I do think they should have, instead of nerf the damage from the second hit on, remove the chance of triggering effects with the second hit. Though we won't have much issues, as I doubt they'll ever bring back megas to a PvP-enabled Pokémon game (main series, the generational ones, call it whatever you want). PS.: Showdown, the idea is free, if you ever think on making an incidental change for that.
Everybody pre-gen 6 was like "ooooh wouldnt it be cool if kangaskhan got an evo" quickly changed their minds when they realised how powerful child labour was.
its such a baffling choice esp with gdarm's stat spread. mons like that are already great without the ability, with a 1.5x attack boost it just becomes too much
Drizzle and Drought in Gen 5 gave a free 1.5x boost to STAB for most of your team, reduced the damage of moves you most likely wouldn't run, synergized with Abilities that _doubled_ a mon's Speed, and still stacked with items. And those Abilities were given to _Politoed and Ninetales_ out of all mons, eventually being given to more mons down the line. The only reason why those Abilities and Sand Stream (and not Snow Warning, sorry Abomasnow) aren't banned to Ubers in that gen is because they are all simultaneously broken and step on each other's feet. Bring a non-weather team? Then you're pretty much dead. Gen 5 also brought along "You would take indirect damage from any source? No you wouldn't," "You would take 4x damage from your hard counter in Ice and be OHKO'd from full? No you wouldn't," and the insta-sweep ender in Imposter. Not trying to argue that modern Abilities aren't braindead, but Gen 5 was pretty much the start of more braindead-esque Abilities becoming commonplace, and Moxie was _far_ from the most broken Gen 5 ability.
@@christiancinnabars1402 Worth noting that Groudon and Kyogre had lower BSTs than Ho-oh and Lugia (or Mewtwo, for that matter), but are generally considered better than any of them.
Fun Fact, Kommo-o's Clangorous Soul is classified as a Dancing move, meaning Oricorio can use the move when a Partner Kommo-o does and use Roost after to heal or go for its own Quiver Dance to get +2 SpAtk, SpDef, and Speed with +1 Atk and Def in a single turn.
@@christo_unlimited I mean, it would be very situational, would require two specific Pokémon (Komo-o would also need to be a good Pokemon on it's own and not just a Tera reliant Flutter Mane counter) on the field with no way of protecting each other that are very easy to disrupt. I really don't think it would be very broken, way too much counter play to it
*252 Atk Choice Band Gorilla Tactics Slaking Double-Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Dondozo: 337-397 (66.8 - 78.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO* Deviously rubbing my hands together waiting for that day.
Dancer is one of those abilities that seems like it should really obliviously be on more Pokémon, like Ludicolo, the danciest Pokémon of them all. And to a lesser extent, bellossom, liligant, and Quaquaval, Pokémon that all thematically center on dancing and two of them have signature dancing moves.
My crack at fixing Parental Bond: The power split is now 25%:75% for the baby and mom respectively. No increase in power at all but still very useful for breaking sash, Sturdy, etc. Then make it so only the Mom's attack can activate secondary effects; no more busted PuP. Finally, i'd have the baby attack first. That's actually a buff because often times that's just enough to break a sub and the more substantial second hit actually strikes the target. Oh and ofc we'd need to have Seismic Toss and the like have their damage split properly.
@ThisIsntARU-vidr Look I don't agree with the other guy but, I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion when the guy literally said the suggested change would only apply the secondary effect once "only the Mom's attack can activate secondary effects"
cramorant was also banned in a lot of unofficial tournaments for a while due to an invincibility bug that was active for a bit where cram couldnt take any damage under some circumstances
Not only do I enjoy the competitive Pokémon content and perfectly balanced humour, but it just really means a lot to me to see a content creator from this particular fanbase to be drawing attention to Palestine. Thank you for everything you do.
@@tylerbarrios9762 I think a leftovers ability is something I'd 100% love to see tbh. Honestly it feels something they would've given a Pokemon like Greedant tbh, like it stockpiles a ton of berries so it just gets some health back each turn from snacking like leftovers.
Not only did they nerf parental bond going from gen 6 to 7, they also removed power up punch from its learnset in gen 7, meaning you couldn’t use power up punch mega kang in VGC
It would be cool to talk about the notably well-balanced recent gimmick pokemon, where they clearly put in thought to balance things when they designed stuff, like Tinkaton and its stat spread, relative to its signature move. Or how Indeedee is great but not another Lele in its prime. It doesn't mean they're all OU viable, but they're also not broken or garbage. It pleases me so much when you look at a mon, question their stat spread or a mechanic about their ability, and the it feels so right
Dancer would be crazy anyway, but somehow every single dance move is fucking jacked to the tits, its insane, its the most consistent pokemon has ever been.
