Ahh, the lovely Canon R5 "I've lost tracking, so I better snap focus to infinity as fast as possible until I find your eye again" autofocus. I wish it had a "hey, just relax until you find an eye again" option.
The zoom of the 8k was impressive but I have to admit the side-by-side was hardly noticeable. I would say the hunting was worse than a Fuji :) (says an X-T4 owner)
OMG You had me dying before the intro! lmao Yo, your awesome sir! That bride comment omg; and yet there is a great learning point about that comment at the same time!!
Wow, there was some serious focus jumping in this video. Not quite the Panasonic level, but not what I expected from Canon. Is there a setting to delay focus jump when you turn away? Is it a user error or Canon error?
8k had me focusing on distracting details such as hair sharpness and blemishes, whereas the softer look diminished those distractions. Maybe 8k would look good on people with softer appearances.
As a sometimes photography hobbyist with little video experience, I am very grateful for the clarifications about the differing requirements of videography. They are common sense once you are aware of them.
Have you optimized your focus settings on the R5? Looks to me like you have it set to quickly jump between subjects instead of locking onto your eye no matter what.
That R5 definitely needs the v.1.5.2 firmware update. Significant AF jump at 9:15 and a couple times after that. Other than that, image quality is fantastic. Maybe the room is a little too dark. (EDIT: check the AF menu. If "Continuous AF" is on, turn it off. That setting makes the camera hunt for AF unnecessarily. Servo and eye AF is enough.) If you're going to keep the R5 and record in 8K (which you don't really need to), I suggest recording externally to an Atomos Ninja V. No record limit, no overheating, and you can record in Apple ProRes which is (so I hear) easy to edit. That's what Ordinary Filmmaker does.
When I saw you in the first scene I was like : "ok, this is not m43, probably not apsc, must be a FF system with some weird lens" HA! got ya! Watching your clips has definitely improved my pixel peeping abilities! Thank you :P
🤣 The rant on sharpness is so true, most of us now stream EVERYTHING and 2k is barely available. True 4k on a large monitor or 4k tv is only real on blu ray or when you are editing your own files.
Hey why don't you try out the Sigma 150-600C adapted with a Fringer to your Fuji. In Canada I see them for like 750-900 used. Be interesting to see your thoughts and results. And it'd be fun to see you try and handhold lol
Hey Mate, I have a reasonable sized youtube channel and shoot some B-roll type stuff for most of my Videos. For ages I have been using Olympus cameras. Currently have the EM5 mk3 and some pro lenses 7-14 and 12-40 But I hardly use it these days and have been using my iphone 12 for like 8months now! Honestly I feel like I can get as good some time better content with it and it’s so much less hassle! You should do some videos on phone cameras and how they are or aren’t able to compete with some similar priced full time cameras.
For wildlife video on the cheap, since audio doesn't really matter that much, would you consider pairing the fuji 70-300 with an xt-200 body to get that awesome screen and lightweight portability? Will you test the 1.4 converter on the fuji tele lenses?
Wobbly wide angle IBIS video only happens if the camera is shaking. In this case, the wobble is still much better than a shaking video. If the camera is stable, there is no wobble.
Thank you for acknowledging the Fuji 16-80 sucks. I felt gaslighted by all the reviews saying it was good, even better than the 18-55. Instinctively I knew it was lies, but thats what the camera store had in stock and I was itching. Flat, dull, lifeless.. cest la vie. Really, I feel so validated by all your videos. I hadn't yet discovered you while making buying decisions. Yet still, somehow, Xt4 (albeit with regrettable kit) 2 Panasonic G85's at a time because, it was obvious. cheap vintage glass that makes you wonder... The only thing I find myself struggling with is -Autofocus- which, is a luxury item, but a good one to have when I'm the safety net. I'm not quite ready to ditch the Fuji as its probably the most business savvy choice to keep around. Point, looks good, send file, cash check. I just want a lens that can communicate with the camera to offload the work of me not knowing what I'm doing. Doing it in focus would be nice, but I know, thanks to you, not to go chasing that dragon on a Fuji, yet. I'll just get a pair of xc/xf's and keep it moving with the grandpa glass when I'm busy living my best life. Or throw them on the G85s because they somehow look better even though they technically look worse. Love the channel, Will be exploring Vegetable Police soon.
Can confirm it sucks. Mine feels comparable to an adapted 80s Fujica 50mm f1.8. Many reviewers often cop out with the "some people love it, others hate it". But all technical reviews point towards the latter... After a few months of shooting I got the 90mm f2 and it literally feels like a different camera. I know it's not a fair comparison, but the 90mm is still noticeably sharper even at f2. From what I've seen the XF 50mm f2 is the best second hand deal (IQ and price wise).
I have a Fuji XT4 and am thinking about starting a youtube channel: combination technology, + diet/philosophy. I don't think anyone is doing this yet so I won't have much competition. I can imagine video titles such as "why you should trust the science," "does coca cola pair better with pfizer or moderna," and "pizza hut OMAD vs KFC intermittent fasting." Anyway; I plan on shooting still frames and recording voice overs since I can't figure out how to record video. What audio interface do you recommend for recording audio on a PC? I won't ever be recording outdoors since vlogging is for losers so I just need a desktop interface. If I could figure out video recording I would just use the XT4 built-in mic.
"Is it long enough? Not really. It's just not long enough." Kasey!?! Is that really what *SHE* said???? (Thank you Kasey for giving me these opportunities!)
