From the lute book of Sir Robert Gordon of Straloch (a very nice collection of scottish tunes for lute, around 1628) The source is lost, but we have a copy made by a scribe in the XIX century, with many errors, so we have to guess sometimes... This one is among my favorites ot this book.
Version 2 with Zoom H2.

I was just looking for videos of people playing the lute after I heard that Robert Barto had played at a recent Leo Kottke concert and found this! This is great! I really liked both your playing and the song! Keep them comin'! -Zack

Very impressive video! You sounded great! May I ask one thing though? Where does one get a lute? I want one so badly after seeing a few videos like yours, and I just don't know where to get one!

@spacemanGoldie Going from guitar to lute is not so difficult, right hand is a bit different, because lute is most often plyed without nais (because of double strings) and we have more strings on the lute. Tuning is more difficult with wooden pegs. For a start, try to look on the net for the lute society of your country, where you can find all infos about lutes, playing, teachers and so... Music is in tabs. Good luck ! Val

@synicman I don't know about prices of Barber compared to Murphy. But I know about quality... Barbers lutes are very good and beautiful. Murphy's ones are excellent. But i is just my personal opinion. Someone else advice may differs. Just try both and take your choice by yourself. ;-) V.

@Mr98giuliano Not very much, but most of the theorboes have single strings (so it is easier for the right hand, but some work to find the extra basses on the theorbo. Also the theorbo have less repertoire than the lute itself.

@spacemanGoldie I think Jan is playing a 7 or 8 course renaissance lute (what is needed to play Dowland for example) I play an 8 course (to have to extra basses for some English music).

Not so much, better to play double strings without nails, but you can with too... Left hand is the same, just right hand is more different (see my position) Regards Val

I came here because I'm reading poems for my English lit class, So far all I keep reading of beautiful music played with lutes and had to hear it for myself. Its very nice, and relaxing. Now i read "lute" poems to this song in the background.

Very moving indeed!!!tell me,is it a baroque or a renaissance lute the one you are playing?...i think it is the latter....i am newly exposed to the world of the lute... By the way i like your singning off ...it reflects prestige...
