Waaayyy back when this video came out I remember when she hits her note at 2:03 and she pulls her bass up to her side...game over. Fell in love instantly!
The bass player: Paz Lenchantin (born December 12, 1973) is an Argentine American musician. She has been the bass guitarist, vocalist and violinist of the alternative rock band Pixies since 2014. She is known for playing bass or strings with various bands, including Entrance, A Perfect Circle, Zwan, and Queens of the Stone Age. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paz_Lenchantin
@@heathcliff8624 Thanks for commenting brother! I think you're confusing the bass players. Who played at White Zombie, was Sean Yseult. In the band Hole, the bassist was Melissa Auf der Maur, who later went to play at The Smashing Pumpkins.
I cried the first time I watched this last March. The music made the sick ass world go away for hours. Something about great music that make my spirit soar...
This song is a sonic tsunami!! How badass & sexy was Paz on this song? Especially putting up her hair in the middle without missing a beat?? 👊🏼💪🏼 Maynard wasn’t questioning his mother’s faith as much as he was lashing out at the hypocrisy in her church (Southern Baptist). People were talking behind her back saying his mother must have deserved this fate for God to punish her like that. When he says F your God, it wasn’t directed at his mother, or God, it was directed at the fundamentalists & extremists who without compassion or reason do so many hypocritical, bad, or evil things in the world and claim it’s in Gods name or a religion... thus “F your God”. Maynard does a commentary about this song which explains his mindset (which is often misinterpreted) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YU0BrwlWNTk.html If you want to dive a bit deeper into songs about Maynards mother, and his healing period, check out Wings For Marie & 10,000 days. (Both TOOL songs, not APC) 10,000 days is roughly the amount of days his mother spent paralyzed after her aneurysm. Make sure to use the lyric videos as well. It’s an amazing experience that will move you to tears...
Also throw in "jimmy," which is about his childhood and dealing with her illness at age 11. All four songs basically form a complete story; jimmy is about dealing with it as a child, Judith is about his hatred for the hypocrisy hurled at her and also how he couldn't understand why she continued to be faithful, and Wings and 10,000 Days are a tribute to her after her death.
Yessss the Outsider. My favorite song. That song came out at a time when my s.o. was going thru his addiction to crystal meth. It described how I felt & what I would tell him. Pet (Counting Bodies Like Sheep...). Weak & Powerless are my other favorites.
Probably my favorite song from A Perfect Circle is "The Noose". It's a moody soft atmospheric song that's quite a bit different from what you hear from this one. Worth checking out for sure.
Worth noting for the APC novice: The Noose is from the album Thirteenth Step, which is an album written around the issue of addiction, in all its forms (chemical, emotional, mental, etc.) 👍🏼 Super powerful. ❤️
Cosigner on The Noose. One of my fav APC songs, and anyone who has dealt with addiction or knows someone who has will relate. 3 Libras is another absolute gem
The bassist is Paz Lechanti, so perfect 👌... Also plays violin 🎻 in this record, "3 libras", "Orestres", "Rose", "The hollow", "Thinking of you", "Sleeping beauty"... The first 2 APC albums are perfection from begginin to end...
RodRigo Campo Emotive is sick as well. Why no one talks about that album is disturbing. And Eat The Elephant they came out with two years ago. They are ALL good.
@Nerdy old white Guy mmmm, not really a HUGE FAN, just love the first 2 albums (the last one i haven't listen with full patience and attention) but APC is mostly mellow, of course there are songs like Judith, but thats not the main mood... I think you should give a try to: Breña, The Hollow, Orestres, Thinking of you, The nosse, Blue, Pet.... Just let the songs build up, you won't regret it...
No matter how many times I hear it, that song always gives me the chills. One of the best hard guitar band tunes ever. Starts strong, goes strong, finishes strong. Superior arrangement, lyrics and execution. The video for the tune only elevates it.
Tools lead singers. He loved his mother so much. That was his life. Pissed the hell off god made her suffer all those years. In his thoughts anyway. She was a saint in life and suffered for no reason. What he thought
@Atheos B. Sapien They have already caused so much while active, their extinction burst would, in all probability, do the same. We can hope not. Take care in these uncertain times!
From that incredible opening line of "You're such an inspiration for the ways that I would never ever choose to be" to that almighty final scream, I adore every second of this song. You can just feel the frustration and pain.
Magdalena, The Noose, Lullaby/Pet, 3 Libras. There are many good ones. APC is something of a supergroup. On this album it was Maynard on vocals, bass is Paz Lenchantin (the Pixies), drums are Josh Freese (the Vandals, Queens of the Stone Age, etc.), Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age), and Billie Howerdel who was a guitar technician for Tool, Faith No More, Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins, NIN, etc on guitar, main songwriter, & founder of the band.
One of the things I love about this video is how the director, David Fincher (of Seven, The Social Network, Fight Club, and so much else) brings the film medium itself into play to help tell the story. Scratched frames, damaged film misaligning on the sprockets, overexposure, he's fantastic at using not just the image, but the thing that captured the image, to let the shots speak and help convey a message.
Absolutely - 3 Little Pigs really adds a lot of depth to the Maynard experience. Or I'll whatever it takes to get people that haven't heard it to check it out. Best Karaoke Song !
