The build up to Amicia and Lucas's relationship was so tender and beautiful. Not only did the writers do an amazing job adding the most subtle details to such a wholesome pair, the music added so much layer and love to their dynamic. Fantastic job, Olivier. Especially the callback to Lucas's theme in the scene where Amicia was showing her appreciation. It was all very subtle; Lucas was featured so much more in this sequel comapred to innocence, then slowly the cutscenes with him felt more deliberate and intimate. As you observe their interactions, you notice that he balances her out perfectly, being the calm and rational mind to Amicia's impulsive and reckless thinking. You see how comfortable they are around each other and how much trust they have at the same time, there is an air of restraint, of something unspoken, all because they're dealing with far bigger circumstances unsuited for their age. Thank you for confirming this small detail, Olivier! I remember watching this playthrough with my boyfriend and I kept pointing out how deliberate it was that Amicia cried she was alone, then Lucas showed up. It's clear as day - they need each other more than they think.

I could not even imagine that any work of art could have such an impact on me as this game. After beating the game, I recovered for a few more weeks. At first, just listening to the Main Theme and "Up there" practically made me cry (and it's extremely difficult to make me cry). Thanks to everyone involved for creating such magnificence and in particular to you for the most powerful and emotional music I have ever heard. This game was a whole event in my life.

11:15 - 17:30 - I love that the Composer himself plays the game and explain the meaning of how the music system hints us in the game! THAT IS SO MEANINGFUL, I'm honestly amazed! The meaning of the lyrics, choir plays after hitting a human-shaped rats, the Death Music when the rats kill you,... Everything sums up to this masterpiece - The Plague: Requiem. Thank you for delivering this music, really! I truly love "Up There" and "Brother", these tracks have unique themes beside The Main theme and they play in Important scenes that truly hit my heart hard haha. I must definitely make piano cover of your music right away and can't wait to upload them to RU-vid soon 😋

I only found out about these 2 games recently and i just finished playing through requiem and it made me depressed for a couple of days after i had finished it. I have cried at other games but i have never cried for so long in a game until this one. Once Amicia hugs Hugo in that scene it made me start crying so hard. It’s so beautiful how overtime their relationship builds and she is trying to find a way to cure him. The way Amicia would go so far for him to try and give him the life he deserves stole my heart. Once the credits roll it makes me cry everytime knowing that I tried so hard to save Hugo but I couldn’t do it. I love Lucas so much, he is so sweet and i love that he was involved in so many parts of the game. This is a masterpiece and it’s one of the best games i’ve ever played.

A soundtrack had never made me cry before. I don't know how you could make everything fit so perfectly but the amount of skill that it would take is unreal. The soundtrack of Requiem and Innocence is perfect down to every single noise and the voice acting is also perfect, like Hugo's goodbye to Amicia. The sound design is perfect down to every detail its unbelievable.

the decision to leave the music off at the end was super good, i personally was crying so much that i couldn't think about anything anymore, i went to sleep crying and i spent a good time as if i had lost Hugo for real, the game really managed to convey the feeling that we felt what Amicia was feeling, the writing, Charlotte, Logan, you!! it hurt a lot to understand where the game was going, the final conversation between Hugo and Amicia...i never wanted to do that, but really if it was meant to be, it had to be Amicia, Hugo asked her, and for everything, besides at the end where Lucas do it, Amicia gets upset with him because she remembers what happened, and that hurts so much too! a very difficult ending because we love all the characters and just want them to be happy after so much, but the writing really was so perfect, what a amazing game, i don't think anyone else will top a plague tale for me, thank you so so much for putting your heart into it and making such surreal works, Up There is in my top songs for sure, hope you know how you moved so many people

thank you for the wonderful music in the game, you did a good job. I really liked this game, it caused me a lot of emotions. It hurt for Hugo, didn't want to kill him, but the situation was hopeless. Poor kid, he's been through so much. Poor Amicia, who was broken physically and mentally throughout the game. Lucas is a sunshine, a very pleasant character. His interactions with Amicia warmed my heart. I love them both as friends and as a possible couple in the future. I would really like the DLC with Lucas and Amicia, their story remained unsaid.

