James Iha's screaming heart breaking guitar in the back ground is what makes this song for me. It is haunting and mesmerizing at the same time fills in perfectly within Billy's lead guitar
@@GRYNGE7 One hundred % completely agree. I love that Maynard is always evolving as a writer and musician (Even though I think Billy writes most the lyrics for APC, but I'm sure Maynard has say. Anyways I was saying I love his evolution and kind of starting with Pushit on Salival and APC's Emotive album with covers and reimaginings of their songs. Puscifer released whole albums that were just remixed and reimagined pretty much all their back catalog, but that was all an overly long winded way of saying this is one song just fine the way it is.
Billy Howerdel is one of the most underrated guitar players and composers in music today. Alone, none of the parts would make much sense, but together they create such an atmosphere that can take you to far away places. Add Maynard's vocals to the composition, and it becomes otherworldly.
Completely agree. It’s Billy’s band, Maynard just sings in it. Listening to APC at 2am on New Year. Ive only seen them twice but i love the musicianships Billy invites, it’s like he pushes the others to beautiful heights. Must be incredible playing with him.
I remember hearing this at first in the radio back in 2013 i used to think "this is so lame and boring" turns out i was lame and my taste was boring. I now love this song so much. Crazy how a few years change your mind about things. A Perfect Circle is one of the best bands ive ever heard.
@@bmiller5713 I was there, too. I really get annoyed watching the video (stone and echo, which this was a part of), because the editing has a new shot every one or two seconds. Nothing like the experience, imo. At least the music is intact.
@acatnamedscamper3307 they are great but mjk is the greatest singer and song writer from the 90s or 2000s and second best isn't close and he is still doing it only front man I can even put close to this man is Layne
EVERYTHING MJK does onstage has a meaningful purpose. Standing on the side in the dark has a purpose. To not focus on him but the music. Not all rock stars prance and bounce around. He is very humble. He knows what he's doing and it's for entertainment. He is a great musician, wonderful artist, and a pure genius!
If you think he's humble then you clearly don't know maynard watch like..any of his older interviews. And he DOES dance in most of the tool live shows. I'm not saying that any of these things makes him a bad person.. all it does is make him more original than all the posers out there... He does serve the song everytime and he is my idol.
Saw them a few months ago and wondered why he was in the back. Your reasoning makes a lot of sense now. Although i wouldve liked to see him at least once up close
This is music at its most beautiful...this is art. This is transcendent this is almost an awakening I honestly am left speechless from the greatness that is A Perfect Circle.
smoke a little joint before listening and you feel the voices, the music much more intensive and you really think, that you are flying over the world... better than 3 weeks holidays...
So many emotions listening to this.... A perfect circle came into the perfect time of my life back in college...so many memories...got to see them live in Atlanta at the Tabernacle 20 years ago....
I see those people who attended this live are lucky af. God! I don't know if they'll play the loop of songs ever again in a live like this. Absolutely brilliant, maynard taking the back seat being the front man. It's like the voice comes from the back of the head
O god if u have just found them amd havent heard their album thirteeenth step, u absolutely must drop everything u are doing and put a pair of head phones in ur head and let the noise of that album be a shotgun and blow ur head off lol because it will
Maynard is always in the back with little light on him. He doesn't want the focus to be on him & wants people to focus on what he feels is important, the music. He would do the show from backstage if it was up to him I'm sure.
@@Garumongo Yeah, big stage fright. He used to be front and center in the Aenima days and earlier. Not just front and stage, but in drag wearing fake tits. I suppose that was his way of making the situation ridiculous, so less scary. Then perhaps as Maynard realised just how serious of a band they were despite the often mocking lyrics, he preferred to keep the tone and mood of the performance in line with his music. The logical next step being to stand in a place that makes you less anxious.
@@Adam-tp8py he developed some condition where the lights mess with his balance. That’s why he is wearing sunglasses during this set. All his bands have to program multiple light shows I’m case he gets sick he signals the light tech and they switch to one to keep the lights off him.
@Cynthia May >Maynard has anxiety >Maynard wants to feel comfortable and make light of the situation >Dress ridiculously >Situation solved Where am I wrong?
