These guys had no idea how truly lucky they were. 1. A beautiful song 2. Maynard in front 3. Paz on violin 4. Freese on drums 5. Danny lohner playing bass Just amazing performance all around!
@@drdoodoo1284 Yes, but billy is always there, he's the key to APC. To have an early performance with Maynard front and center, Freese who is a great drummer there, Danny who is a great musician and character, to have Paz there, a great musician playing violin, those little things that aren't very regular are special I think. All in all, a great performance.
A 14 year old black girl from the ghetto of Brooklyn….this album helped me understand myself so much more back then…I love this band and Tool so much. I’m in tears right now remembering how this music empowered me
+herostatus My thoughts exactly!!! Maynard is NEVER front and center and looking into the audience at ANY shows I've been to! Those people were lucky and I sure wish I was there...this is my most favorite version of this song...pure perfection all the way around!!!
Yeah really! I had tickets to see Tool then at The Ritz in Raleigh NC with my boyfriend but we couldn't go...I'm still pissed off that we didn't go!!!!! :(
***** you learn control before you let it go. Always. First step: control. Second step: throw it all out the window and wail. Never mix them up or go to step two first. First and foremost, Maynard had wonderful control. He uses that control to go gaga and make us melt.
Yes!! Exactly!!....so much natural talent..when this song and many other apc circle songs cams out At first I heard on out radio stations in ohio...I went n bought their cd's and I can't tell u how much these guys helped me through stuff in my 20's n I'm here still reminiscing....still helps me thru hard times to this day
The weird thing for me is how everyone doesn't appreciate songs the same way - this is so perfect. Others don't get chills while listening to music, and I feel bad for them.
I first heard this song in 6th grade when this performance aired and I was shook up! I had to do all kinds of research to finally find the band and eventually this song, in those days without smart phones📱 and having to use☎️ dial up 💻if I was lucky!🤩🤣. It still gives me chills. 😎🧠🔊🎶💯
This was exactly the performance that pulled me in forever.. Was at a friend's house, tv was on, this came on, and I was HOOKED forever! 2000.... Very nostalgic.
When you put this song on repeat, you create a flawless shape that smoothly brings you back to where you started. It's like some kinda, dare I say, perfect circle.
I like the fact that you are a black man but has good taste in music and not stuck in the attitude that this is white people's music. I listen to all music. Well almost all. Love it when I see one of my black brothers listens to tool or a perfect circle. Much love and respect
That cameraman has to be a fan of this song! Notice how right on cue they kept switching between Maynard and the drummer at the perfect drumming and vocal point in the beginning of the song.
April Davalos you must not know much about tv production. these shows are taped and aired later in the evening (they have to edit things out all the time). most all musical acts will have rehearsal time. each camera is assigned a number. oh just go watch a video on behind the scenes stuff. not trying to be rude, just informative.
J Davis along with getting licenses to play the song on air. Wether standard tv production went into editing sometimes you can tell extra attention went into editing this video.
Better than the studio recording? To me it's a toss up, I like the louder violin in this version, the louder/heavier guitar in the studio version. But both versions are great. But as far as a live performance of the song goes, I couldn't ask for any better. Both are certainly better than the god awful remix they've been playing live for years now.
around this time I was a teenager experimenting with shrooms and going out to the mountains to hike while listening to this song took me to a heavenly out of body place.
Maynard is one of those artist that sounds amazing... but even better live. I love that about him. Also just the passion he always has, its apparent he still enjoys and appreciates being able to do what he does.
Agreed he is unbelievably amazing and my appreciation for him sharing all this amazing music for so many yrs. Just hearing any tool song can take me right to exact moments and memories just like they were yesterday's. and over 20 yrs. Of just kicking ass all over this world
Ever since Sean Yseult on bass for White Zombie I've become a huge fan of women in Rock. Paz is by far my favorite. Even if she played a cowbell with a drumstick or shook a pot of beans!
I cant get enough watching this.. the heartbreak in his voice gets me every time.. his performance was flawless.. I can die now hearing the greatest song I ever heard. I found this recording online and it is now on my ipod on repeat.. the violin is so beautiful and I love how his voice echos.. I just found something perfect in an imperfect world. wow
LYRICS: Threw you the obvious And you flew with it on your back A name in your recollection Down among a million same Difficult not to feel a little bit Disappointed and passed over When I look right through To see you naked but oblivious And you don't see me But I threw you the obvious Just to see if there's more behind The eyes of a fallen angel Eyes of a tragedy Here I am expecting Just a little bit too much from the wounded but I see, see through it all See through, see you 'Cause I threw you the obvious to see what occurs behind the Eyes of a fallen angel Eyes of a tragedy Oh well, oh well Apparently nothing Apparently nothing at all You don't, you don't, you don't see me You don't, you don't, you don't see me You don't, you don't, you don't see me You don't, you don't, you don't see me You don't see me You don't, you don't You don't see me at all
you are 100% accurate. NO one can match him artistically or vocally in my opinion. there are no words for it really... he's that f'n man through and through.
This song is one of my all time faves. This isn't like other songs that you get tired of after you hear it so many times....whenever this song comes on, I drop everything, close my eyes and sing along lol.
You just know that when this aired that whoever had never known of A Perfect Circle or of Maynard, they were immediately thinking, "What the hell. Who are these guys? This is epic." within 10 seconds of Maynard's first note. This particular song is so geared and designed for both the commercial market and a composer's appreciation.
I shit you not I've watched this video at least 5 times in a row. Takes me back. I fell deeply in love with the most beautiful women I have ever known while listening to this. We were so passionate and so young. Didn't work out but the memories remain. I'll always love this song
I come back to this beautiful performance with my father in palliative care and not showing one ounce of remorse or contrition for the wrongs he has done to many people. Life sucks sometimes but hearing this reminds me of the beauty of life.
My father died last night..... “Here I am expecting just a little bit too much From the wounded but I see through it all and see you” Getting no closure sucks!
Band looks amazing, sounds amazing, the stage setup, the voice echo synthesis... all came together to create a mind-blowing atmosphere. The song itself is absolutely heart breaking, and I'm sure everyone that was familiar was bawling with a strange mixture of sadness and joy that only a perfect circle can produce.
Over the past 2 years I've been looking after my dad. I've also watched Dementia slowly take him from me. This song has been and always will be a source of great inspiration to me. Because there were days when I could genuinely say "You don't see me at all".
This performance is the most incredible thing musically that listened. To in my life is 36 y/O and nothing passes it do far ive watched his voice makes me wanna cry and thats last time thats happend I was a baby. This is special and its the best virsion of this song in my opinion. Maynard is something eles !
All bands that appear on late night TV do that. They come as they are, they don't come wearing suits and ties for the TV (as long as they wear something that will pass TV censors).
What a beautiful song!!! Got to love how they play such a masterpiece like this. This one will never be replicated. I’ve never seen a song that fits so perfectly. From the guitars to Paz’s violin. This is perfect
the authenticity of Maynard's voice is really very special. He's able to convey such a rich spectrum of emotional subtlety in all his performances, this is what I think draws people to his work. His tonality, range and vocal personality is unmistakable.