Had to stay and breath a bit before writing this comment, because this chapter almost killed me on my first walkthrough and tbh it wasn't easier now to go through this again 💔 I admire the work the team has done on this game, because I've never experienced something like this with other games (and I played a few good games). Special thanks to you, Mr. Deriviere, I think the soundtrack is perfect, this is the type of music that elevates my soul, can't find the words to express how much I love it ❤️ I do like Akira too, but never made a connection with the game, so wow, I have to think about it.. usualy games or film don't get much of a reaction out of me, at most, i get a teary eye, but for this game, this chapter ! i had a knot on my throat, and tears flowing down my cheeks. and the end credits in pure silence with the soothing waves was much needed, thank you for that ! this moment was so unique, me dumbfounded for several minutes, taking in the fact i just killed hugo, a virtual kid i grew to love and protect like a little brother, that i was guiding though both of the games. thinking about the fact that they had the solution to hugo's wellbeing, they just needed to leave the islands and live in the mountain house. but the duke and his wife had to ruin everything... Thank you olivier and asobo studio for this masterpiece !

I'm taking Hugo actually not only as a character of younger brother, I think he's like an idealized object or what that Amecia has projected from her father's image onto Hugo. and the killing at end is like the excution or integrating of the idealized object. also, the fear of being abandoned is so strong, that the overcome (or the letting go of it) then into the credit is such a big relief.

Starting talk about love, oh so good *-* then back to misery... oh God T-T. That's A Plague Tale for you and I wouldn't change it for nothing! By this time in my playthrough I was already drowning in despair thinking how am I going to save Hugo from this???? This last talk with Hugo in this sequence, I dont have words to describe, really. It made me cry so hard, so hard. Amicia saying that he is an innocent child and never deserved any of it and then Hugo saying there were a lot of innocent children in the Red City too... My heart was crushing and then Hugo saying he was happy with Amicia and literally talking her (and us) through to accept what is to happen... OH MY GOD! I just can't, it is so impactful and it will be forever imprinted in my soul! And the music through the whole sequence?? It was the ice in the cake!! I just cannot listen to it without remembering everything and feeling my eyes tear up from all the emotions associated with it. Thank you so much Mr. Olivier for creating this masterpiece. I fought so hard to save him, it was very difficult to do what he asked it, but I really felt that Amicia should be the one to do it, so she could really accept it and the move on. That decision was difficulty, so very difficulty. Never have I felt so bad while using the sling... I just stared at the computer while my tears were flowing. Charlotte gave her soul to Amicia in this game, it was impossible to not feel Amicia's emotions through the whole journey. I hope she gets awarded in the Game Awards. The same for all the team, you guys deserve it! And just to finish, I have to express how much I love Lucas. The first time we meet him he says "You are not alone anymore" and then in the end he is with Amicia in such a terrible moment in her life, remembering her that she is not alone on all this. Goodness, I love this scene so much! Lucas, you are a true companion! And thank you for confirming Lucas' feelings!! I really felt that he was developing feelings her for but it was impossible to expect a romantic conclusion because Amicia would never put romantic feelings above Hugo's wellbeing, so the fact that Lucas stayed on and did everything is his power to support both Amicia and Hugo means the world to me.

The only thing I can say now is that I feel grateful.. grateful for having this experience in my life. and yeah, 70 people only prove that you don't need many people, you need GOOD people.. and when those good people pour their hearts and souls into their work this is the only way to achieve true greatness. As I played this chapter, I began to suspect that the game would ask me to do something I didn't want to do. And the whole second half of the chapter I thought "No, this can't be. They won't make me..." And when Hugo said "I think you know already" and the music changed, the choir was gone... It was very hard. By that moment, it is already clear where everything is going and you can understand it earlier, but the final realization comes at this moment for me. So I finished the game at the end of October and I can't stop thinking about it. In the end, I came to the conclusion that it would be right for Amicia to fulfill Hugo's final request herself. But one of the questions that still bothering me is could she have done it then, at moment when there is not much time to think about it? Anyway, the game is amazing! The music is mesmerizing. I think that is my favorite OST now. The voice acting is also very impressive and emotional, Charlotte did a great job.

