are going to find something regardless.
For sure and I appreciate it, if it wasn't so much work to do videos I would set the guitar up properly for that tuning and redo the lesson. Im sure that was site to see and hear, thanks for sharing the story!
The tabs should be right...I did think about it but it's more enjoyable to read comments from illiterate idiots that don't pay attention to text...hahahah. Definitely not my best work and IMO not worth redoing but I probably should.....but No one would probably watch the one in tune...
Good job on this lesson. On my guitar I have problems with pulling my g & b strings sharp sometimes even at e standard. Tuning down makes it even trickier. (And I am strung with cobalt 11-54s) Anyway this is an excellent lesson and people can learn from this even if it is slightly off tune. Please leave this posted because you are helping many people. Cheers! V
Definitely make sure you have your truss rod and a proper setup for the strings and tuning. Ya I shot this video with extra light strings detuned way to low for the capability and is part of why the tuning is so bad. I'm not perfect so I'll leave this flawed lesson ride! hahaha! Thanks!!!
this is undoubtedly a dumb question but where exactly do i put my fingers for the power chords and are some muted? i looked up power chords online but only got me more confused because there are so many and im all new to this
haha I was just thinking its not setup right and not in tune. for a lot of APC songs on Acoustic is better set up with a lower action Esp for A stranger where you need the bottom string to ring out with the stretch to the string above it. nice video though.
For sure and If I were to turn back time and do the lesson again I would just use the heaviest strings available and properly set it up. I think these were 10-47....a tuning disaster waiting to happen! hahahaha!
Kidneptune I know I'm a bit late but the reason it was different in because it was a COVER. When you play a cover song it's supposed to be slightly different than the original but with your own taste. Otherwise it will be just you coping the song.
I just started playing and I love APC! I'm having trouble picking up the strum pattern for the chords. Could you write it out for me? Awesome video thank you for sharing!
Those power chords got me so confused. With my guitar tuned to standard tuning (because I don't know how to tune to other tunings) it sounds so weird compared to what you play in the video. Help? Thank you for the video it helped me to learn most of the song (except for the power chords) And yes I'm a biginner, first song to learn
Ya you would have to move everything down a few frets to find the same key. I would say just try learning the positions for now and when you're ready to de tune you'll be ready to go!
Orbital Fusion Im not completely sure, I would guess by calling it C# tuning. You're de-tuning all the strings equally which maintains standard tuning chord shapes but it just lowers the overall key of the guitar.
Wow, I mean, I know tool/apc/Maynard fans can be dicks but God damn. Even with the very real and logical flaw of tuning down lighter gage strings. Any way, I appreciate the video, a lot of the tabs online had this wrong. And sometimes it just helps to see someone play it. Thank you.
You forgot the part that they can't read either! hahaha! You're welcome and glad to help out! I've debating deleting it but the lesson is right...but my tuning is awful hahahaha!
I'm defenetly made for listening to music no to play it. Everytime I grab a guitare it rapidly piss me off. My fingers hurts, it sound creepy, and I really hate that. I know it's all about pratice. 10 years ago was able to play some notes from some music, but now i can't even plays three note without creating an ugly sound. I guess some are made for and some don't.
Practice. People don't like to read it, they want instant results but with guitar it's only as instant as you make it. I had to practice daily for a month before I noticed my fingers were good for pressing down on strings for long enough to hold notes in chords. Keep at it - even if it pisses you off because it sounds "creepy". I found that I would look for something I wanted to learn to play, would try to play it, couldn't make it sound right, the chords were too hard to play, whatever, I'd give it a damn good shot and see if I could play it, and if I couldn't, I just moved on to something else. Learning under your own pressure is a lot easier with instruments than being taught at school or college or whatever. Keep at it and you'll have things sounding right soon enough - so long as you don't notice the time you're taking to get it done. Things appear to work quicker that way.
Hi, I have to tell you something that would've helped me a lot years ago. I think you're one of those perfectionists that give up when something doesn't go well in the first try. I am one of those. When I played guitar, if it didn't sound good, I gave up. Obviously Smoke On The Water sounded terrific, but I wanted to play more songs and I just wanted it perfect ASAP. I gave up and now there isn't anything in the world that I regret more than that. I picked up guitar seriously some months ago and I know how to play songs and rhythms that I didn't think I was able to play. I don't know if you love music as much as I or other people love it, but if you do and you give up, you might regret it.
Otherwise it was the best one out there ;) Totally learned it, but would love to hear you play the whole thing, so it was not to put you down, but more of a serious request ^_^
What mic did you use to record this? I suggest stop using it whatever it was. I'm not trying to be rude, or troll or anything. Its just really Tiny sounding, and its totally not you or the guitar. If you used the guitar plug, I wouldn't be surprised of this is the 214ce it has a terrible pickup. But i feel like you used a smart phone or standard camera mic.
Oh OK. Your doing fantastic!, it just sounded really odd in my studio and headphones. An SM57 and a cheap interface ran simultaneously would be a big improvement. But I understand your budget issues.
Thanks and I agree it's not the greatest overall sound on these and I appreciate the suggestion. Doing these lessons for free I have keep the work load as simple and manageable as possible.
Naaaa man. Your doing a great job!video quality is fantastic, voice sounds good, great editing too. Just some notes are tin can sounding. Especially the G string (f in this case?). I'd mail you my MXL mics , but they won't be much better. My best gear is loaned. Lol. I enjoy what your doing though. Keep up the good work.
Thanks a lot! Maybe down the road I can get a really good setup and ya that 214 is a bit buzzy at times for sure. Check out my mr brightside lesson that I just finished this past week and see what you think? I upgraded my acoustic and used my behringer pa to amplify the sound a bit.
I appreciate the warning but I've got to ask, didn't you hear how incredibly out of tune you were while recording the video? Or when you listened to it before posting? It is not "a bit out of tune", it is out of tune to the point of being unlistenable. If I were you I would redo it out of self-respect and respect for the song. You can obviously play so do yourself a favor and bury this with a shovel and then bury the shovel. I don't mean to be harsh, I really don't, but I couldn't even make it through the first minute and a half. Sorry, man. Peace to you, all the same.
You saw the warnings and still wrote a mini novel comment and still watched the video... I refuse to redo the lesson and I thought of just deleting it but people keep watching it...so for that enjoy the super out of tune 3 libras lesson.
@@rpguitarvideos Seven sentences is a mini-novel to you? Okay, whatever. And I didn't watch the video as I could only endure 90 seconds of it. As for your adamant refusal to redo it, that's fine by me. Had I of known that you had such a high embarrassment threshold I would have never brought it up in the first place.
I had to detune so much for this song that it gave me set up problems, and in return a slightly out of tune lesson. I'm not asking you to take me seriously, but I will ask you to go away. Bringing it to my attention is one thing, but being a know it all mr perfect douche is another.
Disable the comments on your videos if you can't handle constructive criticism. I never claimed to be perfect at all, but my guitar is in tune. Making mistakes with a song is one thing and not a big deal but I mean you can't seriously be telling me that an out of tune guitar doesn't matter.
I would never disable my comments, I like when guys like you who hide behind made up screen names and profiles continue to comment. You should go spend some time on periscope if you don't already. And for a free lesson, that obviously isn't "perfect", no it doesn't matter enough for me to fix it or redo it.