Parental bond may be broken, but it's adorable. The little kid joins in with her mom, how is that not adorable? I even love the gif, with the baby trying to size up the opponent, but she starts falling over and Kangaskhan keeps her from falling over. I'm glad it exists, competitive be damned!
I think I'm the only one who used zen mode garmanitan before it got banned. Watching zen mode of all things turn it into todoroki and rampaging across all who stood in my way was a blissful journey.
Zen Mode Galarian Darmanitan with Z-Belly Drum and an even HP Stat is so fun since it doesn't need to survive a Hit to enter Zen Mode, plus if it's slower than the Opponent it gets healed from any Damage it took thanks to Z-Belly Drum, and likely outspeeds it by the next Turn thanks to it's busted Stats in Zen, allowing it to sweep since almost no Pokemon resists all of it's 3 possible attacking Moves' Types.
I watched a randomized abilities battle and one person had an eviolite max bulk chansey with parental bond, it swept with the doubled seismic toss. Truly a disgusting combo
salazzle's ability allowing it to poison steel and poison types is really cool. I don't remember anyone using salazzle, but I put one on my single-player team as soon as I heard about the ability lol
The chance for one Body Slam paralysis trigger with Parental Bond is 42%, but since you're rolling twice and could feasibly get two positive results, the percentage is 51%
With Megas seemingly coming back and the otherworldly power creep we saw in Gen 9, I have no doubt we’re gonna see some absurd new abilities come out of it.
What I really want to see is more Pokémon with contrary, maybe even with topsy-turvy as part of their moveset as well as well. Definitely my favorite ability and one of my favorite moves.
why can cramorant paralyse an enemy attacking it with a special attack!!!!!????? (i definitely didn't lose a random battles match to this what are you talking about)
can’t wait for Eviolite and Choice Specs/ Choice Scarf and also Power Herb but as abilities to be added!1!1!1!1!!!! Then the Pokémon that have these abilities can gladly find its spot at Ubers (450+ BST)/OU (450- BST)!!!!!! Also here are the list of abilities that act as similar items: Opportunist (Mirror Herb)/ Clear Body (Clear Amulet)/ Gorilla Tactics (Choice Band)/ Emergency Exit (kinda like Eject Button)/ Steadfast (Adrenaline Orb) / Sturdy (Focus Sash)/ Insomnia (Chesto Berry but can’t use Rest)/ Quick Draw (Quick Claw)/ Super Luck (Scope Lens)/ Natural Cure (Lum Berry)
Stonjourner's power spot but it removes the need for moves to charge like sky attack or focus punch. Even crazier would be the removal of recharging after using hyperbeam and such. 💀
I play in text based pokemon FFA games called EIPPs and some time ago in one of them we had 3 oricorios. They were absolutely terrifying. They teamed up, quiver danced, triggering each others dancer, and were able to kill everything with revelation dance because it would always hit at least thrice, especially if you considered the fact that if they agreed to it they could use quiver dance 9 times in a turn. Same for revelation dance. You get it. That was a very scary eipp. Luckily they died out after a few turns because the other ~95ish players did NOT like the Dancer horrors. Truly an ability of all time
Honestly I think parental bond is pretty cool, it's just a pity that mega kang was in that awkward position of too strong in vgc and OU, but not strong enough to really make an impact in ubers. it was maybe kinda usable in XY with a wish protect seismic toss set lol but that was about it. One of those ones where the problem is the mon they give it to rather than the idea itself.
Could you please make videos on all of the other fulky evolved starter pokemons that you haven't done yet and all of the legendary and mythical pokemons you haven’t done, including Arceus?
Isn't the entire point of abilities to break the rules? I mean yea, these are examples of some unique abilities only seen on a particular mon. But you could easily make a follow up video on this topic about widespread abilities, like Levitate, Prankster, Defiant/Competitive etc.