The fact alone, that in that scene where Hugo dies, the reticle for the sling is the same as for all regular enemies. They could have made it without a reticle at all, just have the button presses trigger the animation, but they decided to give us the same symbols we saw so often when killing enemies, usually to protect amicia and Hugo, that same action, that saved us so many times now takes Hugo out of life. Kind of perfect, and even more heartbreaking, getting that visual confirmation, that this is no different than any enemy, the result is going to be the same

I finished the game a while ago already, but I still come back to listen to the soundtrack every now and then. Every time I find some new depth in it, new themes from different instruments and nuances I did't pay attention to previously. And now, as I watched your walkthrough, learned even more about the music and the intentions behind it! I remember how strongly the moment, when the choir starts singing at 25:00, hit me when I was playing for the first time. As a non-French speaker, I did not understand the lyrics though. Only after watching this video it occurred to me, that in those lyrics Amicia is basically speaking to Hugo. That is just incredible. Olivier, thank you so much for this beautiful work, the music is a real masterpiece. The main theme music is great and 'The Holy Child' is a great bad ost, but I wish the bad guys were more deeply reflected in this music because the feel is very similar to the 'Dirge From Dark Side' ost (I must also say it's a very good villian ost). Everyone has already said almost everything I wanted to say, but I would like to add kudos to Hugos character design team + mocap. At first I thought that Innocence Hugo looked better, but then I noticed that while in Innocence he did not show much variety of emotions (he always looked sad, and very last scene when he laughed his face was not seen), but in Requiem, oh boy, you can literally see into his soul just by looking screen captures of cutscenes. Second most heartbreaking scene in game in my opinion is when Hugo regains consciousness after witnessing his mothers death, killing Countess and falling through floor.

You know... I originally wanted to watch this video to get a better understanding of the story. It was a music review, almost no plot review, but it was still interesting to me, although I'm not sure I'd want to watch it a second time. Although. I probably would have liked to, hah! Olivier, you've created the BEST soundtrack of any video game, movie, or in general storytelling that I've ever seen! By the way, I started playing computer games in August 2018, I started watching movies, roughly speaking, the same time. God, that soundtrack... It made me have an acute love for this game in those moments when it was at its most... Usual! The level with the barrels in chapter 4 (of which there were two, I mean the first one without the soldier), the giant chariot at the end of chapter 3 and the cranes in chapter 5 - those are the moments I love this game for. Well, not only that. They're pretty ordinary, overall, but the music makes them special And of course, you created the best soundtrack in the history of video games - "Father" from a Plague Tale Innocence Thank you very much for your working, after this masterpiece you are my the most favorite composer!

This is truly a masterpiece and you have much to be proud of. Thank you.

Thank you for exsplaining what you and team meant with this music and the narrative itself. For me personally, it was not obvious that we're going to kill Hugo till the last chapter, for 30 hours I (as Amicia) was trying to save him and barely failed, so I felt kinda annoyed with this ending, feeling sorry not only for the Hugo, but for Amicia, Arno, Rodrick and everyone else who put so much efforts in vain.
@whatsoever5489
@whatsoever5489 Год назад
Was all their fight enough? sadly not. Was it in vain? I think definitely not. Hugo felt this love and effort and it made his life all the brighter amidst all the dark, pain and fear. It was not in vain if he was asked. This love and struggle by others for his sake was the thing which eventually made him say that he was happy with Amicia. He felt appreciated and loved because of this and thanks to this he was willing to sacrifice himsef eventually and ask her to save all he loved thanks to the fact that he was taught what love means by his father, mother, Amicia, Rodrick, Arno - all were sacrificing themselves all the time because there is no love without sacrifice.

