What a spectacular country Turkey has been . from the beautiful coastal ares to the mts . all the historic buildings and history of the people that have lived there . Is for sure a country I will over land to some day . You two have really shown the areas and people to such a great and enjoyable part of the world . All I can say is wow what a beautiful video and countryside . Thanks again for sharing your wonderful travel memories with us all your over landing friends . Love that Greek theatre - obviously the front and all decorations have been robbed from it probably more than 1500 years ago. Interesting construction - the rear wall is stone blocks. Under the seats it is just rock fill. I'm surprised the stone for the seats was not robbed out as well.
Absolutely love the content, the music and the editing is phenomenal guys. However, I think documenting more interaction with the locals (specially in the more remote villages) would make your trip more memorable and your videos more interesting for your audience.
Thanks Arif, That’s a fair point, one we’ve discussed at length, and resultantly why we still make the episodes the way they are and concentrate on the landscapes. The reason we have chosen not to include those interactions is we don’t feel comfortable arriving into small remote villages, some which predominately don’t see foreigners, in a big car (especially when they may own next to nothing themselves), and wielding a camera around potentially provoking a sense of superiority. There has been times when we’ve thought it might be ok, requested to, and then told no. We know that if someone did that where we live we’d be put off, and in some of the remote places we go the last thing we want to do is create hostility. Sure, some travel shows do it though they’re people with different agendas, motivations, and just not us. We also feel the camera can sometimes taint an experience and as taking the videos or photos wasn’t the primary goal of our trip, we’d prefer to have real interactions without the distraction. We can understand how this would be more engaging for the viewer though one thing we’ve tried to maintain over the course of documenting our travel is to only do what we feel comfortable doing and reflect the things we enjoy. For us, we have those memories of the interactions, some of which are pretty interesting so perhaps we’ll write a book about them one day. Thanks for the suggestion though, if in the future there is a time we feel it’s ok, we’ll still ask, though for the interim we hope you can enjoy the landscapes. Cheers
Jolie, when you mention snippets of history/info , is that from a guide book, like lonely planet? They’re so useful and interesting. This was a fabulous episode. We’re just about to drive from the UK to Malta, via Sicily. We’re in our D5 but we’ll be staying in Agritourismos! I know, we should be roughing it but we’re too old ha! Our first driving adventure of 5 weeks. We’ll be driving the Italian coastline, so hope to see some similar spectacular views to you.
Thanks Jacqueline, it's from a mix of different media, all thrown together. It's a bit hard finding info on some of the places we visit so we generally have to stitch stuff together. All the best with your travels! The coast line in Italy is incredible so no doubt you'll find some great views.
We thought about it, though we carry 2 spares so it wasn’t pressing. As the terrain we would be covering for the rest of the trip was quite tame and the opportunity to get another increased exponentially the further west we went we were confident to run with what we had.
Yeah, we thought our searching of Google maps had paid off and we'd found another little secret beach like we did with the previous one. Then a German couple turned up in a van just as we were leaving, turns out its pinned on an app! Nevertheless we had the place to ourselves. Sure did, coming up in the next episode. 🙂
Hi Guys, this leg of the tour appears to be throwing fantastic vistas which are as gorgeous as the stans, if not quite as dramatic as the really mountainous areas, the hot air ballons in the last episode were epic, and the beach in this one is a real find. Keep em coming!!
Cheers Gordon, yeah we were blown away by the landscape in Turkey. The Stan countries for us were some of our favourites as they had a lot to offer - landscapes, culture, history, and food. Turkey definitely also met all of that, with the added bonus of amazing beaches!

Cheers Mike, the video description paints a pretty good picture of the process. Essentially, this one was off Google maps which use to trawl the coastlines looking for tracks, we also use iOverlander though try not to as we prefer to find our own.
Thanks, we were initially, though you reach a point where you either never leave it and don't get to see much, or attempt to mitigate the risks and have a bit of faith in people. As a precaution we lock all our valuables in a safe and the Troopys got a special start sequence. There's bad people everywhere in the world though so if it's going to happen it's going to happen. Thankfully we've been lucky to date.
United Nations has just announced that Turkey having submitted the relevant paperwork is to be spelt Turkiye and pronounced as in Turkey. It is an English language thing to follow these guidelines, but the French, Germans, Italians continue to use their many centuries old names for these countries.
Absolutely breathtaking to be able to get so intimate with those Greek ruins. Insane. Also the gall of that drone pilot trying to get a sneaky shot of Jolie's butt. ;)
Yeah there's plenty of ruins in Turkey though a lot are commercialised or on the tourist route, we were pretty happy to able to find these ones as is and explore them ourselves. I'll have to keep an eye on that pilot 👀
