That is good advice for a lot things not just modules. My first wife was defective I had to get another one that worked well,🤣🛫

Personally I rarely buy single pieces of anything. Usually I just look to get an idea of the price then add "5pcs" to the search query to find a listing that usually ends up saving you 10% or more per item. If none of the listings for multiple pieces come out to be cheaper you can also usually save a little by buying the "bulk" quantity of them from the single item listings, which is usually only like 3-5pcs to get a few percent off

... especially if you are ordering from the slow boat from China ... 4 to 8 weeks or more, depending on the mood of Canada Post

Like @Marcel's Workshop said it takes longer to get stuff here on the East Coast, so might as well order more stuff at the same time. Thanks for watching Garth and nice to talk to you again!

That's rough. I live in Pennsylvania (just across Lake Erie from Canada) and somehow China can get $0.79+free shipping items to me in less than 2 weeks usually. Granted most stuff coming into the Eastern US lands in Flushing New York or Columbus Ohio so I guess I'm situated perfectly for fast international shipping :]

Good advice, Yvan. I usually buy several items at once.. waiting 2 weeks to 2 months isn't good but usually better than buying 1 or 2 locally at several times the price. I've only had a couple of faulty items from China out of hundreds so have done very well. Swapping parts makes any fault-finding quick. I have built many of your projects and they have all worked well... 8-) thank you.

Thanks for sharing your experience with parts. Also always great to hear that others are finding the tutorials helpful and are building their own projects, that means a lot to me and keeps me going! Thanks for watching!

Also make sure you are checking the datasheets and using proper protection ;-) Like using bypass and filter caps on every chip to filter out noise that could cause damage or just send bad readings.

I tend to pull the trigger once first to see if it works. After that, decide how many more I want to get afterwards. But as much as possible I buy from WAVGAT at aliexpress.

Good advice especially for the newbies. I usually get stuff that are cheap more than one because it is what I do in my life before I saw this video and let’s say that for a newbie, some mistakes break the hardware permanently and it is cheaper to throw that piece away instead of spend an insain amount of time trying to bug-fix it, think of the little LED light bulbs. I have met people who strictly buying only as much as they need with no spare parts and met people have have ways too many spare parts that they have no idea what to do with them so I understand why you made this video even if some people might find it to be just a common sense.

I just watched this. I should have watched it 5 months ago when it came out. Probably would have saved me a bunch of headaches. Doh!

i have been lucky - i have only had a couple of nano boards die on me but one strange thing i have is a couple of genuine uno boards that pin 13 is always high even though there is no programme on them and if i write pin 13 low it still stays on! Oh well i guess i can use it for another 5v rail or change the micro out .

Has the same thing happened to me but on some pins, sure was fun trying to figure out what was wrong... Thanks for watching!

LED is on Pin 13 as mentioned int he Arduino documentation. Not recommended to use it for this general programming unless you'd like to try and desolder the resistor connecting it. Also, various arduino functions control it internally (i.e. SPI communication) I know this is an old post, just thought maybe someone would like to know why.

You're so right! I've lost so much time trying to figure out my mistake, when the hardware was at fault.

The shipping cost per unit also drops with the more units you buy. I've also had quality parts when ordering from Ivan (www.brainy-bits.com).

@@tuber4tuber That's true, since sometimes buying multiple doesn't cost that much more. Thanks for watching!

Comme tu as raison !! Conseil sage suite a l'expérience... J'ai déjà commandé su un site Chinois très connu... 2 items pour un petit projet Arduino... les deux ne fonctionnaient pas ! Parfois vaut mieux payer un peu plus... 😉 😁

Forsooth, I've had much cheap Chinese junk from eBay fail after a while of even little use, let alone frequent use, and even some that arrived dead. As the old chestnut says, you get what you pay for, plus China isn't known for their quality, quite the opposite, China is notorious for cutting every corner there is, then cutting a few more; the country is literally falling apart: ru-vid.com?search_query=china+falling So yes, get a spare. Also, test as soon as it arrives and get a refund if needed!
@BrainybitsCanada
@BrainybitsCanada 5 лет назад
That's a good point, test the part right away to make sure it works, because when you need it you might find out that it doesn't work. Thanks for watching!