What an ending for Requiem! For Innocence, my favorite is definitely Beyond The Horizon. It transcends to Up There in Requiem, which is a bit slower, and more sorrowful with the choir. For Requiem, I love the theme, especially the second part which is the extension of the original Innocence theme (an amazing moment that temporarily ends on a major second at 2:02 of the theme - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xdFdLiTGdJs.html). I also love the Holy Child (Dorian always gives me a religious feeling).

What a beautiful chapter and I was starting to get a bit disappointed we didn't have a proper version of beyond the horizon. I honestly spent 10 minutes running in circles following those damn birds. The breathtaking visuals of the giant skulls in synced with the music is just pure art. Merci for that. I love the writing too, how Amicia need to accept to stop fighting is just heartbreaking I felt it as a player, I couldn't resign to stop fighting the humanoid rats and most important I tried everything else before killing hugo. Like what if all this was a dream and not Hugo talking to you?! I cried again watching your video. Your music holds a lots of power. Merci for this amazing music and for those videos you're truly amazing. PS: you're right about the silence at the end, if you had put "brother" right away I would have cried so much more that I already did...

26:00 It is actually the genius of the game that it brings a player, that usually does not think much about killing opponents in a game and pushes the fire button almost instinctively, suddenly is in a position where he actually reflects about what it means to take a life. Many are frustrated by the ending, because the whole journey seemed pointless, but from my understanding the whole journey of the game had the point of bringing the player to this moment to NOT push the button as usual but to put himself into the mind of someone who is about to kill. I don't recall any game to accomplish that. I personally did not kill Hugo, because I put myself into Amicia and I do not think she would be able to do that. Even seconds before she still talks about saving Hugo. It was not Amicia's journey to stop the Macula, her journey was about saving Hugo. Lucas' journey was about stopping the Macula though, and he very early in the story expressed his understanding that Hugo might need to die for that. And after Amicia killed so many soldiers to save herself, Hugo and her companions, it was Lucas' turn to end his journey and stop the Macula and take the burden from Amicia to kill her own brother. I suspected that the writers/producers had a discussion too about what ending would be the most fitting, if such ending should be enforced, and in the end decided, that the player should make this decision himself.

We can clearly feel that the developpers and you as well have put a part of themselves in the making of this masterpiece, this game have a soul and that's pretty rare these days, that's what make it so unique. I like the fact that we don't really know if Amicia is "dreaming" or not, it add more mystery, so the devs can still surprise us in the future because we still don't know too much about the macula, maybe this "dream" was the macula playing tricks on Amicia, maybe not. Also it's funny, for 2/3 seconds the voices at 24:12 reminded me of the voices in Assassin's creed 2 theme "Ezio's Family" by Jesper kyd, but slower, a beautiful compositions as well, i was clearly lost on my first playtrough 😄, i'm definetly gonna watch Akira even if anime are not really my thing, i got to give a chance to it 😉

18:20 While Charlotte deserves all the praise, do not forget the motion capture performance from Robyn Wolf. And the crafting of Amicia's CGI model that allowed to express all these emotions from Robyn rendered in realtime. Amicia is one of the rare CGI characters that feels real to the viewer. Which is a massive accomplishment, since even CGI characters in Hollywood movies created by massive render farms deal with the "uncanny valley" problem. The performances of Robyn and Charlotte with the Amicia CGI model as the medium perfectly melt together here to create a character on screen that feels absolutely real. The Amicia character is a benchmark other game productions have to meet now.

Its so weird to me, that it was never "hard" for me to kill hugo in terms of not wanting to do it. It was kinda clear to me that it's going to be inevitable, when its going to happen, because act 2 was so defintive on that. And i think, it was probably not as heartbreaking to me, because of the "it's all in her head " 20 minutes prior. its that odd thing when you expect something else to happen haha. like. Im a sucker for face-to-face moments, which this games bests character moments are, where the mocap really gets to shine, and instead of explaining everything to the player literally, you see it all in the acting, and emotions on their faces and the music. like after hugo gives himself to the macula the first time in chapter 12 for example... And personally i feel like that was missed here. There is all these great elements. The Music. the Voice acting.. the dialogue is so fucking good. so .. it just hits right.. but then we only get to see them from behind. and the gameplay face rigs dont come close to the mocapped face rigs. its like.. missing something. Shoutout to you all though. You know your writing is 12/10 when the actors have to stop recording, because its just too real. And i agree, Amicia getting to end Hugos suffering was the right choice. Like its such a powerful moment.