Probably because it was only available through transfer in gens 6 & 7 to my knowledge so the move and ability combo wasn't allowed in VGC where the mon was most infamous
i, for one, welcome more busted abilities being given to birds (they tried with toxic chain but fezandipiti got the worst hand imaginable though) also gen 7 parental bond is actually 25% but yeah it's still too much
I guess they wanted to make its stats crappy because it learns multi-hit moves? A 5-hit Tail Slap is practically a guaranteed Toxic Chain trigger but almost nobody's going to run it
Honestly if you were to just remove secondary effects from the second hit, or just remove secondary effects all together, and then keep the 25% damage increase it would probably be fine. It wouldn’t be any better than existing abilities like tough claws or sheer force
Here I was expecting more "let me on the field already!!!!" stuff that bypasses obvious checks like corrosion, fields, mind's eye, and good as gold. But I guess those were done to death at various other points.
Im sad they gave Gorilla Tactics to G-Darmanitan because on 1 hand Holy Bingle Finally A Functional Offensive Ice-type but on the other Funny Fire Snowman
I feel sad when stuff gets merged regardless of my personal attachment to a Pokémon or its strength, but I feel like PB makes less sense at 25 than 50. They could’ve done some coding magic to make it so the second hit doesn’t trigger secondary effects or something which would be more interesting while keeping the core strength of the mega there
Bro its so cool seeing people mirror your power point style of video but for other games. I saw another one but for brawl stars and they credited you for the idea. The videos name was called like “a powerpoint about shelly” you should check it out its crazy how your style of video has had influence on other types of games
gen 3 gave azu huge power and medicham pure power, which are both just guerrilla tactics without the drawback. the busted part isn’t the ability, it’s the pokémon the ability’s on.
I really liked belly drum Zen Mode Garmanitan, and was sorry to see it banished to Ubers with its choice banded brother. I thought it was fun how the alternative form version of zen mode was extremely not zen, and Ice/Fire typing had me googling the type effectiveness chart because wtf is that typing, so silly.
I guarantee you they’ll add some nonsense like Heavy Duty Boots+Sheer Force as an ability next gen, GF can’t help themselves. Mark my words, you’ll all call me a heretic, but you’ll see, you’ll ALL SEE
Gen 10 Hyper Rayquaza with 210/255/210/255/210/255 stat distribution and "Fuck You" which grants it immunity to all status, crits, grants the user Hugest Power (new ability that makes your attack infinite), and also gives it unaware, magic guard, Ice Scales, Fluffy and Mold Breaker
I still want Parental Bond back on basic Kanga. Her stats are nowhere near as good as Mega Kanga, and with moves being per game GF can make sure she doesn’t get Power-Up Punch or Seismic Toss any more. With Gen 9 power creep I think it’d be alright. Also really hope Legends ZA has abilities, at least for their Megas. So many like Kanga, Gengar, and Pinsir were defined by their abilities.
I am not sure what you mean by "breaking the rules". based on your video it can be argued that all abilities that activate when the opponent is making contact with you are "breaking the rules" even if the abilities themselves are considered balanced and even underpowered. also it can be argued that shedinja's ability wonder guard is "breaking the rules" since there is not a single neutral hit you can land on this thing. and lets not forget ursifu's unseen fist which was designed to ignore protect.
All of these (asides from gorilla tactics to be fair) break how many moves you can use in a turn, and then gulp missile is a new mechanic that auto paras on hit which is a completely unique thing from any mechanic. I chose these instead of Unseen Fist because I already have an Urshifu video, would seem too easy to me.
@@ElectricWindGirlFriend okay but the abilities that I mentioned can also be seen as doing aditional moves. rough skin is basically a damage dealing attack with a percentage-based damage. static is basically thunderwave.
Galarian Darmanitan is the funniest pokemon to exist, like why is it built like that. If you thought Zen Mode on the OG Darm was actually really underwhelming, you haven't even seen Galarmanitan's Zen Mode. Same speed tier at 135 as Flutter Mane and Chien Pao, 160 base Atk in the same tier as Hero Palafin and Regigigas, and Belly Drum puts it into exact trigger range
Surprised Serene Grace wasn't there. Doubling the flinch status and paralyze chance makes fighting some mons a complete coin flip. You haven't felt true fear until half your team is paralyzed against a iron head Jirrachi or Air Slash Togekiss. Like sure, heatran is an amazing answer to Jirrachi... Unless it gets paralyzed on switch in or flinched to death. Like I'm pretty sure Kings Rock was banned because of skill link pokemon.... Which still have lower chance to flinch on attacks.
people complaining about gorilla tactics like a base 95 speed physical mono ice type with poor defenses was ever going to accomplish anything without it
Everytime I had to deal with this Dancer Shit in Gen7OU I got a Ban on Showdown afterwards. Was worth it everytime. You csn't let those assholes run unharmed when they bring such crappy things.
