I really liked what you said about ghosts, Steve.. "Kicking them up like dust and then you're breathing them in" Very true and neat way to describe it.

Hi Steve. We had 99.3% of totality here in Louisville KY and there really wasn't that much difference in sunlight. Maybe a little dimmer but there was still enough sunlight to throw shadows. Most notable was the drop in temperature. So the difference in a total eclipse from a small percentage less than total is the difference between night and day🙂.

Eckert is one of my favorite authors. His series of historical narratives are so engagingly written they propel you along. He usually has copious footnotes at the back of the book, often giving you exact modern locations where events occurred. In the past I have visited many of these spots ( at least the ones in Ohio and West Virginia ) just to gain a better appreciation of the geography of the location. I have a couple of his books in hardback ( "Dark and Bloody River", and "A Sorrow in the Heart ") but just about everything else in mass market paperbacks, every one of which is falling apart form multiple re-reads. You have motivated me to seek them out in hardback. Thanks for bringing up Eckert, he deserves to be widely read. Anyone with an interest in history would find them great reading.

10 percent of the Sun can still light us up like the Red Light District on a Sailors Pay Day. The total 90 percent coverage was noted by miss Frieda who jumped up out of Nowhere during the stream. Love these hauls.

My Scots grandma said that I had " the second sight" when I said about my Ghosts. Strange as we both areatheisrs, yet it definitely is a happy thing associated with place. I have never heard a better explanation. It seems a common feeling especially among Celts.

I've been reading Eckert's excellent Tecumseh biography. Growing up in Ohio, The Frontiersman carried a lot of mystique among Boomer age men who grew up in the 60s and 70s. I say that because it was recommended to me so many times - and I'd hear the story about the first time they read it!

My grandmother still has all of her mother’s Mary Roberts Rinehart mysteries in those smaller mass market paperbacks from the forties. I probably read every one, but so many other titles cloud my memory now. They remind me of warm summer nights and cold winter days. I recently found Golem 100 at a library sale store. No idea how long it’ll be before I get to it. 😺✌️

Thrilled that you were discussing Eckert! I love his writing and have that whole series (of course can't recall the name of the series either) Plus I have the Tecumseh book and the one about the history of the Ohio River Valley. The last one I want is the book about the Dayton Flood. His writing is engrossing. Have you noticed how the chapters have date entries? If I had time i's try to read the books in order of the date entries. That is a daunting endeavor! It's worth waiting for the HC's with dustjacket to show up, the artwork is lovely. You could do a whole video just on him. Happy Reading! Oh, and how fortunate to find that compendium of Mary Roberts Rineheart!

Mmm nice find, I snapped up a copy of that Best of CL Moore last year, lovely Buster Crabbe styled cover. In 2019 Gollancz released four Golden Age Masterworks of her fantasy and science fiction work, and I'm grateful they did, great books. I'd like your sword & sorcery book but alas I'm an ocean away, ah well, fantastic atmospheric cover.

Here in Charlotte NC we had 82% coverage and the light barely dimmed. I have been through several partial eclipses with their weird light and this one seemed like it never happened.

You're supposed to put the glasses on to see he eclipse. Once you put the black glasses on, the sun is blocked out and everything goes dark.

I’d love to take that extra Flashing Swords off your hands! I adore sword and sorcery, and write it myself. I’ll email you my (full) address in case it’s still up for grabs.

I was in the 90% path and it didn't get very dim here either. Today was heavy rain clouds and it was twice as dark. I am slightly jealous of those who experienced the total eclipse.

The Sun was 96% eclipsed where I live and there was no difference in the amount of daylight.

Steve i wish i had you problem with getting too much books, even though you consume them, i have that with food. About the Ghosts, i'm your age.. 28, my nanny who then became family always accompanied me out even in my adult age, passed two years ago and now their "ghost" is with me whenever i step out the house especially when i'm ramaging through books and i mean to turn to them to crack a joke .