You know from other people what you guys in Asobo made, so im not going to repeat. But i want to talk about some specific things, which made this game special and are the reason why this game is above every other i seen. First thing first, the narative is very hard to understand. I know some streamers who didnt finish the game because of the lack of complex gameplay and overall (serious) interest from audience. And i think it should stay like this and only some people, who really want to know more should get it. Recently found a disccusion why Amicia and Hugo feel like they were on some places in the game before and the thing with Phoenix... And there is also 37 minutes long video about Plague Tale lore, but im afraid of watching it, because there wont be anything secret or to find out anymore... Next thing i like about narrative is how complex it is, but it is about the most basic things in your life, maybe this shows they are not that basic... This is first game, where narative is BELIEVABLE, maybe it even feels real. And it is because of 3 things- Motion capture, dialogs writing and voice acting. As you said, Charlotte gave evrything to it. I also found beautifull that Amicia didnt say single curse word for whole game. In bossfight with Count, i had a feeling she was close, but its great that you kept it like that. And considering your music- I think almost everyone including me had no clue of meaining of it, while playing the game, but whats more important, it brings EMOTINS. I think the best thing you did was putting chant from start of the game (lobby) to the end of the game. I knew what the chant is about, but you realize it again in "other way" here. That was the thing that made me cry more, than the sad ending itself. I love your dinamic music and i want to hear more of this in future. Dont be afraid of putting synth or other modern instruments in the medieval game, it works perfectly! You changed my view (not only) on music in games and not only that. You guys in France are the best.

This game is beyond, amazing everything was so incredibly beautiful especially the music I really enjoyed, it but sorry I have to say this the ending was horrible,Hugo didn't deserve this ending . In a total of more than 30 hours , including the first part , we try desperately to save Hugo , walk over dead bodies with him and offer him just 2 hours of complete peace , although this is exactly what would have given him and millions of people their lives . I understand that a happy ending is not always the solution , but it would have been appropriate here and now . I am really sad and deeply disappointed . However , the game is just great .

It’s definitely extremely disappointing and frankly disgusting that there’s this sort of romance being implied here between Lucas and Amicia. 1. He’s literally 12 and she’s 15-16, that sort of extreme gap is gross; so shipping and all is … almost predatory 2. Any romance that is seen in the game is a stretch; because it would appear that all affectionate interactions between the two are platonic and can be taken as such 3. It is disappointing to see a lot of female characters be attributed to romantic ideals when that diminishes the power in their singularity and them as their own person 4. Platonic relationships are just as heavy and important as romantic; in fact, one could attribute all their interactions as almost siblings especially considering he is Beatrice’s apprentice and an orphan. I love the work you do, it’s extremely moving and has impacted me for weeks; but this has been putting a damper on my whole experience and dimming it as well even simply because of the ugly nature of such an age gap.
@yeonjundani
@yeonjundani Год назад
Tbh a 3-year age gap is not big at all, considering the age gaps of couples these days and in the past, age gaps could be even bigger. It's not new. The writers/producers actually handled the romance pretty well in my opinion; the affection is mostly hinted at through actions, expressions and some words, which are not over-the-top. I do think such a relationship adds to the story and as Olivier said, Lucas represents hope and love to Amicia. That she has someone who is good and reliable, whom she can trust, which I think she really needs in the whole course of the game considering the arduous things she goes through.
@yeonjundani
@yeonjundani Год назад
For one thing is the romance lighten the atmosphere and playing experience. And to add on, romance does not make anyone look weak, just as someone strong can also be in a relationship.
