Maynard has all 3 bands, Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. One does not replace the other at any time, they've run concurrent for some time.

Billy Howerdel is the musical driving force behind APC. Maynard is obviously a huge part of that process. Billy was Adam’s guitar tech for a period of time. Which is how he met Maynard.

If you recall, Judith was Maynard’s mother (he also has a wine named after her under his label/vineyard Cadeuceus Cellars) who was a devout follower of Christ. There’s quite a bit of religious related themes throughout lots of Maynard’s lyrics.

Jimmy, Judith, The Patient, 10,000 Days/Wings for Marie are all about his mother having an aneurysm we he was a boy. She lived about 27 years after that (10,000 Days). EDIT: you may hear some "TOOL" in there. The lead guitarist was once Adam Jones' guitar tech.

This song was released in 2000. Which is why you feel the early 2000’s feel. This was after Aenima. You would probably enjoy Billy’s solo album that was just released.

P.S. APC was/is Billy Howerdel's band. He wrote the songs, by and large, and his talent cannot be overstated.

Fun fact about this music video it was directed by David Fincher who directed Fight Club & Se7en. You can tell by its distorted film effects.

His ability to sustain a note is legendary.

Song is about his mother who was bound to a wheelchair but still had tremendous faith in God even though he's the one that put her there.

APC, nice! You should definitely check out more of their stuff. They generally have a much more chill vibe than Tool that might resonate with you more. For Tool and APC, Maynard doesn't really have much influence when it comes to the music composition. He might contribute a bit more for APC than Tool, but I'm not too sure about that. I know that Tool composes their music first, then Maynard comes and puts vocals to it. I know that he has a lot more influence in the music with his third band, Puscifer. That one is more of his own pet project and experimental. All his bands are great and pretty different from each other. I would recommend the song "The Remedy" by Puscifer, if you want to check that band out. As for APC, I would recommend "3 Libras", "The Hollow", or "The Outsider", but they have a lot of great songs.

Such a beautiful, powerful song. I was very fortunate to have APC in 2000 when Mer de Noms came out. They opened for NIN at MSG in NYC. STUNNING. First time seeing MJK sing live then the following year the mighty, incomparable Lateralus was released. Too see APC then Tool in less than a year was just the best. Wow. Good choice for an intro to APC.

You really need to do some research on Maynard’s history with his mother to really start to understand the deep meaning of this song Judith which was his mother. And songs that your going to be reacting to in the near future get heavy in meaning and a lot of his writing comes from his rough childhood and his mother being paralyzed when he was at the age of 11. You’ll grow an even stronger appreciation of his writing.

i was in love with this song within the first 5 seconds the first time i heard it. the drums, the guitar... just beautiful. and then the powerful vocals on top. so good. i still feel the same way about it after all these years. all of mer de noms and thirteenth step remain close to my heart and get replayed regularly.

Perfect Circle was a project of Tools guitar tech. Maynard is an intrical part of all of his bands. If you want a lady influenced band check out Jinjer. They blow your mind.

This APC song has been one of the slowest growers for me. But it'd fantastic, especially when you understand the lyrics and where Maynard was at this point in his life. Billy Howerdel on Guitar and backing vocals also had a band called Ashes Divide and put out one album. It's worth a go.

In my opinion everything Maynard is a part of is gold. Tool, APC, and Puscifer are all tied for my favorite bands of all time. The first time I heard Judith was on the radio and I was jamming out to the intro then heard Maynard's voice start singing and I ran a red light. It was different but I loved it. Went to the mall and bought the CD right away and was blown away. Puscifer took me a minute to really get into. It was totally different but after listening to it more and more and hearing the harmonies with Carina and seeing some interviews about the experiment of getting out different voices and exploring different musical elements gave me a better appreciation for them. I highly recommend checking out "The Remedy" to get a taste of them.

Weird trivia: Maynard wasn't Billy's first choice as a vocalist for this project. Most of the tunes were written with Fiona Apple in mind as a potential singer.