Man, One of the best love songs out there is “3 libras - a perfect circle” but there is a live version on japan I think which is one o the best I’ve heard
20 years later.....yes 20 years, it still holds up. I can listen to this song and album over and over again. It never gets old. Oh yeah, and Josh Freese is a beast.
Jamel Jamal…..with openness you’ve e accepted a different culture and have profited from it. God bless you. God bless America. Thank God for you and your kind soul. Lots of love.
great vocals on this ass kicking song about maynard's mother! whole album is amazing..maynard's voice is also fantastic on songs like "orestes" and "3 libras". what a debut album!!
Jamel thank you so much for showing that raw emotion is shown in a variety of genres. This song is deep, painful and unapologetic for it. May we all find peace in this world.
Yes! Finally! please do a reaction for 3 Libras from them. It’s such a beautiful song and know you’ll agree. It’s one of my favorites of Maynard’s vocal performances.
a couple more APC tunes..."The Noose," "Passive" (which you've heard some of if you ever saw the movie Contantine with Keanu Reeves) and "Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums." and yeah...i wish that APC had been doing more music, because they're not doing that much is one big reason Paz (the bassist) left the band. that part where she puts her hair up is sexy AF, but then i play bass so i might be a bit partial...lol.
I w'like to thank you so much for this channel and your work! It is so gratifying live the same feelings listening to my favorite songs, and your comments about the lyrics and personal features of the bands and artisits are great!
His mom, Judith was confined to a wheelchair for 10,000 days hence the "10,000 Days" album from Tool. Although she had to spend the majority of her life in a wheelchair, she stayed true in her faith.
I love Maynard...but i also pray that the witness his mother was will one day reach him. There IS a reason for everything... Her faith amd her pain and this resulting song were partly what brought ME back to God.
Thanks for doing this one. One of my favorites. I grew up as a white suburban middle class kid listening to only rap. Snoop, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy E, Tupac ect. My friends finally introduced me to this kind of music and fell in love with it too. Much love and respect from Alberta Canada.
My cousins and uncle from az got me into these guys. I remember visiting and listening to this song while riding around in the desert/tubing down the salt
Listen to how he speaks about religion in this song, and compare it to how he speaks about it in Tool’s 10,000 Days - Wings For Marie, listen to how his emotions and grief has evolved since ‘Judith’. It will blow your mind!!! ❤️❤️❤️
The Outsider is such a good song, and also Disallusioned/Talk Talk/The Doomed, Pet. Tons of good stuff. Also another GREAT band to check out Queens of the Stone Age!
I enjoy Jamel's channel so much because it reminds me of the great music of back in my days. I saw A Perfect Circle twice and so glad I was able to before COVID-19 changed the world completely. Thank you Jamel.
Definitely should check out some Type O Negative, I'd recommend especially something off World Coming Down like White Slavery or Everyone I love is dead or the title track. Reason being is that he seemed to really like the lyrical impact that Judith had and the emotional outpouring that Maynard was expressing through the lyrics. You could truly here his genuine emotion in his singing. Peter Steele is the same way, and World Coming Down is emotional turmoil at its most intense.
Frustrations about Christianity? Are you kidding me, this is so common in the music industry... what he’s doing and singing about is pretty standard. It’s nothing new. It’s a luciferian recipe for fame and fortune
Cherryll Cooper it’s kind of funny, because you never hear any artists mention Muhammad, Buddha, Confucius, etc. It’s pretty telling that they only ever talk about Jesus and His Father God. 🤔Why Is that, do you suppose?
If there has been a better, more powerful musical questioning of faith, I've not heard it. This is a perfectly crafted piece of music that deserves multiple hearings to understand the pure breadth and scope of the musicianship and board craft.
Please do more APC! The Hollow, Pet, Weak and Powerless are a few of my favorites. Anything off the Stone & Echo live at Red Rocks (sounds so amazing and I’ve actually been there for one of their shows). They have a lot of great songs.
APC's best songs are in no particular order "weak and Powerless" "The Hollow" "3 Libras" "Pet" "The Doomed" "Orestes" "The noose" "Talk talk" "So long and thanks for all the fish"
If possible could you react to Judas by Fozzy? The frontman is Chris Jericho who is a pro wrestler who uses the song as his wrestling them and it's a damn good song.
The bass player is Paz. One of the guitar players in a perfect circle is James Iha. Former guitarist for the smashing pumpkins. He played backup guitar for a perfect circle. Billy Howe dale is lead for this band with of course Maynard James Keenan on vocals. Love this band.
One thing I always liked about this music video is, it shows the more human aspect of what it is to be a band. There are snippets of people grabbing a quick sip of water, the bass player put her hair up, etc
3 Libras and The Noose are just two of the songs to react to many more by this great lineup. The guitarist is tool's guitar tec.and asked Maynard to sing on some songs he had .
I’ve been listening to them for years and never knew the back story!! Thank you I’m shocked I’ll never listen to this song the same way again!! I’ve always loved him in Tool and followed him with his journey to Perfect Circle!! He’s just so amazing thank you
One of those videos that just grabs you from the get-go. It was directed by David Fincher. ( Fight Club ) Paz Lenchantin rocking it out hard with the boys. Awesome musicians that con replicate this live.
Her name is Paz Lenchantin. She plays bass...violin...piano and guitar. She has played with multiple bands including Queens if the Stone Age and the Pixies (please do some PIXIES) she is only 47.