This is so beautiful!! The thing that makes Maynard so alluring is how he in the shadows you just hear his gorgeous voice coming out of the darkness connecting you to the music.💕
Every time I see and listen to this...the song just moves me. It's beautiful. Every member of the band makes this beautiful. If you didn't like By and Down on Three Sixty I strongly recommend looking at this version because the "live" element makes the song even more soulful.
Me too. Its terribly sad and hopeless sounding(mostly the lyrics), but filled with love at the same time. It must be how it feels to have a son, daughter or family member when they make it hard for you to love them.
Ah, here comes the snobby elite. Heaven forbid I just enjoy a good song. Besides, just because the message in the lyrics is somber doesn't mean there isn't beauty in the craft and execution of the music.
And I'm still here, hearing this song that helps me to understand that the way I was living it was destroying me. This song helped me to move on, and to realize that my little daughter needs me. Now I have a couple of years clean
To me, this is a song about living with someone who's abused you and you're finally waking up as their mask slips and they show their true colors. My mom is a narcissist and this song and passive are my songs to her. It reminds me she will never change and I made the right decision going no contact last September.
I can remember August 1st, 2011 at Kingsbury Hall SLC, UT like it was yesterday... It was the first time this song hit my ears. It was a very surreal moment.
Fucking....wow! How anyone doesn't like this song or any of the new tracks on Eat the Elephant is absolutely crazy. This song and the new album are an absolute masterpiece.
As far as the Eat The Elephant version is concerned, it's a re-recorded version of a song that came out on their compilation CD back in 2013. Aside from this one song, people are divisive on the latest album regardless (I personally enjoy it though)
@@davazz9586I wanted to call bs but you sir are correct lol. I knew it wasn’t freeze because I was there but I wanted it to be him in my memory and had to look it up to verify.
Great performance. I saw these guys just before the new album came out. Amazing. Not gonna lie the album took me a couple of listens but I absolutely love it particularly this song
Moving in and out of the shadows Its no easier mission Holding onto how I picture you Showing only bits and pieces Till the tide betrays you and your empty allocution Searching your eyes for a hint or a trace of humility Searching your eyes for the saint is an act of futility Searching your eyes for a hint or a trace of it searching your eyes for humility searching your eyes for a hint or a trace I'm still searching searching Showing all the missing pieces Till the light betrays you and your empty allocution Saw the Piper by and down the river Caught his crippled alchemy From pounding waves of adoration Pied Piper float on down the river Bloated carcass crippled me The weight of adoration Moving in and out of the shadows Its no easy mission Holding on to how I picture you.
The atmosphere of the song is beautiful it makes me feel relax, the voice the guitar, the drums, everything here fits. APC its a new band for me and all the songs I've listened of they, have its own feel and atmosphere

Amazing! I wouldn't expect nothing less from these incredible musicians (magicians). You can't explain to anyone how euphoric it is to see and hear them live. As well as TOOL. Love.
Man who ever mixed this, my god hats off. Just absolutely phenomenal because listening closely u can hear every instrument fucking perfectly and it all flows and weaves its emotional web together to snag its ear prey lol.. to create that which is a perfect circle. Absolutely jaw dropping
I've had the privilege to to see this band live and hear them perform this song.... let me just say I can officially die a happy girl 🖤🤘🏼 But with that being said, APC or Tool must come back to Texas!
Awesome song. I will never ceased to be amazed at the musical artist that Maynard is. His wide range of musical skill is amazing. We can only hope for a new album of his soon, preferably Tool.
Just seems like a logical step for James Iha. Smashing Pumpkins to A Perfect Circle. You have to be an emotional masochist to enjoy their music. All their music cuts deep...
Stunning. Takes me back to early Marillion. The stunning artistry, musicianship, emotion, songwriting. Was lucky enough to see APC in 2001 and 2018. It's hard to stand there and take it all in in the presence of such talent.
Best song on "Eat The Elephant", IMO. Thank You so VERY MUCH Maynard, Billy, & all of APC. I still would love another album like "Mer De Noms", PLEASE!