Kind of marching back to the 1970's, sounds so familiar with that rhythm. Yep, listenable but nothing new. 🎵 (BTW - Congrats on the 20k 🥳)

The lead guitarist, billy howerdel, used to be guitar tech for tool. That’s how Maynard met him. All the music was written and recorded by billy before Maynard got involved. He only does vocals. Same goes for tool. He isn’t involved in any of the music writing. The other members write and record all music before Maynard writes vocals. He has never heard the songs before he writes vocals to them.

Maynard is A Perfecr Circle. On the next album some members were replaced. Only person that remained from the start is Billy Howerdel.

Maynard wrote ALL the vocals, I think. A Perfect Circle, a super band with artists from other bands, but, different. My feeling is, A Perfect Circle, TOOL, Pusifer, all Maynard James Keenan projects, all feel like a whole of musical genre. I can listen to them all together on shuffle. Enjoy you discovery. The bands are separate from Manard himself. They write the music and send it to him and he writes the lyrics. In addition to the winery, he operates he stays very6 busy. There is a really good interview with him by Rick Beato, I highly recommend it.

From 2000 and Maynard wore many different wigs with APC. Paz, bassist also played violin for the band and was with the band up until their none major remix albums(2004) Cool chick though.

I am pretty sure that the Maynard DNA is much better represented in his 3rd band 'Puscifer'. In my book, APC is a very distant 3rd place for me. TOOL and Puscifer being one and two. Those two are neck and neck. I feel that puscifer is much more of a Maynard (and Carina and Mat) expression than the other two bands.

APC is the baby of Billy Howerdel, the guitarist. Maynard just adds lyrics...he may have some input on final mixing but he does not write any of the instrumentation. Fun fact...Billy actually wanted a female lead vocalists but the woman he had in mind, my apologies I can't remember her name, but she was unavailable. So Maynard stepped in. And the reason Maynard was available was due to a major legal dispute between Tool and their record label. Tool had never split, just on a delay. And due to the way Tool writes and records their music(the band completes everything before Maynard adds lyrics), he also has plenty of time during the process. Keep diving into all things Maynard!! No project is the same and it's all entertaining, each expressing a different part of his mental makeup

Maynard is more involved in Puscifer which is his baby much like APC is Billy Howerdel baby. Also a lot of Puscifer has a female vocalist singing with Maynard on most tracks.

It's been brought up in a past interview in regards to Tool where Maynard claimed to be waiting on his bandmates to finish the music so he could write lyrics and record vocals. So as far as influence in the writing with that band there is clearly some sort of wait for others to finish before he can begin to give his input. In regards to APC "A Perfect Circle was originally conceived by Billy Howerdel, a former guitar technician for Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins, Fishbone and Tool. Howerdel met singer Maynard James Keenan in 1992, when Tool was opening for Fishbone, and the two became friends." Billy Howerdel * the hairless gentleman in the music video* probably does much of the writing of the music perhaps with or without the collab of previous and or current members thru the history of the band. Dive a bit deeper into APC's library of music and you should start to hear more and more influences. This in turn, leads me to believe that there is some sort of stylistic input that organically compiles together making something within APC's overall tone and vibe similar to Tool.

This wasn’t a fav for me either, at first. At first I felt like it just sounded to “but rock”, but once I kinda listened to it more & read the lyrics, my opinion changed. Still not a fav of Tool/APC, but I like it a lot more now. For APC the outsider and so long and thanks for all the fish are top of my favs list.

This song, while being incredibly well written.. has always been one of the least interesting APC songs for me. There’s just not a lot going on in it besides the main riff. Everything else they’ve done holds my attention much better. I HIGHLY recommend Weak and Powerless. Then getcho azz back to Sleep Token!!! Lol

APC really hasn't been the same since Paz and Josh left. Mer De Noms was their best work, but after that, they really dropped off in quality, I'm sorry to say because Mer de Noms is a really fantastic album.