Oh nooo - you said “don’t come at with me with a camcorder”. That has not improved father / son relations - it has made him more entrenched than ever 😂
That question about 8K "taking over" is funny, taking into account even 4K is using a cannon for hunting mouse. 3D was better achievement than 4K (and it was commercially killed), because 3D info is "more interesting" than added resolution we aren't able often even notice. The better thing is or would be being able using HDR in FHD. That is an information we are able to use. Still I don't know how the ordinary people think they would be able to store that insane volumes of 4K (not even talking about 8K) footage. Storage, especially if we want some protection against data loss, is insanely expensive when going above FHD. At the same moment the same hi-res fanatics will be singing their song about shooting RAW, which is even more catastrophic. Full HD is enough.
You have to wonder at what point are we going overboard with resolution? Micro 4/3rds can barely do 4K video with 20MP sensors and eventually Full Frame won't be good enough either.
I now trust that you indeed use Sony A7s3 while shooting these Q&A videos normally. I have never seen so much focus breathing in your videos like this one. Can tell its not Sony!
@Camera Conspiracies Hey Kasey. I have a Gopro 7, Gopro 9 & Sony ZV-1. This covers all my travel adventures, action sports & occasional vlogging needs for my channel. I know I don't need anything else, but let's just say at some point I want to enter the full frame game to replace my ZV-1. What would you recommend for something all round? I really like the A7C but worried about stabe. Please help pair up a camera & lens for my dream setup 🙏.
Hey guys! How about that Canon 8k AF!!! Pretty good, right? NOT! I don't know how many times it lost you. Keep chasing the megapixels even though the human eye can't see it- oh by the way, everyone's watching on their phones. The good answer is to go BACK to better 2k, not 8k.
Have you had a chan e to shoot with the Samsung S22 ULTRA? I recently had to get a new phone, wipe on on ice on my stairs and smashed the screen on my Note 8, the lens array on the S22 Ultra is amazing for a phone, if I can send you footage would you attempt to edit together something and let me know what you think?
I'm brand new to photography and I already can't stand photographers. If I have to hear the word COMPOSITION every day of my photography career, I think I'm gonna switch to hooking it.
Hey man, planning to get the A7C for travel pictures and vlogs for its size and the full frame sensor. Should I wait for the A7Cii or get one now? Thanks
Somehow I was sure your Channel has 1,3 million subs... I am honestly disappointed by humanity, that you only have 113k :D People are missing out biiiig time
Just took a picture! Not a photographer. Just screenshot this !when i can buy the gh6 or a lens ill check your affiliate links to see if ther having special 24 to 72 month 0 percent financing . As for now IM GETTIN A SHIRT!
The Nikon 200-500mm F/5.6 + FTZ (or FTZ II) adapter would be the least expensive option. The 200-500 has been around for a long time and can be purchased used at a significant discount. It gives more reach than the 100-400mm almost no loss in aperture and is reputed to be of very high quality. Also, adapted Nikon lenses reputedly work as well on the Z cameras as on the DSLRs.
Weirdly, when you did side by side the 4K footage looked slightly warmer than the 8k. Most noticeable on the wall behind you. In 8k it looks more grey, and in 4K it looks more brown. Weird.
Slight confusion here -- so did Fuji somehow fix all of your issues with the XT-4, which prompted you to sell it in the first place? Since you now have one again? Or did I somehow beam up into the Mirror-Mirror Camera Conspiracies universe????
TLDR; Wildlife is better on APS-C and Fuji are the only ones making proper APS-C cameras. Nikon and Canon completely gave up and nobody wants to balance a big lens on the little bars of soap Sony makes.
Canon Rp or Fuji xs 10 , i have canon m50 and i want upgrade , i do sit down talk videos and i take from time to time family photos .. i like a bit of toneh can you halp me please
Sure it's a Canon? Focus and background pulsing like a Panni. I do a lot's of Interviews with the Sony A7S3 and I never see it hunting or pulsing. It focus just perfect.
MarkusPix really liked the G100, for video and photos. Don't you think it's a little shallow to reject a complete system that you were enjoying just because of a camera you didn't judge suitable... also, you never actually tried it. I have to say that I didn't really see the point of its existence when it came out; however, I've come around a little because this camera is very small... the IBIS was the big mistake IMO.
Markus doesn't vlog, and he pointed out the flaws in his video. You can only use stabilized lenses, which limits your choices massively. It's a terrible vlogging camera, much worse than the G85 was.
That autofocus on Canon R5 is horrible. You were jumping out of ficus quite often. As soon as eyes are coverred, Canon focuses on background, instead of subject (head, and then body). This never happened with any of my Sony cameras.
When I was your age it was film.. video is a gift from God. .;) whatever you say. . Remember... you are a sequence photographer. Ehhh? Not so fun now. A machine gun isn't a sniper rifle. For fun. I stand in the middle of a stream to make a blue heron like me. Do you have a pet blue heron? DO YOU? (Actually... I adore your channel and share the shot outbid it.) We are all brothers of the shutter.
We don't have any 4K TV here, some of it isn't even full HD. But, SVT looks really good. I film in HD 422 25fps on my GH5. Mostly do concert filming. Works great. Best regards from Stockholm
sheeesh your lens keeps on (average almost once a minute) refocusing go back to your sony or olympus in the studio... or find a lens with less focus breathing.
